Sarah Vaughn is a class act. She sings this wonderful track with ease. So many great female jazz vocalists from the past ( I'm 53 ) I'm discovering . So much fun!

I caught Sarah Vaughan on a Friday evening in the early 80s at an LA supper club performing with Count Basie & his Orchestra 'An indelible gooseflesh evening to say the least

What is September but a nostalgic reverie? The rain, a gentle mist, on the sidewalks - acorn crowns, leaves falling gently -- a harbinger of autumn joys to come. We tread more softly, we wear new or treasured sweaters to warm us from the new chill in the air, hands in pockets, senses taking in all of the muted beauty like a sharp but joyful intake of air. THAT is September. (PS -- Sarah Vaughn's mellifluous melodious voice charmed me from the age of 2 - a moment I will never forget.)

A very appropriate song for September in Guatemala City. This month is perhaps the rainiest over here. Some of the leaves of the trees tumble down this month and some others next month. I like this song which is very nice and good to hear.

After once through the tune, she goes to the bridge, catching both bassist Davis and pianist Bright unawares, as they hit an Ab expecting to go back to the top of the tune (1:24). I have no idea what they agreed to beforehand. It's fine, they handle it like the pros they are. I'll leave the adulation to others, but I'm totally with 'em, it just doesn't get any better than Sarah Vaughan.

in the same show she seems to sing ABA a lot, could have been her mistake. But if she's wrong, I don't wanna be right, baby.

Spot on! Just look at Richard Davis' response when she goes straight to the bridge..."wait a minute"! ...checking the pianist..then once he has "caught up"..he is laughing, almost hiding behind his bass...perhaps Sarah was testing them..or playing a practical joke

Here Sarah did not take her voice into the deep lows that became her more mature singing style. She sang in a beautiful high vocal range in the 1950s,

Did anyone else hear that Sarah went to the bridge, but the band was prepared to go back to the top based on the turnaround they played? The bassist shoots a smirk at the piano player right after.

in wino veritas ... I believe this was a Neumann "bottle" mic with the long extension capsule. A very high quality tube condenser. The long neck allowed the bulky body of the mic to be out of the frame. See the old quiz show Twenty-One.
