I am just getting into hand embroidery and have been fairly proud of my (small) works (certainly not perfect, but they are mine!) - I have been purchasing wooden frames with glass fronts for my work ... trying to find the cheapest frames possible ($2-3 dollars each, but they look nice). I REALLY like the way you frame your work, but I think my work encased is necessary since I have a smoking husband ... I don't think the fabric would look too good in a couple of years uncovered. I love and appreciate your videos and your calm quiet discussion. I am in the US and I don't think we have anybody quite like you. Sure glad I found your videos (started out watching your blackwork videos). Thank you for your time, hope you enjoy your time stitching and it hasn't turned into a "chore".

Thank you for your kind comments Stephanie, glad you are enjoying the videos! Yes If you have a smoker in the house probably a good idea to mount in a frame with glass in it; try and make sure the glass doesn't touch the embroidery if you can (you can buy special conservation glass if you wish! It prevents light damage and doesn't shine so much so you can see the work better. Speak to a specialist framer). I don't get much time to stitch as I would like and it's often to a deadline but I still love it!

This is really great, I just finished a very small cross stitch, I wish I had seen this before I gave it away, I did cut a piece of card and wedged it in the back of the frame so it wasnt too bad, but this looks very professional Sarah. Thank you, I do something different. Do a little embroidery for the back, an example of the stitches used on front or another embroidery. Then I line the backing with very tough type of velcro, pull it up and stitch it to the very outer edge of the inner ring. I then also have a reversible picture and one that can be wooshed through Woolite for gentle washing.

Congratulations for an excellent tutorial, it could not be more clear, detailed and thorough! Your voice and pace also play an important role. And the way we see both images is great. When you were sewing the felt I wished the camera zoomed in so that we could see more clearly, and then it happened!:) I had been reading reviews about these hoops and how challenging (ie difficult) they are to use, and yet your technique makes it look so much easier. Dear Sarah, I loved your video. I’m a beginner and have just finished a little project that took me a week to make. It’s appropriate for flexi frame framing. However, I wonder if there’s anything I can do to protect the embroidery from stains or dirt in general, as opposed as hanging it just exposed to the elements. I don't know where in the world you are Lynae but as far as fabric goes, use a natural fabric if you can such as cotton or linen or a blend of both. Cotton is very inexpensive and readily available from shops and online. Just wondering! with all your lovely work, whilst it would look great displayed in a hoop on the wall, over a time .. it would yellow and get dirty. Is there something / a product that could be sprayed on to provent this from happening that you know of?

It should really be framed professionally behind glass John if you want to display it long term; you can get a special conservation glass that prevents damage from UV rays also if it's extra precious!

Hi Sarah! This might be a silly question but why do people use those flexi hoops to display their embroidery instead of just a regular embroidery hoop (that’s got a nice finish on it ) . Is it because the flexi hoops won’t damage the fabric over time while displayed ??

The flexi hoops are made for display purposes with a decorative hanging hook rather than a screw but you can use what you like Mrs G!

It isn't necessary, the hoops look nice on their own and if you lace your fabric across the back it will stay nice and tight but you can use it as a feature if you want to!

It will Zoe yes but Aida is a bit stiffer so I would probably manipulate it in my hands a bit beforehand to make it more supple. You can double up on your gathering thread as well if you like as you might need to pull a little bit harder

I think she means when the lace is hot glued to the back of the outer hoop so the lace or other trim surrounds the hoop and is flat on a wall.

Good housekeeping Debbie! Wash your hands regularly, keep your work space clean and tidy and place your embroidery on a new piece of acid free tissue paper or clean cotton cloth when you turn it upside down to stitch on the backing.
