The reason why you need more than on, is because sometimes, when you are diamond painting, the tip of the pen starts to distort and it makes it harder to place the diamonds/drills down. So they give you multiple for you to replace the old with.
@irrelevantduckfan44132 жыл бұрын
@Artsy If they are the plastic tips the actual tip distorts over time. There are metal tip pens that hold up better but because the plastic tip pens are significantly cheaper the companies aren't going to ship metal tips in their kits

I don't know if you will see this but another option would be putting your picture under a sheet of glass and putting the adhesive on the glass itself. Then you should be able to cut and remove the excess adhesive easily. It would also leave you with a piece of glass that has beautiful diamond butterflies on it. ☺️

Yes and the glass is so beautiful like that too ❤ I saw a video where a girl played with a frame, using the glass as her DP. She tried an adhesive sheet tape type on one side of the glass & then adhesive glue on another (trial & error & helped her decide how to DP on glass). Her ultimate glass painting, she taped the print to the underside, used adhesive sheet tape for most of the picture, cutting around it when she was finished & then she did the last row or 2 all the way around with adhesive glue bc it left the edges neater & much prettier. She removed the print & framed the final DP & it was absolutely beautiful

It was so fun watching you try diamond painting for the first time! I was one of the designers for the idea books that Leisure Arts produced when Diamond Dotz first introduced their Freestyle program. I experimented with dotting just about everything in the house that didn't move. (Actually, now that I think about it, I did adhere some to my face for fun...) It's such a versatile craft and once you have a wider color range you'll be able to do some really cool shading on large projects. I was freaking out when you tried peeling up the adhesive background. I was yelling at you, "No! Add baby powder to dull the stickiness! You'll never remove it!" but of course, you couldn't hear me (three months later and on the other side of the world). Embossing powder works, too. I have 80 bajillion of the stylus tools, but only ever use one for a project. However, it is very handy having extras out for friends/family to use. I brought a large canvas to a family reunion and 5 or 6 of us would be dotting at the same time. It's also handy if you teach classes.

To be honest, I thought you’d use the whole sticky sheet, then tap some embossing powder on the sticky areas. That way the butterflies fly free and you have what you want as a background. I've been doing kit diamond paintings for almost two years now and I think I can count the number of times that I've spilled my diamonds on one hand. Only one of those resulted in any real loss of diamonds or a mess that took more than five minutes to clean up. The way that I did this is that I have a little 8in tin tray (I won't say what kind but you can buy it at a 'head' shop ;] ) with a silicone mat in it that prevents the tray from moving around around. This prevents smaller spills from bumps to the table, and any spills that do make it tend to go right into the tray for easy cleaning. As a bonus, it's also where I keep my supplies when they're put away- my spare sheets of covering for the sticky parts, my extra pink glue, my pens, etc. I think you had two ways to accomplish the butterfly project closer to the way you originally envisioned it. I've only ever made kits before (with printed color-by-number style) but it seems to me that you could have started with the paint-on adhesive (which you already picked up on and eliminated for your own reasons- totally get that), or you could have used either embossing powder or even some fine glitter or something on the parts of the sheet adhesive that you didn't want covered. Lastly, these are all Round style diamonds (Maybe DD brand only does these? Unsure.) but Square diamonds present a whole new side to diamond painting. They're a bit smaller and line up perfectly in their own grid when you use them. They also create a satisfying little "click" when you place them, moreso than the round ones, which can be appealing. Because the squares fit more perfectly than the rounds, you don't have gaps that show the paper behind your project and you don't have to think as much about keeping DIY designs in an orderly grid- it happens automatically. The downside is that more organic shapes are much harder to achieve, like trying to make a round shape in pixel art. The butterflies are more suited to the rounds, as are all smaller designs. If you wanted to make a poster sized picture, the squares might give you a more polished, finished effect. (But they'll take much longer, too!)
@charmainegill92233 жыл бұрын
I have done a few DP kits and you have just given me some ideas about what to do with the left over diamonds. I could also see drawing out a pattern/picture on an art canvas which would be sturdier than paper. the light pad is really handy for kits where the picture is grid laid out - it helps you to clearly see the symbols that are printed on the fabric.

