For my first attempt at Diamond art, I probably should have started with a simple diamond painting kit… but instead, I decided to go all-in and create 3 completely unique projects with diamonds, and NO template!
This isn’t traditional diamond painting… this is more like diamond COLORING. And I’ve chosen a coloring page from my upcoming 2022 Coloring Planner for today’s challenge (Pre-orders opening very soon!)
Diamond Dotz have generously given me their Diamond Dotz Freestyle kit for today’s video, so I’ll be seeing what’s inside and using the kit to get creative with diamonds on 3 different projects, including some 3D letters for my art studio, a pair of shoes, and a coloring page!

The reason why you need more than on, is because sometimes, when you are diamond painting, the tip of the pen starts to distort and it makes it harder to place the diamonds/drills down. So they give you multiple for you to replace the old with.
@irrelevantduckfan4413
@irrelevantduckfan4413 Жыл бұрын
@Artsy If they are the plastic tips the actual tip distorts over time. There are metal tip pens that hold up better but because the plastic tip pens are significantly cheaper the companies aren't going to ship metal tips in their kits

I don't know if you will see this but another option would be putting your picture under a sheet of glass and putting the adhesive on the glass itself. Then you should be able to cut and remove the excess adhesive easily. It would also leave you with a piece of glass that has beautiful diamond butterflies on it. ☺️

Yes and the glass is so beautiful like that too ❤ I saw a video where a girl played with a frame, using the glass as her DP. She tried an adhesive sheet tape type on one side of the glass & then adhesive glue on another (trial & error & helped her decide how to DP on glass). Her ultimate glass painting, she taped the print to the underside, used adhesive sheet tape for most of the picture, cutting around it when she was finished & then she did the last row or 2 all the way around with adhesive glue bc it left the edges neater & much prettier. She removed the print & framed the final DP & it was absolutely beautiful

It was so fun watching you try diamond painting for the first time! I was one of the designers for the idea books that Leisure Arts produced when Diamond Dotz first introduced their Freestyle program. I experimented with dotting just about everything in the house that didn't move. (Actually, now that I think about it, I did adhere some to my face for fun...) It's such a versatile craft and once you have a wider color range you'll be able to do some really cool shading on large projects. I was freaking out when you tried peeling up the adhesive background. I was yelling at you, "No! Add baby powder to dull the stickiness! You'll never remove it!" but of course, you couldn't hear me (three months later and on the other side of the world). Embossing powder works, too. I have 80 bajillion of the stylus tools, but only ever use one for a project. However, it is very handy having extras out for friends/family to use. I brought a large canvas to a family reunion and 5 or 6 of us would be dotting at the same time. It's also handy if you teach classes.

To be honest, I thought you’d use the whole sticky sheet, then tap some embossing powder on the sticky areas. That way the butterflies fly free and you have what you want as a background. I really liked the end result (diamond painting always reminds me of Greek or Roman mosaics), but I really loved the ombré background you did, pre sticky sheet.

I've been doing kit diamond paintings for almost two years now and I think I can count the number of times that I've spilled my diamonds on one hand. Only one of those resulted in any real loss of diamonds or a mess that took more than five minutes to clean up. The way that I did this is that I have a little 8in tin tray (I won't say what kind but you can buy it at a 'head' shop ;] ) with a silicone mat in it that prevents the tray from moving around around. This prevents smaller spills from bumps to the table, and any spills that do make it tend to go right into the tray for easy cleaning. As a bonus, it's also where I keep my supplies when they're put away- my spare sheets of covering for the sticky parts, my extra pink glue, my pens, etc. I think you had two ways to accomplish the butterfly project closer to the way you originally envisioned it. I've only ever made kits before (with printed color-by-number style) but it seems to me that you could have started with the paint-on adhesive (which you already picked up on and eliminated for your own reasons- totally get that), or you could have used either embossing powder or even some fine glitter or something on the parts of the sheet adhesive that you didn't want covered. Lastly, these are all Round style diamonds (Maybe DD brand only does these? Unsure.) but Square diamonds present a whole new side to diamond painting. They're a bit smaller and line up perfectly in their own grid when you use them. They also create a satisfying little "click" when you place them, moreso than the round ones, which can be appealing. Because the squares fit more perfectly than the rounds, you don't have gaps that show the paper behind your project and you don't have to think as much about keeping DIY designs in an orderly grid- it happens automatically. The downside is that more organic shapes are much harder to achieve, like trying to make a round shape in pixel art. The butterflies are more suited to the rounds, as are all smaller designs. If you wanted to make a poster sized picture, the squares might give you a more polished, finished effect. (But they'll take much longer, too!)

