Bernie Sanders is a Democratic candidate for President of the United States. He is serving his second term in the U.S. Senate after winning re-election in 2012 with 71 percent of the vote. Sanders previously served as mayor of Vermont’s largest city for eight years before defeating an incumbent Republican to be the sole congressperson for the state in the U.S. House of Representatives. He lives in Burlington, Vermont with his wife Jane and has four children and seven grandchildren.
Bernard “Bernie” Sanders was born in Brooklyn, New York, to immigrant parents and grew up in a small, rent-controlled apartment. His father came to the United States from Poland at the age of 17 without much money or a formal education. While attending the University of Chicago, a 20-year-old Sanders led students in a multi-week sit-in to oppose segregation in off-campus housing owned by the university as a Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) officer. In August of 1963, Sanders took an overnight bus as an organizer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee to hear Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech firsthand at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
After graduation, Bernie moved to Vermont where he worked as a carpenter and documentary filmmaker. In 1981, he was elected as mayor of Burlington as an Independent by a mere 10 votes, shocking the city’s political establishment by defeating a six-term, local machine mayor. In 1983, Bernie was re-elected by a 21 point margin with a record amount of voter turnout. Under his administration, the city made major strides in affordable housing, progressive taxation, environmental protection, child care, women’s rights, youth programs and the arts. In 1990, Sanders was elected to the House of Representatives as the first Independent in 40 years and joined the Democratic caucus. He was re-elected for eight terms, during which he voted against the deregulation of Wall Street, the Patriot Act, and the invasion of Iraq.
In 2006, Sanders defeated the richest man in Vermont to win a seat in the U.S. Senate as an Independent. Known as a “practical and successful legislator,” Sanders served as chairman of the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs where he authored and passed the most significant veteran health care reform bill in recent history. While in the Senate, Sanders has fought tirelessly for working class Americans against the influence of big money in politics. In 2010, he gave an eight-and-a-half hour filibuster-like speech on the Senate floor in opposition to extending Bush-era tax breaks for the wealthy. In 2015, the Democratic leadership tapped Bernie to serve as the caucus’ ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee.
Known for his consistency on the issues, Senator Sanders has supported the working class, women, communities of color, and the LGBT community throughout his career. He is an advocate for the environment, unions, and immigrants. He voted against Keystone XL, opposes the Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, wants to expand the Voting Rights Act, and pass the Equal Rights Amendment.

By and large we truly are kind ethical people. Just like people everywhere are if you give them the chance. I firmly believe that Bernie will win because for the first time in my life a person of normal ethics is actually an option. As many Europeans point out in comments on Bernie videos. His political positions are actually fairly conservative in the context of the rest of the developed world. Bernie is only special in the sense that somehow he's managed to maintain a career in politics without being corrupted or removed. His positions are globally speaking middle of the road type stuff. Common sense. Only in the American privately owned media oligopoly echo chamber is he considered an extremest of some sort. I would like to mention that over 60% of Americans don't vote at all because we are sick of being given false choices. Most of us have over the past decades resigned ourselves to living in an oligarchy. But we've always been ready to do our part to make our country a more ethical force both at home and abroad. Bernie is the first real chance we've had to do that in my adult life. I think you'll find that you have every reason to believe that we can and will, both do and be, better. There are a lot of people with large amounts of assets whom give away much of their wealth, you can't take it with you, optimal health is true wealth in many people's opinions as well. It's really unthinkable to me that people think it's okay to take what other people have just because it's not their income and because the government is doing it. They invest it or have it in a bank account. If it's invested, businesses use it to expand which means they hire new people. Even if it was being hoarded, when you give the government the right to take income away from people in such ridiculous levels as Bernie is talking, you give them the right to do it to you as well. There were some liberal democrats who wanted to allow the U.N. to tax all Americans who earned anything at all because they wanted it to go to poor people in other countries. It won't end until we are taxed into being a third world nation. We are supposed to have the freedom of choice to decide how the money we work for is spent. It is so wrong that WE work for the money and then not only do we not get to keep it, the federal government spends it however they want. Our time, our lives spend earning it and it goes to someone else - making us slaves. It's wrong. Why are democrats ONLY pro-choice when it comes to abortion? Not on whether or not I have healthcare - I have no choice. Guns? They want to take that choice as well. Choice over what I do with my own money, they want to take as much of that away as well. It's a sad state of affairs. What has made this country great - freedom - is being systematically eliminated and Bernie is the poster child for that.

