You really need to watch the movie, it is as beautiful as the song.

Andy Williams is the MC of his own show, introducing The Righteous Brothers when Bill sang his solo: "Unchained Melody" in a live video in 1965, Sarah!

When I was a kid in the late 1970s my mother had a music box that played "Love Story". I have been in love with the song ever since.

Tony Bennett does a fantastic version of this gripper. It is hard to ignore the feelings, even for an old barnacled boy like me. You knew the melody and that is so cool!!

I've heard this song since I was a kid in the 70's (born in 1967). I knew it was from a movie but I've never seen this film. I think I need to change that & finally watch it...

This is such a beautiful theme song from the movie "Love Story" back in 1970. Andy Williams was such a great performer & had a fabulous career. Loved his voice. My favorite song by him is "Can't Get Used To Losing You". He recorded 43 albums & was nominated for 6 Grammy Awards. He hosted his own television variety show "The Andy Williams Show" from 1962-1971 & had many TV specials. He had lots of great songs such as "Moon River" from "Breakfast At Tiffany's" & recorded many other movie themes.

"What just happened" Sarah is that when you react to songs that tell a story of LOVE you just turn to warm butter & can't stop yourself from melting all over the place into one molten blob. You did it with Bobby Hatfields Unchained Melody as well, keep it up, you'll have us all crying.

I didn’t really like Andy Williams very much when I was growing up. My favourite crooner back then was Dean Martin and he still is, but I appreciate Andy Williams more now that I am older.

I was 12 when this movie came out, and had a crush on Ali MacGraw that lasted a long long time, lol. Andy Williams’ TV show was a staple at our house, and his songs still have a special place in my heart.

You look so confused while listening to this song. Stop trying to figure out the movie and just appreciate the song for the time being. Later you can watch the movie. But you come across as puzzled and clueless while watching and reading the lyrics, instead of letting your heart be moved by the words and the tremendous singing and voice of Andy Williams.

I didn’t go see the movie of the same title when it was in theaters just because I knew it was a tear jerker going in & I didn’t want to cry in public, lol. Andy Williams made a career of singing movie theme songs like this one & many more: Born Free was a BIG hit for him along with Moon River from Breakfast at Tiffany’s (he didn’t sing it in the movie, but covered it & had a huge radio hit with it). Speak Softly Love from The Godfather, Love is a Many Splendoured Thing, A Time for Us from Romeo & Juliet, The Impossible Dream (my favorite) from Don Quixote/Man of La Mancha, and Somewhere, My Love from Dr. Zhivago to name just a few. I hope you’ll continue to react to this very talented man’s catalog. 😊

It's a movie Sarah. If you are ready for one of the best love stories, watch it. But it is a tear jerker for sure.

Robert Evens, head of Paramount Studios at the time, thought the original lyrics were too sexually suggestive, so they used the instrumental version in the movie. New lyrics were written, and on Jan. 17, 1971, both Andy Williams and Tony Bennett released the new song. Side note, at the time, Robert Evens was married to Ali MacGraw, the female star of Love Story.

Yes, Sarah, this love story ended tragically. Well, it did not end, he survived without her, but, her part in the story was cut short. Had you watched the movie prior to reacting to this song, you definitely would have broken down in tears. Especially with Andy's outstanding performance. am crying now as I type this and i have not seen the movie for over 40 years!! And, now i simply have to go and buy the DVD to add to my collection. BTW - the movie came out in 1970 and was an INSTANT CLASSIC. God bless you, Sarah. Enjoy the holidays. -eric "He must increase, but I must decrease" (John 3:30)
