I have to say that the fact that you rev-match when downshifting tells me you're the real deal. Most guys don't even know what that is, much less girlz. Kudos. I kind of got chills when I heard that.

It is a love hare relationship for me with cars, they are a source of never ending fun, a past time and gives a sense of joy and gratification (when things work out and successful). However on the other side to me they are also the complete opposite being a source of sorrow (car getting vandalised), lost time and anguish (never ending work).

I've a rev 2 and 3 Mr2 turbo. One red, other white. Love them. I work in crash repair and I'm a painter by trade. The Mr2 is safe to 1bar or 14lbs of boost on the stock head gasket. Anything more and you'll need a steel gasket to handle it. Might not sound like much since they boost at 0.7 stock. But it makes a huge difference, just need a fuel cut defender switch just incase of spiking with the stock gasket, by far the biggest performance upgrade is a decat exhaust system. It really gives them a kick up the ass on power! Enjoy your vids, best of luck with the rest of the build. 👍

Hi Sarah, quick tip: You can get a white paint pen at any craft store or most drugstores, and use that to "paint" your timing marks.. makes it way easier to see them.

5:13 I was in college when this car was new. I must be cool because of how old I am. In late 1992, my parents bought a red '93 Mazda MX6 Mystère (Canadian moniker) 5 speed manual. Never drove it in the winter and kept it for over 20 years. My mom still misses that car the most. The seats were so low to the ground, I didn't enjoy getting in and out of it.

I have a Red 1989 MR2 SC 5-Speed Manual (Final year for Gen1) with the Factory Intercooled 4A-GZE. Fun little car, and it is in near perfect condition with 89,532 miles on the clock. I bought it in 2005 from the original owner. It even has the factory radio, wheels, intake, and exhaust, which most people change almost immediately. A/C has been converted over to R134a and works great. All I have done is 5% Window Tint (I Live in Vegas, and the Heat Sucks), New Tires, New Brakes all Around, Every Fluid Changed, New Interstate AGM Battery, Plugs/Wires, Distributer Cap/Rotor, and Timing Belt/Tensioner. I tried to use all Toyota Parts where ever possible. I would love to Turbo Swap it, but have been debating it because of how clean and original it is. That guy that sold me my MR2, bought a 1995 MR2 Turbo, which had 32,xxx original miles on it. He paid a ridiculous amount for it, but it looks like a brand new car. It is 100% stock.

Nice work as always! Moving right along with these cars! BTW it's 10 degrees "Before" top dead center. Timing is typically measured Before TDC as in firing the plug (in this case 10 degrees) before the piston reaches TDC. Firing after TDC greatly reduces power.

I'm pleased your keeping the 91 styling. I have a 91 and am doing the same. It has an older skool look to it that i prefer. Congrats on the progress. Makes the low points you had worth it doesn't it. MR2s are a little bit of a challenge to own but so rewarding to drive. I will be doing a 2GR V6 swap on mine next year and will try to do a KZbin series on it.

Many years ago. I had just changed the exhaust on a turbo car before a long trip of over 2000 miles and the exhaust was droning terribly. After many attempts every 200 miles or so, at different exhaust shops along the way, to try to remedy this problem!! The final fix was to extend the tip of the exhaust past the furthest most part of the bumper by a millimeter or two. It instantly solved the problem. Hope this is of some help. Thank you for your Great video's

Sarah! Just a tip, don't leave that tape on the temp tag on your rear window defroster lines. If the sun gets on it, it can bake the tape on and destroy the defroster line. Get the tape so it's only on the glass.
