I have know several people who lived exactly like Sarah. They were all very independent, resilient, mindful, wise and witty. I hope she managed to live out her days as she wished and not as bureaucrats and do-gooders would have liked her to do. She was content and not like so many today who are unsettled and in pursuit of filling a void in their souls with things and so called success.

I'd love to think that Sarah was still here among us, but sadly, probably not. What a marvellous strong woman of a generation that is fast vanishing now, death by death, and we see first hand how softness and weakness weakens the world as a whole and does it, and us, no favours. Women like this didn't have time for making trouble. They were too busy surviving and keeping family together and fed. Bless you Sarah and I'm so glad I had a chance to see this, to remind me that people like you did exist, and that a few still do.

I was there to ask if she would rent me the property next door to me ( a disused garage) for my joinery business. She was lovely and very wise i remember, agreed to it and gave me some great advice. " A commode is a wonderful thing" We had to pull out of the house and stay where we wefe as we already had a bungalow. Sue couldn't walk at all , let alone upstairs. It would have been good to be her neighbour.

Hard working, grateful for their home and food on the table, my family are from S Ireland , my mother often told me of the hardship faced by her family in the 30s… a hard life indeed, she moved to work in Scotland in the 59s, she and the women of her family in Scotland worked ti send money home to support the farm. My mother said she loved Britain, Britain gave her chances of work and training she would never have had in Southern Ireland. She qualified as a nurse taking 2nd best Nursing student in Scotland, she was soo proud of that.
