Sarasota vs. Venice Florida | A Sunshine State Showdown

I moved to Venice 14 years ago. It used to be a laid back, beautiful little town. Not any more. The winter seasons are very busy with snow birds and the traffic has become very congested. Even in the summer it’s busy here as so many people have moved here. The beautiful natural open spaces have been bought up by developers and thousands of homes have been built. This boom has changed many thing and none for the better. An example, getting an appointment with doctors and medical services like CT scans is often a wait of a year to be seen. Verse just weeks before. The new hospital is extremely busy and the level of care has declined drastically. If you’re retired you will have health issues and Venice is not the place to be.

Both towns are beautiful and amazing. All depends on what you want. We chose Venice. Quieter, less tourists, 10 min max from the beach.

We booked hotel and will fly to Siesta key beach in middle of May 2024. We will visit Venice..

Sure move here to Venice if you want to live in a nursing home. Average age is 68.8, nationally it’s 38.5, google it! “People retire to Sarasota when they’re too old to work, then they visit THEIR parents in Venice”. The entitled, elderly residents LOVE more people moving here. Who wouldn’t love more traffic, longer lines at stores and restaurants, and more nature torn down to build cookie cutter houses that drive down the value of existing housing!

I live in Venice , average age is 68.8, it’s basically a nursing home. Us locals say “people retire to Sarasota when they get too old to work, then they come visit THEIR parents in Venice” plus, during snowbird season the whole Sarasota/venice area becomes crowded. Ask anyone who is actually here!
