Loved the little nod to the flashlight mechanic with Ellie having to shake it when it would start blinking out. And yeah, them playing Take On Me in the mall is gonna make "that scene" in season 2 hit even harder. Also thought it was a cool touch to play a Muzak version of Just Like Heaven on the merry-go-round; hearing the words in my head and the look on Bella's face in the scene put a big ol' goofy smile on my face. And that shot from behind Ellie & Riley just standing in front of the arcade was so good to me. I love the care they take with each scene in this show. On that same note, I send friends who haven't played the game to your reactions to see how scenes were adapted from the game, so thanks for the extra effort! Dope Horizon hoodie, btw!

Hi, Ellie actually did get quite mad and angry at Riley in the DLC and still was until they started the water gun fight. Of course, for the show, they changed it a little bit 🙂

@@SnaxanGaming yeah, they made her a bit rougher and angrier for the show, it's also all her swearing. I guess it's to show the sh.t you have to go through in this world.

@@UltraHD.7 She had a potty mouth in the games as well, that's not really unique to the show. I'd say game Ellie was written a bit more like an adult and a little depressed & quiet while show Ellie is a little more like an actual teen, at least in the beginning within the QZ. You can see more of a change throughout the series while game Ellie stayed mostly the same until Part 2 came out, or rather even the DLC, which I think already showed a different type of Ellie. Overall I think the show does the character development & progression a bit better. I just wish they wouldn't condense things so much but they're obviously on a budget and time constraint for the show.

*SPOILERS WARNING FOR THE LEFT BEHIND DLC* I didn't think David would be in this episode. It would have been way too soon for that. In the main game it's obvious that time had past between Joel getting hurt to when we first see him recuperating in the house basement. The dlc takes place after Ellie gets Joel to that house where she goes on her quest to find a first aid kit which she finds. Now the stage is set for this David story arc.

If I remember correctly the DLC takes place way before they get to the house, very shortly after Joel got hurt.

@Etticos part of the DLC does. The LUE and Riley part rakes place well before but the DLC also has elements where she us scavenging a mall for a first aid kit for Joel. That is because he is injured. The dlc goes back and forth in time. But in the main game time has progressed since Joel got hurt but not by much. When we see Joel in the main game Ellie already has Joel stitched up but needs penicillin. That's where David comes into play.

@Etticos but you might be right. It definately took place right after he got hurt. Now that I think about it Ellie might of had Joel in that mall locked behind a metal garage type of door. So they were not at the house yet. But them arriving at the house probably wasn't long after. His wounds were still not healed but they were in winter with the house scene. I think their was snow at the helicopter crash site at the mall in the dlc too.

I cried as much as I smiled during this episode. I was pretty young when I first saw TLOU DLC and I pretty much forgotten 50% of what happened. So the way Riley didn't hesitate to say okay when Ellie asks her to not go made me shed some tears. Their relationship was beautiful. Thank you for adding the comparison from the game and the series.

Even when I knew what was coming, it still punched me in the gut. This show is so wonderfully written. It's not all the same and sometimes there are things we can't predict. I love how they handled that .

Riley chose Mileena in Mortal Kombat II and Ellie played Baraka. Both were Lovers in the game. Baraka skewered Mileena as finisher. That was the metaphorical endgame. That's how Ellie killed Runner-Riley. I think it's clear she stabbed her. That's why Ellie asked Joel in episode 2 what it was like for him to kill an infected, knowing that they once were human. I think she needed a comparison to her own feelings because she couldn't classify them. That's why she tortured and stabbed the stalker in episode 3. She first wanted to see if he felt something and then the anger broke through in her because an infected bit her friend and killed him. Mortal Kombat was supposed to be the game in the game, but Naughty Dog didn't get permission. So they invented a game. Now HBO has rights to both games and that's how it became possible. Previous episode, Ellie wanted a sip of liquor from Joel and said "still gross". This was her first time. The escalator can also be seen metaphorically. No matter how much Ellie runs against it (sometimes everything stays the same, sometimes there are highs), it still goes further and further downhill for her. Here it is shown no matter Fedra or Fireflys, for both you are just a number. They tell you what you want to hear and what benefits them, to achieve the respective goals. I actually thought Ashley Johnson (game Ellie) would have her cameo here. Obviously, this was not the case, but it comes later in another memory.

Hey Snaxan, did you notice the easter egg when Ellie was talking with Capt. Kwong? Look closely at the keys (logo). 🤔 It was great to see Terry Chen on the show; he was perfect on "The Expanse." As far as the "David" episode goes, The Walking Dead s5 ep1 did that the best. It was one of the most intense scenes in television history. I doubt they go that route, but if they did, it would be incredible.

Between the heartwarming cute moments showcasing Ellie and Riley finally being able to act like kids again for once, if only for a little while...... only to rip it all away again for the seventh time in a row (damn you, show), this never ending River of tragedy that follows Ellie is emblematic of not just the shows central theme but why Ellie continues to fight, to carry on. It showcases her and Riley on opposite sides of an ideological, real and tribalistic conflict before they lay down their arms and come together to just be close for a little while because they're each others purpose in this moment; a fascinating parallel to the Bill and Frank love story and why it matters greatly when Ellie continues to lose and lose. And now that she does have someone who looks after her again, who she can depend on, who matters to them, she’ll be damned if she loses them again. For Riley’s sake and everyone else who died, Ellie will finish this journey……even if it kills her.

It is the one thing I dislike about having Craig Mazin as show director it was his idea too make show less violent than game. Neil Druckman wanted show to be violent as the game.

I'm a little disappointed of this one, because of the removal of the arcade scene from the game, one of the most iconic and meaningful scenes that showed Ellie's vivid imagination, which is very much a precursor to another very iconic scene in Part 2. With all the Left Behind references in the previous episodes I also kinda expected to see Ellie having to shoot Riley, but instead they just ended it pretty much like the DLC did, leaving the rest up to imagination.

😳 not a popular opinion, but this is my least favorite episode, 90% of the time Raily did her lines, it throw me off, had so much hope for this episode, but for me, it was not good, if they had taken the first 5 minutes and the 5 last minutes and made it a clip before the intro in next episode, would have worked for me too, loved this in the game, just didn't connect with Raily. It is a good part to know Ellie better! for me, it was not well made, every other episode I would give a 9 or 10, Ellie made this a 6 for me, if she hadn't been amazing it would have been a 4 for me. I had so high hope for this, overall I think the game did it best for this part, even Bella did amazing
