I'm finding myself sourcing more at the bins, especially for shoes. I'm very lucky to have a decent bins near me. I've stopped picking up the "lets see if it will sell" items, and am focusing on brands and categories that have had a historically good high sell thru rate. Home decor and linens do surprisingly well for me, so trying to source more of those. I'm also re evaluating my listings and improving them if necessary, mostly by taking a new cover shot. Once I list more of my money pile (I'm on a thrift hiatus until I'm almost through it) I may also start combining like items - two flannels in the same listing, etc. Its a lower net profit usually but I'm not in the business of storage. I have seen some improvement by doing these things but the market is hard right now. I think it will improve over time, as I'm sure some folks will get out for whatever reason, so I'm biding my time

I started doing exactly what you are doing back in may. I am also going through all in stock items and removing the duds. I have sold about half of my old stock. I haven’t sourced since may also.,I will start listing a few new sourced items next year. I stopped all sales and coupons, left best offer and raised promoted. My sales are horrible but I am using this time to dig deep in ai and list differently. Making sure eBay knows exactly what I am listing using the sell similar link in the listing. I edit the title to make sure I see several sold items that match. That sell similar link is eye opening and something your va most likely isn’t or won’t use. Sure hope things improve for us. I am down from 1 k live listings to 390. Sold most of them but have a bunch to donate. I do sell almost every day but not the average 10 I was doing. The cost of goods has changed that for me. Happy selling, Marjie.

You talking about a 400% increase in tops on eBay, I tried telling someone something similar yesterday and I was told that no way that's true because so many resellers have quit since 2015... People just believe what they want and will lie to themselves and cherry pick facts to try to backup what they want to believe as truth. I 100% believe without a doubt the boom in youtube reseller channels the last few years has been a big part of creating their own competitors. "make $100,000 a year on eBay doing just these 5 things" and other similar clickbait spam videos week after week. Soooo much oversaturation.
@lisamerk8503 Жыл бұрын
Finally someone said the actual reason why! This is what I have been thinking for a few years now. I completely believe the resellers giving the exact playbook are partially to blame for the thrift store price increases and the influx of resellers, basically creating competition for themselves and other resellers.
@rick9705 Жыл бұрын
@@lisamerk8503 100% without a doubt. When Chris Lin says how easy it is to make 6 figures following his basic formula of I'm going to take $100,000 and divide it by 52 weeks then divide that by 7 days and tell people they just need to sell that much per day I'm a genius look guys! lol Same regurgitated information over and over and over it's so easy everyone should resell. I'm just going to wait them out while they fail when it's not as easy as they thought it would be.

I've been reselling for a little over three years and last month was my best month ever. Not sure why everyone else is not doing so well and I am. I did spend more on inventory to gain a greater profit and more trendy items. As far as spending goes, I only spend 40% of my profits. I put 20% away for taxes and pay myself 40%. As a fellow clothes reseller but mens clothes, I have added back Poshmark last month but sales suck there still. Another thing I have done is I am trying to increase my ASP by sourcing better items. I have also added in retail/online arbitrage which isn’t really thrifting but it goes toward getting NWT items into my store and 3-5x profit margins over my average thrifted profit margin. As an example, I bought several pair of G-Star raw jeans from their website last month when they were running 60-70% off sale. Most of the jeans already sold for $70-110 a pair. It is a bit more time consuming but slowly paying off. I also paying attention to STR religiously. I got away from it and I bought a lot of junk that I thought were good buys but weren’t.
@SarahStylesLLC Жыл бұрын
thank you as always for the thoughtful comment! Sounds like a great strategy. My struggle is better ASP means more time searching. Our thrifts are also turning into trash.. so sourcing is even harder
@alzibiades Жыл бұрын
@@SarahStylesLLC My local GW stock is becoming thinner and thinner with finds. Still go and find some gems but it is getting harder and harder. This was why I went to the retail/online arbitrage strategy to supplement my sourcing needs. I have tried bulk buying in the past but most times I end up with more junk than sellable items and my profits are low because I can't sell everything. Another thing I have been trying to do which makes listing time-consuming is trying to make my titles stand out vice just the generic Brand Size Mens Long Sleeve Shirt format as an example. I have noticed over the past few months that items with style names in the title tend to do better. I also look through other sellers' listings to get a gauge on what they are doing so maybe I can learn something new and piggyback off them. I noticed that you have a Boss Hugo Boss cashmere blazer listed that is made from Loro Piana cashmere that isn't in the title. Loro Piana is the holy grail of men's Italian fabric and it adds value to the items.

I'm fairly new to reselling, and I've definitely noticed a difference. I was listing 5 a day on 2 platform's. My nearest bins is a 2 hour drive so I've been going to Goodwill, Salvation Army and independent thrift stores. I'm learning to be much more selective on what I'm purchasing, condition and cost. I dont always find as much so I'm listing only 3 a day and trying to make them as awesome as possible. I'm also going back and refreshing my older listings. Trying to beef them up with better descriptions, keywords and even photos if needed. I just started with the changes so I dont know if it will work, but I'm going to try. I love reselling and have no plans to give it up!

I 1 million percent agree with you! It’s not the same reseller world it was even a year ago. The people who are surviving this are looking into trends ( factor stacking instead of brands) trend research, etc. you have to pay up if you’re going to raise you’re asp. Everyone needs to stop watching haul videos and start watching influencers, trends, fashion reports. It’s all on KZbin. Go walk the malls because mall brands still kill it if you know what to look for! Weed thru old inventory, suck it up and get rid of the garbage that’s not selling. Clearance it out or donate and get the tax write-off. The comment made above that our thrift stores are trash here in Denver, I Completely disagree, you just have to look harder and longer. You can’t just walk in, throw a stone and hit a pile of money. Maybe reseller Nirvana is changing out there and needs to be redefined? 🤷🏻♀️

you say it cost money to list meaning listing fees if your doing it the right way it doesn't i have been reselling full time since 98' on multiple platforms only way to make it work is getting an eBay store i have had an anchor store for at least 10-15 years i pay $350 a month but included in that $350 i get 25,000 listings in any category, then i get an additional 75,000 in select categories and 1,000 auctions in select categories fashion is included in the Select Categories for the auctions and 75,000 listings when all is said and done i get 101,000 listings for $350 which comes to .003 per listing then after you use those listings up each additional listing is only .05 so even if its Low STR as long as you have enough items something will always be selling i feel sorry for those that are paying .35 to list an item that is insane!

@@SarahStylesLLC at 5:40 in your video you say "it cost money to list these items" most viewers will think your taking about listing fees if you have a ebay store preferably a premier or anchor (starter and basic is not worth it) then you don't really have any listing fees as i mentioned or its very miniscule .003 that's not even .01 and if you go over your allocated listing amount its only .05 so no there is no listing costs (when and if we are talking about actual ebay listing fees btw for anyone wondering Listing fees and Final value fees are to totally different things listing fees are what you pay upfront when you list an item no matter if it sells or not final value fees FVF are what you pay when an item sells) at 5:55 you say "at some point you wont be able to buy that inventory let alone pay yourself" this is very true if your paying .35 this is not true if your paying .001 per listing

Women's clothing is a nuisance category because women return far too many items. Buyer want free returns because they know how often they return clothing. Sellers know that it's not worth offering free returns because buyers will cost you far more than the Ebay fee discount.
@SarahStylesLLC Жыл бұрын
I get 5% returns and I do free returns. Not that's higher than a lot of categories but when I did the math the increase in sales and fee discount from being top rated plus was more beneficial than the cost to pay for returns.