I really enjoyed the colouring page as this is also a craft I enjoy. With regards to spilling the diamonds I do it quite frequently as long as they stay on the table is great but I normally end up spilling them on the carpet. With regards to the different pens, the pack with the most ones in are the generic pens whereas the others are pens that are easier to hold and don’t end up creating pain in your hands. Also the Dream design might have been easier if you had square diamonds they go on leaving no gaps between the diamonds but your edges might have been more haphazard. You should try doing a diamond picture they are easy to do and very relaxing.

Hi Sarah! I just discovered your channel and was excited to find this video!! I am a total diamond painting addict 😋!! I discovered it summer of 2018, while in the hospital, and have been addicted ❤️ ever since!! I absolutely love how your Dream sign turned out! Great job!! And your coloring page was such a cool idea! The Diamond Dotz Freestyle has opened up sooo many possibilities! I've always said that Diamond Painting is like Cross-stitch with resin stones! They even use DMC colors. I don't know how much more you've learned/discovered since this video, but I thought I'd pass on a couple tips. Just FYI, the diamonds with the sparkly shimmer coat are called ABs for Aurora Borealis since they give a rainbow shimmer like the Aurora Borealis/Northern Lights! The 2 different kinds of stylus are the Ergo are ergonomic and more comfortable to use over extended period of time. The extra stylus are cuz the brass tips have a tendency to misshapen over time depending on how hard you press. They have stainless steel and harder metal tips and all kinds of stylus you can get now!! And finally, a really quick, easy, cheap way to remove stickiness - brush on & rub in baby powder over the area you don't want diamonds on!! I'm in a care facility at the moment and when people see me doing my diamond painting, the most common comment I get is: "I wouldn't have the patience for that!" I find it really relaxing and improves my patience actually!! And since you work a small area at a time so the adhesive isn't compromised, you can easily work in small spurts like 15, 30 minutes, etc in spare time! One final tip: it's actually better to start from the bottom and go up. From bottom right corner if right-handed or bottom left for left-handed. That way as you move along, your hand rests on your diamonds rather than the canvas and less chance of hand resting on adhesive and losing the stickiness. I know this is a long post, and since you did the video a year ago, you may have already discovered these tips. But just in case you hadn't heard them yet, I wanted to pass them along!!😉 I'm really enjoying your channel! Definitely have a new subscriber here! 😋😉

I love how all the projects turned out really creative. My favorite was the wooden Dream sign. For the small inconvenient problem you had on the butterfly page. I would suggest tracing the images onto the sticky tape before removing the protective plastic. Then cutting them out and placing them on top of the designated area. That way it would not ruin the entire page. Option 2 would be to have the page be entirely sticky, and once done adding gliter or another craft material to cover the sticky area. Love the project I can't wait to try it out myself. Thank you for sharing your process.

I just wanted to pause and say that i actually like the black behind the duamond dots for your Dream sign. The overall look reminds me of tile mosaics, which i think are so beautiful!

Wow what a creative way to use left over drills! The butterfly is amazing. I like the black showing in Dream it really makes the colours pop. Tombow aqua glue would be great to cover the glue and show off that amazing background. I use it on diamond crafts all the time, if its flexible it will crack and peel but something flat it really works well.

In bookbinding we take talcum powder or baby prowder to stop something from being sticky. Just sprinkle powder on the surface and use a soft brush to spread until the surface is no longer sticky.

I started my first diamond painting about a week ago and have been surprised at how much I enjoy it and how relaxing it is. Spent a few hours yesterday on it while watching Netflix. I'm usually VERY clumsy so I spill the diamonds A LOT... My dog also got onto my desk while I was away for a few minutes and knocked down my little tray of pink diamonds. I'm still picking up diamonds from that little accident.

I’m with Dieter on this you could have stamped , added your sticky sheet and cut it out and attached it to a pre coloured background sheet after completing . I love Dream ! Enjoy watching you .
@janeisabella21853 жыл бұрын
for the butterflies, i was thinking you could use the whole sticky sheet but just cut the plastic backing on the butterflies so that way the colours on the background would still be visible, just a bit glossy :)

You could use clear embossing powder on the distress ink background by using the embossing ink pen to get it into the spots you want.

Lovely video! Very inspiring! And yes, I'd love to see you do a phone cover makeover with diamond dotz!

