Italy. According to statistics, Italy is in the top three European countries for the number of centenarians, people who lived to the age of 100 years. Sardinia, the island to the west of Apennine peninsula, is ever more often called "the longevity island".

I never met any person alive over a hundred but I have one more than 90, Here in my village, my grandmother is now 94 while her sister died at 97 last year, during her younger years in her 60s I still remember her not eating too much meat, she don't like instants and processed foods like can goods, she works a lot because she was a farmer like my grandfather but in contrast my grandfather love pork, my grandfather died at 75 due to stroke while my grandmother still alive today, in the last 10 years she eats pure rice sometimes no vegetables until one day a doctor suggest we must give her egg 2-3 times a week so we did and that helps a lot because she stays strong and healthy, her tooth are totally gone so she don't like any hard food except eggs and rice and that's her diet til now, and instead of giving her eggs 2-3 times a week we give her 1 per day and she enjoys it. on the day her doctor suggested to feed her with 2-3 eggs per week her blood pressure was 170/120 her cholesterol was so high above normal. the doctor wasn't bothered by the result instead he says your grand mother needs nutrients and egg can provide it. I don't know how many more years she will still stay on earth.

My beloved mother had 10 children, ran a small school , loved to worry about everything, was a teetotaler BUT smoked until her 60s. She never ate more than 80% full , only ate homemade food, had angina pectoris and high blood pressure BUT lived happily until 100 years. Long life is a mystery.

My late mom, did not live as long as 100 years. She lived to the age of 91 years old. Read the newspaper everyday, cooked her own meals , hardly went to the doctor , walked a lot and had worked a lot . Thankful to have had my mom for such a long life.

I am from Sardinia, my mother passes away at the age of 98 and her grandmother at 101. The Island is a magical beauty full of colours, smell, breathraking beaches, landscapes and mountains. Sardinians old generations were deeply connected with nature, leading a sinple life, working the land, close to each other and keeping their ancient costumes and tradition. Sardinia has a rich and fascinating history. Thank you for the lovely documentary!!!

Sardinia was the location of our home port whenever we deployed to the Med. After 2 deployments I got to know the place quite well, and it has influenced me to this day. You have to work at it to get to know the people, but they are a wonderful bunch. I would move there if I could.

@@dianeyoung8068 I absolutely agree as I have seen this in action. My grandmother just celebrated her 101st birthday and my auntie lived to be 104. They both had (& in the case of my grandmother … “has”) a certain joy for life. My mother on the other hand became highly embittered, depressed and toxic with her emotions and she aged to the point where she looked 90 by age 65 & she was gone by 67. It’s tragic really, it was hard to watch your once beautiful mama go down this path. I am doing all that is in my power to do to not follow suit and to genuinely look for the good & the beautiful in every thing and in every person. ❤️
@dianeyoung8068

@@clairebeane3455 It can be challenging, depending on life circumstances and the traits that we are born with. Some people adapt to changes and challenges better than others. Some people have chronic depression which is a disease, some have childhood trauma that is with them throughout their lives, etc. I think noticing and being grateful for the little things of life really goes a long way to help to get through rough times.

@@dianeyoung8068 Again, I entirely agree with you. My mama had an extremely tumultuous childhood, and she carried those scars with her throughout her shorter than necessary life. Life in general was very difficult and she really wasn’t built to withstand those challenges. There was no such thing as a nurturing environment for her. 💔

I think we should not study or research how to live long. A life live in a healthy way, simple life with human touch is the answer. Away from modern life with unhealthy foods, busy/stressful city, toxic people and addicting technology are some of the factors why human ages are declining. Back to basic life defines human life.

*out of place mandolin music as if we are showing southern italy in the video and even at **37:08** a group of sicilians singing a folk sicilian language song, despite the documentary is about centenarians in SARDINIA (autonomous region with its own ethnic group, culturally and socially not related with Itaian mainland and Sicily). Why? I don't understand.*

Doesn't surprise me. I found this video clumsy in many ways. Very slow to give tangible info. The topic (interviewing centenarians to learn their longevity secrets) has been covered many times elsewhere. But, never covered well. We learn very little. Very interesting to get a look at Sardinia though, a place not covered enough.

When we die it is supposed to be like when you pick a ripe fruit from the tree. As soon as you touch the fruit it gently falls into your hand. Most of us die like when we try to pick an unripe fruit-we have to tug at it- it’s not natural.

I found one interesting history book in Greece about the geology of locations around the world affecting both level of intelligence, more advanced societies and length of life. It consisted of type of rocks, soil composition and minerals etc in rock and soil and absorbed through plant diet this also contributed to healthy or not so healthy DNA types and formation of different groups of people and levels of health.

Death comes to everyone, at random times, regardless of where they live or what they do. Sorry to hear about your dad's cancer; cancer can be genetic as well and if that's the case, it might not matter how one lives ones life. For most people though, nothing major will happen in their lifetime so if they don't want to suffer horrible chronic illnesses and feel like crap all the time towards the older years of life, being health conscious can help.

That sounds so silly. I live in America, we've got the same people here running around saying that covid is on purpose, for depopulation purposes. I guess each country has their own people with their own conspiracy theories it's just hilarious though.!

Nova Scotia is another place full of centenarians. Folks there eat a lot of lobster and those critters are immortal. Might be a coincidence but it might be worth a try to go on a steady diet of lobster to extend your lifespan.

@@science-channel then you'd also probably like to try the diet of a remote Mexican island where, again, there are many centenarians. What do they eat there? Apparently, the island is full of chocolate plantations....

*1500 people died in Sardinia, large part of them died after summer 2020 when the criminal italian government prohibited the Sardinian population from protecting themselves by activating the health passport established by the regional government, which provided for mandatory tests and quarantine to visitors (millions of tourists entered the island, many already infected, using antipyretics to lower the fever and not give up the holiday on the island)*
