Not “one of,” to most jazz aficionados. THE Greatest. Sassy! The Divine One! We love you, Sarah. ♥️ ☮️ 🙏🏼 ✌🏽. So glad you younger generations can appreciate the sheer wonder of her once-in-many-lifetimes Voice. Keep up the Good Listening to Sassy - She left us 48 unmatched albums and 89 CLASSIC singles! - Cheers from Newark, NJ ( Sarah’s hometown). 😊 ❤

Her vibrato is more of a vibrato/tremalo mix, half-pitch, half-volume. It's something you hear sometimes in horns and saxophones, but not the human voice. She was next level.

She truly was "The Divine One". One of the most important jazz singers in music history. Her magnificent standards are "Make Yourself Comfortable" "It's Magic" "Just a Little Lovin'" "Black Coffee" and soooo many Funny random fact: she once said "I'm not a jazz singer"😅

She’s an absolute goddess. I’ve been in love with her for nearly 40 years. One of, if not THE greatest vocalist of the 20th century…Ella Fitzgerald thought she was the best too…I think it was Miles Davis who said “she did things with her voice that trumpet players wouldn’t dare try”…Sarah, Billie, Ella, Nina and Leontyne Price (if you don’t know Leontyne, you’re in for a treat….she practically owned the role of Aida…a very great artist and great lady) were (and still are) my idols…they taught me what great artistry was. Listen to Sarah’s “Over the rainbow”…she elevates it beyond measure. Thanks for your posts, I really enjoy watching your reactions. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Sarah, Billie, Nat, Ella, and Frank were representative of a time when the lyric ruled and those that interpreted that lyric where its Kings and Queens. It was a time when every syllable was important, each word was clearly pronounced. When these Kings and Queens respected the composer, the music and their audience. Their job was to tell the story as they saw it and convey that story to the audience. Each of these people of royalty did it their own way, but none of them ever talked down or dressed down to the listener. It was a music made for and sung to adults. Sarah's strengths were her incredible timbre, range, ease of delivery, interpretive abilities and personability. Ella, Nat, Billie and Frank each had their own style, strengths and personalities, but each made it seem as if they were singing directly to you. For contrast of styles, try Johnny Mathis doing this same song.

Sarah Vaughan's vibrato...was one of the wonders of the modern world. It is as you say all about control--pitch, timbre, rhythm, dynamics--it does what she wants it to do, and what she wants is unerringly gorgeous music. Also, before she became (altogether justifiably) "The Divine One," she was simply "Sassy," and you get a lot of that here--this great Erroll Garner tune always brought out her playful side. Thank you so much for this reaction!

"Sassy " made the Erroll Garner classic just as beautiful as Erroll did on the piano and gives Johnny Mathis a run for his money. She one of the big four ( Ella, Carmen, Della) in my opinion in the jazz world.

If you listen to "Dedicated to You" ,a duet with the incredible Billy Eckstine, you'll think you died & went to heaven! For her operatic side, "My Man's Gone Now" from "Porgy and Bess" kills. For her jazz side, "Key Largo" just carries you away. She's truly one of a kind.🎶🎼🎵🎤🌟🌟🌟🌟

Thanks for reacting to Sarah Vaughn. What an incredible performance! Matchless. She was so charismatic and humble. She shared that she was nervous with the audience because she developed a cold on the day she was being recorded and televised. She was known for her VOICE and to have a cold was going to limit her vocally. Sarah Vaughn was one of the greatest vocalist of all time! They called her the "Divine Sarah" and 'Sassy". Her voice was like an instrument. She was a vocal stylist and painter of words. She had an incredible tone, articulation, and vibrato. The resonance! She was well celebrated in her day. However, there was such racism and colorism, she did not receive as much television airtime and opportunities commercially as others such as Ella Fitzgerald the Queen of Scat and Lena Horne who were lighter in complexion. Sarah Vaughn also scatted. She was well received overseas. She was loved here as well. Just an incredible God-given gift and she mastered her craft! It's too bad she isn't as celebrated and recognized today. She is not well known outside of Jazz circles. She's up in the top 20 voices and vocalist of all time, maybe the top 10. This is just pure vocals without mastering and auto-tuning. What a voice and what a wonderful person! Thanks again for your reaction

I appreciate this video - I'd truly like it better if the videographer wouldn't keep interrupting the song with his comments and await the songs ending. Our younger generation unfortunately is far too unaware of our African American singers from the Golden Age of performers; not to mention our rich vocal and musical history. Pronunciation is indeed: Vaughan, (Vahn) silent g in both spellings, with and without the a.

When you listen to Sarah Vaughan, you get the WHOLE musical treatment, she sings the scales of the piano from low to high and back to low in an instant. This kind of musical experiment you just don't hear anymore in today's music scene. The ladies from yesteryear, you hear their voices in all its glory and as it were. Nowadays it's all beats and studio wizardry. Really sad today's music is not so much music but a bunch of crap