I love the Dream sign, I never done freestyle, but I would either cover the areas in between the butterflies with glitter instead of stones, maybe an iridescent or clear glass glitter so you can see the details, or I would cut out the butterflies and restick in on a non sticky background

If you want to keep diamond painting you can try diamond art club, it can get a little expensive. Tho I believe that it is the very best quality you can get 🙂

I love anything glittery, shiny, sparkly so Diamond Doting is really right up my alley. I love it. Glad to see you do a video on it also.

I have a lot of leftover diamond pieces from varying projects I've finished so finding dot stick adhesive, that clear plastic film, and those sticky grid mats would be really nice... 🤔

I like the black background on the letters, I think it makes the colors stand out even more, wish I had the imagination to mix the colors like you did, beautiful, giving me idea on stuff I could do with my extra diamonds

Thank you for doing this video! In spite of the frustration you had your projects turned out great! Very creative and thoughtful. Spilling your diamonds comes with the territory, especially when you spill them on the sticky part of your picture. Most times you sit and stare at it with your mouth hanging open🤦♀️. Many Diamond Artists have multiple styluses they make so many pretty ones. Larger kits usually come with a few extra ones and with the size of your kit that's pretty common.

I was dreading spilling them on the sticky area! Luckily I didn’t- but I can imagine that would be so frustrating!

Been diamond painting a couple years, and the ergo stylus are more comfortable to hold than the straw like ones. You get a stylus with every kit, the more you collect. But then I thought that you could load up the extra styluses with the wax ready to go and not have to stop so often to clean out and refill the one you're working with.
@SarahRenaeClark3 жыл бұрын
Was I supposed to clean it? 🙈
@XayideMLP3 жыл бұрын
The wax gets kinda funny if you just keep pushing more into the tip of the stylus. it will make it's way through the tiny hole inside the tip. When the wax doesn't pick up drills (diamonds) anymore, then I'll take tweezers and clear out the used wax before putting more in. It's amazing how little wax is used.

Using glue dots in the pens is really good, you can go for days without having to refill.
@liesbeth98103 жыл бұрын
The difference in the stylus is main,y the shape. The 2 pack are more ergonomic and the other pack is similar to what you get for free with most kits you can buy. They can break after a while (mainly the free ones), but I never use those. I mainly use the ergonomic one from diamond dots or a other that was custom made. Not other differences and mainly preference (some like to use the ones that comes with the kits and throw them away after finishing instead of cleaning the wax out.

I enjoyed the video and thank you for making it real by adding what made you frustrated. It is good to see that the professionals like yourself also have struggles with new projects. I really love how the Dream project came out. It is inspiring me to create a project for my new craft room using diamond art (which I had never heard of before this video!)

I suspect you could use something like flosscross (free tool) to create a cross-stitch pattern from a photo that you could readily follow with diamond painting. Since you can select both the size (in pixels or diamonds), as well as the colour palette maximum colours to use, I think it would work perfectly for custom personalized diamond painting.

I drop dimonds 1-2 times per kit but only a few jump out and hit the ground. I usally stay aware of where my hands and tray are and keep my tray away from me on my left side as I am right handed, I also keep my hand higher up the applicator and hold it up right so my hand doesn't touch any surface.

To cover your background you could try heat embossing with a clear powder. It would seal the surface and let your colouring show plus give it a nice shine. I don't think the heat would damage the dots if you don't overheat it.

Paint your shoes in Mod Podge & let them dry. I'm sealing lots of project pieces now, coasters, bookmarks, corner bookmarks & 4 small purse/makeup bag size (to store DP pens & tools in). You can use a high gloss spray, but I'm finding that mod podge feels sturdier & I used "dishwasher safe" on my coasters.

A year and a half ago my cat drug out, and promptly tore into, a couple bags of black diamonds. I still find them stuck to me occasionally. Also adding a few dots of sticky tac on the bottom in the corners, can help add resistance when you bump into it and can also keep your tray from popping randomly if it becomes distorted like mine have in the past.
@HumdrumCurio2 жыл бұрын
Any kind of translucent powder would stick to the adhesive and make it not sticky. Clear embossing powder would work too. There’s a wax medium I’ve used in the past on tacky acrylic paint but I haven’t tried it on adhesive so Im not sure if it would work in this case 🤔

I enjoyed watching the diamond painting and seeing the finished result. I don't know if anyone else suggested this but if there's a sticky part you don't want, you might try covering it with glitter. Even some glitter allows you to see through it.
