I’ve played in an only recorder orquestra as a soprano soloist since I was 12 , for more tan 10 years and this song drove so me completely mad that I almost quit playing, until today is still the most difficult piece I have ever played. When people tell me recorder is easy I always play this and prove them wrong

Me too. Badinerie on my alto, in original (B-minor) pitch. Sometimes, when I was invited as a guest... And they know me just an electrical engineer and computer nerd... and someone tries to play a recorder like ... Like Mr.Bean ... "Gimme' that toy instrument... " ... badinerie played in tempo ... "woow" :-)))

Covid-19 is a little easier to digest by playing the Badinerie! You really are democratizing the musical knowledge to the mortals.
@daviydviljoen93184 жыл бұрын
The entire suite is already in B Minor, so if you wanted to perform this on recorder, and still stay true to the original you could use different recorders: 1. Overture - Tenor Recorder. 2. Rondeau - Tenor (But you can use an Alto if you want.) 3. Sarabande Tenor (Again you could use alto.) 4. Bourée - Tenor 5. Polonaise - Alto (Only use Tenor or Sorano if you are comfortable with the extended range) 6. Minuet - Tenor 7. Battinerie - Alto I'd alternate between instruments, just because I think that's a fun thing to do. (I'm by no means an expert, I only own a resin Yamaha Soprano and Alto, I still need to get a Tenor and Bass recorder).

Very nice playing and a wonderful presentation. A few comments (I’m a traverso player who also plays recorder). It’s likely that the piece was originally composed in A minor with a violin as the soloist. There are signs of this on the autograph parts. Second, the passage in the Badinerie with the E-sharp-F-sharp alteration is awkward and hard to tune on the traverso, very unidiomatic. The rest of the piece isn’t difficult to play on traverso but that one passage is a killer, especially the tempo is really fast (it is a badinerie, after all, and doesn’t need to go as extremely fast as some people play it, especially on modern flute.

Hey, Sarah!! First, you are an inspiration for me as a musician. I am a violinist but all your videos I've seen have given me a lot. And as a violinist I'd like to opine about Framco's transcription. He used to wirte a lot of violin cadenzas (his famous are mostly for Mozart's violin concertos) and it is always something sort of virtuosistic, so for a violinist that kind of fits, but I do think his arrangement for this Bach's piece is exaggerated as a baroque piece, but is more of a violinistic virtuoso approach, almost turning that into a show off piece

You're right. It suits the soprano frecorder in A minor. But the alto recorder better suits D minor. Better fingering and intonation. Besides, in B minor on an alto recorder it sounds too low. In D minor, it will sound louder and brighter.

so are you reading the music as though playing an alto? I thought that you could just play the alto as though playing the soprano in a minor, then the high B becomes an E etc, but the entire piece is lower in pitch of course, except no difficult fingerings.
@eloycortinez27695 жыл бұрын
@@honeychurchgipsy6 with a d recorder you can read the original flute part in bass clef with alto fingerings (taking two sharps out) that will sound in the original flute key. so for instance if you have to perform with strings, no arrangement is needed.

I used to play a lot of hymns on the piano and hated sharps. I would transpose the hymns to use flats. It took me years to realize I was transposing. I have no idea what key they were originally in or what key I was transposing them to, but it became automatic after a while. I would rather play 5 flats than 2 sharps (or whatever).

What is “accidental and Cross fingering ?
@GodOfReality3 жыл бұрын
I'm confused. This isn't the first time I've heard you (and pennywhistle players) mention the problems with cross fingering. Is this because when you cross finger for accidentals it makes the overtones a bit weird and affects the sound, or is it purely an execution difficulty thing? I don't really understand why people avoid cross fingering on these instruments.
@Team_Recorder3 жыл бұрын
It’s mainly because cross fingerings are more awkward to play- multiple fingers moving in different directions is morw cumbersome and harder to coordinate than just one finger going up and down. They do produce a slightly different tone colour, but I think that’s part of the beauty of the instrument!
