I have found that learning to do anything is not so much how to do it, what ever it is, it's more about how to correct mistakes.

I recently came across a hardanger doily I had started to teach myself to do . While looking at it , it appears I may have cut where I shouldn't have . Oops ! Will have to pull that piece back out & encourage myself to not give up & learn more lovely stitching . Thank you .

I am so happy I stumbled across this video. Tomorrow morning I will be rummaging around to find the hardanger doily I was working on a few years back. I actually cut all four threads in the wrong place, but am assuming and hoping that this weaving a new thread in technique will work. Am eager to try it out! Thank you so much for doing this video and demonstrating it so clearly ❤

Many years ago I was making some hardangar pieces and accidentally cut a couple threads, I was heart broken and thought my piece was ruined. I cast it aside and pouted for quite some time. 😂Sure wish I would have known how to do this repair! But I do now so will dig out that unfinished piece and carry on! Thank you sooooo much for this video.

If only I had this video when I cut accidentally a fabric thread only hours before the video was posted, well I fixed it, not as you would have Sarah but its sorted and no one will ever know. Might I suggest something I found rather helpful when you have cut the thread in the middle I found that I didn't cut the wrong one if I cut the middle two of the four rather than the outer ones, As I tended to cut the wrong one, so 5 instead of four, or four but off by one (bad eye sight doesnt help). The other suggestion, when you have cut the threads in the centre, I found using a crochet hook, (1.25 mm is pretty good) as long as the work isn't too large, turn the work over and hook your crochet hook in and draw all your threads one at a time and they go to the back as Sarah does. I watched another person doing Hardanger boy they didn't take the time to show what they were doing slowly but they cut the threads at the cloister block instead of the middle initially. Oh so scary. Thank you Sarah for being professional and showing us clearly and concise it is much appreciated for those of us who have low attention span or poor eye sight. I make note that I used the crochet hook method while learning drawn thread work as the threads are closer together and it is much easier to put a crochet hook in there than tweezers. I hope this makes sense.

What color of pearl cotton is that? 9:39, beautiful! I love the way you cut the threads by turning it to the back and cutting it there. I'll be adopting that one.

I've cut the wrong threads. The first time I did my heart broke. I spent so much time making my project and I thought it was ruined. I just weaved another thread into it's place. Didn't know at the time that that was just what I needed to do. Very informative Sarah. =^^=

A great book is Janice Love's "Hardanger Basics and Beyond". It's brilliant. However Sarah some of your techniques are better, the way you weave a cut warp/weft for example.

Another thing to consider is scissors being TOO sharp. Mine are so sharp I can just accidently brush up against my pearl cotton and cut it, very easy to do. Slightly blunt scissors are best.

In woodwork it’s measure twice cut once, in Hardanger it’s count 2 times cut one thread 😂it’s not that bad. Getting the kloster blocks right was my challenge and adding in the decorative stitches to the remaining threads🤣😂

Another way of fixing a cut warp or weft thread is to remove it as shown and continue with your piece just as if it were never cut. Yes, you'll only have 3 threads instead of 4 but no one will be any the wiser, it will look fine. Just don't pull your pearl cotton too tight.
