Today we're witnessing a similar devolution of the rivers Ganga and Yamuna. If future generations learn from our records about the Ganga they too may have similar reactions to the "mythological" river. Unless they can research the glacial melt.

Super presentation of facts collated from various disciplines, including living lore. History indeed, needs to read and not studied. The confident diction adds to the conviction. Saraswati is certainly the Prima Donna of all northern rivers, Narmada being the overall one. All earlier scriptures are based on Saraswati. I can attempt add to this collated inference. Manusmriti, which appears to be written after the vedas(due to the many references to the वेद त्रयी) and probably prior to Ramayana and Mahabharata, also has a reference to Saraswati. One shlok mandates that a brahman who consumes alcohol should, as a penance, travel up the Saraswati towards her- presumably to perish en route. I am personally quite convinced of the postulates in this video, the primary one being the Saraswati being the cradle of Sanatan civilisation. The focus shifting to the Ganga Yamuna basin is of much later vintage. People when migrating, fondly carrying names of their original place, recent examples being New York, New Hampshire, New Orleans etc in USA, a country made by European migrants. Really appreciate the information, with so many insightful facts.

Great talk, Mr. Kadian. Your insights were fascinating. I'd like to add a potential factor to consider regarding the sediment loss you mentioned around the 49-52 minute mark. Could human settlement along the riverbank have contributed to the loss? As the river's flow decreased, people might have moved closer to the river, and their activities could have inadvertently accelerated sediment erosion.

Human activitiy was rarely responsible for decline of ancient civilizations depending on rivers. They had lot less population base and lot less big industries . They had no big machineries to augment rivervchannel.

I completely agree with you. I am slightly embarrassed to say that I'm an Indian Hindu from Australia that only knows English.

We need remnants of post Harrapan civilization at site of dead Saraswati or Ghaghra river?

Admitted those Vedic period people were not city dwellers and couldn't have left big monuments on scale of mohenjedaro still there should be some artifacts of that period on bank of mighty Saraswati!

Good effort but with minimal impact on listener. Why? 1. You are using audio visual tools. But you are using only audio part. Your face does not carry info. 2. You could have used map indicating river path with its starting point in Himalaya, haryana, Rajasthan, may flowing through gujrat etc. 4. This helps to catch more attention of listener particularly those outside india. Out of india listeners are not aware of the names and terms you used.

Why Saraswati was called mythical? Earth science need tangible proof of presence of mighty Saraswati. Once it's found then we can call it lost river Saraswati! Saraswati as goddess is a different topic. If we find a girl name Ganga, not necessarily she was born a bank of Ganga!

It is evident that the distinct difference between Mythology and archeology is not understood or appreciated An unfortunate disservice to viewers.