I always try to find ways to turn mistakes into something new. It often takes a moment of walking away, sometimes for a few hours, and coming back after the initial frustration has eased off. You could have cut out the butterflies from the page you used the sticky layer on, and paste them on a duplicate page where you have done the background on. I have done a few DP kits and you have just given me some ideas about what to do with the left over diamonds. I could also see drawing out a pattern/picture on an art canvas which would be sturdier than paper. the light pad is really handy for kits where the picture is grid laid out - it helps you to clearly see the symbols that are printed on the fabric.

As a person that is addicted to diamond dot painting, I loved that you can now get design your own kits. I enjoyed watching you “play” with the different elements and loved how they turned out. I really enjoyed the colouring page as this is also a craft I enjoy. With regards to spilling the diamonds I do it quite frequently as long as they stay on the table is great but I normally end up spilling them on the carpet. With regards to the different pens, the pack with the most ones in are the generic pens whereas the others are pens that are easier to hold and don’t end up creating pain in your hands. Also the Dream design might have been easier if you had square diamonds they go on leaving no gaps between the diamonds but your edges might have been more haphazard. You should try doing a diamond picture they are easy to do and very relaxing.

Oh Wow!!! This looks amazing!!! Honestly, I was never really interested in diamond paintings, but this is such a great idea and so inspiring!! I didn't know you could get just the diamonds(and so many colors too) without a painting yo do and now...... I might need to do this too! 😆😆

Wow what a creative way to use left over drills! The butterfly is amazing. I like the black showing in Dream it really makes the colours pop. Tombow aqua glue would be great to cover the glue and show off that amazing background. I use it on diamond crafts all the time, if its flexible it will crack and peel but something flat it really works well.

I’m glad you tried this. I have a diamond painting i still need to finish, my first one I’ve ever done, but I guess I didn’t realize how easy it could be to actually customize your own painting. I knew it was a thing, but I didn’t realize the useful products like the sandwich adhesive. I’m definitely going to diamond paint some coloring pages one day. I thought people had to create their own grid designs for a custom one.

Spilling the diamonds when doing a project is just part of the process. i spilling them at least 3-5 times each time I sit to do whatever project I’m working on at the time. I find Diamond dot very relaxing and never thought of free styling with Diamond dot this opens a ton of possibilities. I have so many leftovers why I never though to add them to other projects is beyond me.

I suggest covering the butterflies with your diamonds then covering the background with glitter, that way the adhesive has something covering it other than diamonds and you can seel the glitter in when you're done

I just stumbled onto your account and thoroughly enjoyed this video! I’m fairly new to diamond painting myself, but am actually working on my 5th canvas right now. That’s such a great idea for left over drills! I’ll have to try doing some freestyle art with mine sometime! Thanks for sharing!

I do diamond painting kits (started during the pandemic as a stress reliever) and have a lot of leftover diamonds. I love your "Dream" sign and think I will do something like that with them. My thought for the multiple placers is that you could use the kit with a group of people and it would be helpful to have extras.

Thanks for this idea! I love to diamond paint but not so much to color, especially the really intricate coloring pages! My son bought me a really nice but intricate coloring book for Christmas and I was afraid I would hurt his feelings if he didn’t see me using it! Now I know what to do with it so thanks so much!

“Ahh… there’s diamonds everywhereee” my favorite line in it. Haha. I had the idea to reuse the diamonds I had but it never happened. This has given inspiration however. Pretty cool projects to do. I don’t know if I would know what colors to put down but then again I do love painting and experimenting so if you could do it. Maybe it’s worth a try too

The page turned out great! I started diamond Painting beginning of 2020. I love it, it's so fun and relaxing. In the beginning I did knock over my diamonds a lot, but more I I diamond painted the less clumsy I got. I also learn not to have too many in my dish. I would love to see more coloring with diamonds.

Use a a ring of tape, or simple release putty to put on the bottom of your diamond trays to keep them from spilling. The putty can be the wax you can use with the diamond stylus. This still makes them movable. Just keep in mind the oil residue left on your table.❤

The sign looks amazing, I think that black is good contrast for the light diamond colors and it works well but white could work also . As for the paper it looks stunning but it's thin and u can't realy do much with it, I would glue it on some white cardboard and frame it, very very beautiful outcome on that paper.
