The song is about two lovers meeting at the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall was a huge wall that divided the city of Berlin in half, with two opposing sides. Guards patrolled the Wall to keep people from escaping to the other side. The Wall was demolished in 1990.

David Bowie lived in Berlin for a short while because he wanted to write an album regarding the political troubles that western and eastern Germans faced which resulted in the album and hit single Heroes. There are not that many true artists that would go to those lengths for their music, but that is one reason he was an artist. I personally have listened to Bowie since 1979 when I heard Fashion on the radio aged 11 and followed Bowie's music ever since. It was fantastic to see your reaction to Heroes. Another fantastic song for you if not already heard, Young Americans. Take care.

I grew up with David Bowie, at time of is early music it was all centred around the moon landings and as kids growing up he was like an alien to us. Songs like Space Oddity, Starman, Life on Mars and Ziggy Stardust had me mesmerised. As an 11 year old I thought he was from out of space, my old mans fault rest his soul.