I'm voting for this guy. However, when it comes to education he has much work to do. My 16 year old son is dyslexic and boarder line dysgraphic. He was abused by the school district he was in for years. He took up an art form called Parkour and we moved him to another district. Since then he has improved greatly. He is acing science, math, and other subjects. He is also volunteering at local botanical gardens and may do the same at a local college 1 night a month working along side students and professors in science departments including learning how to operate the astronomy observatory and thus aiding others to learn about the heavens before he even goes to college. Dyslexics are typically innovative like that. I think that both parties are responsible for the lack of knowledge and effort in dealing with these issues. Currently there are 2 Dems and 2 Reps trying to fund $$$ into research to help teachers work better with dyslexic kids. I do not want any kid going through what my son went through and neither does he. Democrats like Warren are too concerned with teachers unions who tend to always try to get teachers to do less. Extra work to help these kids inclusive. She voted the last bill down to help these kids. Republicans in general like Ben (Let Jesus handle every thing) Carson just wants to call these kids unlucky. If we want the country to be strong then we MUST view education as a top priority. All kids, including dyslexics can become valuable assets in our society if given peer reviewed help. If it means giving educators more $$$ to learn and help these kids that's fine. But, having the money is one thing. Doing the job is another. We need to take the nepotism and politics out of school administations and not keep blaming teachers. Are you listening supporters of Chris Christie? Many educators want to help but many local administators are in the way because they are either lazy or are only in charge because of who they know. Denmark has this kind of thing already figured out. They have been dealing with dyslexia successfully for a number of years now. Bernie can't do it alone. Replace the nepotism with common sense based on peer reviewed science.

Lucas Rodrigues  i actually have many friend here, and among them is richard dawkins, i am also a member of 2 prestigious atheist gathering, ACA Atheist Community of Austin maybe you ever heard of them? they host the atheist experience show, i also consider matt dillahunty as my friend, and the other is recovering from religion, a group that specifically made for an ex member of christian clergy or still a member of clergy but they are secretly atheist, like i am, i actually is still a pentacostal priest i never renounce my priesthood, me and my family is one of those who make an underground christian movement in china when religion was still banned, in the "recovering from religion foundation" is where i meet dawkins and we have been somewhat an email buddy. economically i think i can be consider as rich, i have 2 phd one is in theology and the other in physic, i lost my faith in my late 20s so i need to find other way to make a living and since i love science i thought why i dont i study physic, so i was a freshmen in my late 20s and graduated in mid 30s, i was already an old man when i can call my self a scientist, but i dont regret it, it give me an opportunity to work in jobs that i actually like, so now that i no longer work full time in church anymore, i take a job in quang chou radar industry, and they send me to US since this country have the most airfield in the world, so murica is practically my company biggest client, thats why im stuck here, but i make more than 1000$ US per day and almost half million per year, so money is not a problem for me the things that i hate about being in murica is not that i dont have friend or money, far from it, the problem is i lived in constant fear for my live, you probably wont believe me, but its the truth, people in austin walk around carrying full automatic assault riffle, one time i actually see a harley davidson is custom equip with a gatling gun A FREAKING GATLING GUN, my friend in china dont believe me when i say people here have a bible in one hand and an assault riffle on the other hand but i swear its real, they even go to KFC fully arms to the teeth, complete 2 side arms in each pocket, a shotgun in their back and assault riffle hanging in their chest and a hand carrying sub machine gun and this is JUST ONE PERSON, are they planing to go to war? just to buy a fried chicken? I firmly believe if i stay much longer here the probability of me getting a stray bullet is pretty high, although im in my late 40, i still want to live longer dammit
