On Stanley Kubrick, he was not a difficult man to work with, which has been backed up by the majority of people who knew him and worked with him. He had a few run-ins with actors like Shelly Duvall, but what people don't mention is that she didn't take it very seriously at first and would mess about, so Kubrick tormented her because he thought she was fucking up his movie. The media didn't like him, because Kubrick wouldn't talk to them, so they made up things like he's a recluse and a tyrant, but the truth is that Kubrick was very shy, he would talk to actors personally in private as a form of giving them feedback and he never raised his voice. These are all things that have been backed up by Malcolm McDowell, Matthew Modine, Ryan O'Neil and even crew members like Larry Smith who was the cinematographer on Eyes Wide Shut. These are only a few examples and there are plenty more people who say that he is nothing like what people think he was like, and I think it's sad that his reputation is represented in this light still.

Well, even Matthew Modine thought Kubrick was a dick at first. In his book about the filming of Full Metal Jacket he talks at length about the scene where they first show him in Vietnam where he stands up from his chair and starts kicking at some guy. He said he got a bit pissed at Kubrick then because he had to do that scene like 100 times or some shit. I remember him writing, "That guy was a dick." Lol I think he grew to like a respect him , though.
@Tamacat3886 жыл бұрын
Its strange how much of a Tall Tale kind of character Kubrick has become. Like all the interviews and The Shining documentary have him look like a normal dude with a nerdy voice and maybe a bit of an ego but thats really it. People act like he was some super genius, super dark, super personality that reigned supreme over all things that dare be in his path. Its like he's some fucking anime villain its hilarious.
@WeirdToYourMother6 жыл бұрын
I read a book of interviews with Kubrick. He comes across as slightly confrontational sometimes during the initial meetings, but as time wears on you get the impression he's sort of just doing it for effect, to suss out the people with the imperturbability to respond to him on his own terms rather than relying solely on stock social cues. He seemed like a pretty fun guy, just one whose interests were elusively niche. He'd carry a tape recorder with him to record conversations purely so he could get a realistic sense of conversational rhythm, as opposed to dramatized Hollywood dialogue. And during the writing of 2001 he'd call Arthur C. Clarke at all hours of night to ask random questions about his religious views or mundane scene changes. Just a weird guy, but I never got the impression he enjoyed screwing with people beyond getting a sense for them, he was just a genuinely awkward guy. Of course, it's all open to interpretation.

I appreciate you writing this, as I had only access to the one side of the story, the common one, and now I have renewed respect for Kubrick.

Yes! Barry Lyndon is my all time favorite movie ever; I've seen it at least 20 times. But whenever I talk movies with friends, I'm always hesitant to bring it up. It's the hardest Kubrick movie to describe, and the initial tone is mellow and near boring. But the segments are well written, have the most perfect setups and payoffs, and oh damn, that cinematography. Kubrick makes a perfect moving painting that, when paused on any given scene, is artistic enough to be framed and put into any museum or art theater. It perfectly captures and represents what the idea of a moving picture should be. Thank you so much for talking about this gem among gems!

@mrcuccob63866 жыл бұрын
Saw it with my friends three days ago. Like, ever since the movie began two fucking kids were talking very loud and they were like just three sits away from me. Their mother was with them and the only thing that she did was saying them: Ssshhhh So we got to the Wakanda fight, and even with all the noise of that scene they were still loud as fuck so I told them: KIDS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, SHUT UP. And thankfuly they did, the problem is that my voice is really fucking deep so it kind of sounded like I was gonna kill those kids or something. At the end of the movie during the credits her mother said to me: Look, I'm sorry about what happened, but next time please tell me to shut them up and I will. Remember that they are still kids. And I was like: Oh yeah don't worry, I'm sorry too, is just that, it's a movie theather miss. Still I should not have been that rude. Although part of me was still thinking: If you knew that they were loud then why didn't you shut them up before? A friend of mine basically told me like: Dude, you had your right to be mad but you shouldn't have done that, or at least not the way you did. And yeah I give that to him, I should have done something in a better way. However, while I don't give a shit what people do with their children, at least teach them how to be in a fucking movie theather before taking them to one. Also: Why if your native lenguage is spanish you take your little kids to see a movie in english? Like, there's a dubbed version in the next room, and it's a really good dub and also your kids would understand what the characters are fucking saying. It was not only the kids though, but a big chunk of people in that theather were assholes. Guys with their phone and they have the brightness up to max, a fucking guy was watching a video or some shit in the middle of the movie and people talking loud as fuck and it's like... Shit man. Is not even because of the movie itself or anything, but you're inside a fucking movie theather. If it was opening night I would be fine with clapping and shit because I know that people do that in those type of events, but god damn, it has been a week since the movie came out, just watch it. And that was my rant, sorry if you read all of this.
@LedPESRule6 жыл бұрын
Jesus, I keep hearing about these horrible experiences in theaters and that just never really happened to me in Europe. I think Ready Player One is more interesting as a novel, not because it’s good (its god awful), because whenever the author tries to really “do” anything, he ends up saying more about himself than he does about what he was intending to. When you read the list of references that ironically interrupts the plot, you can just tell Cline is a guy who can’t let go of the past, and whose Rose-colored glasses for the 80’s don’t even allow him to see what those games or movies are about.
@mabelscott77036 жыл бұрын

Thanos' motivation in exterminating half of the universe is in line with his title, "The Mad Titan". He wholly believes that what he's doing is what's best, in preserving more resources for future generations, even though it's bat-shit insane.
@dirrdevil5 жыл бұрын
Right. His idea is sensible in a sense; over population is a threat to the survival of a population. He had a crazy idea to cull half of his own, and was rightfully rejected. Then, his species dies out, which does two things: the tragedy drives him from sorta mad to very mad, and then it reaffirms his ideology. Then, he surrounds himself with lunatic prodigies, some of who worship him as if he was a god, and begins enacting his solution here and there over who knows how long of a time. And at some point becomes obsessed with getting the Infinity Stones to enact his plan. Once he had them, he could use them to solve the initial problem by any number of means, but he doesn't want to. He is fixated on killing half of all things, regardless of the ethical and practical problems. Also, quite importantly, he acquires the Mind Gem last and never uses its specific powers (he uses all of the other Stones throughout), which would include utilizing the pinnacle of knowledge to solve the universe's problems that please everyone in ways we can't fathom. So, Thanos is not stark raving mad and completely divorced from logic, but he is an alien mind, a neurotic genius, a sole survivor of his species with PTSD, a man with a chip on his shoulder, despised by most civilizations aware of him, and has the mindset of a crazed fascist dictator from weirdos that enable him, operating on a flawed logic.

Much like gaping chest wound Superman, I saw some children get their idols shit on. this one kid was pleading with his parents to stay for the end credits scene just hoping that everything would be made right. It was incredible to watch.

I think that the “The Shining” part was the only decent part because Stephen Spielberg still had talent and only put effort in a tribute to his friend’s work.(before you say that it’s based on a book, read the book and watch the movie back to back. They massively vary.)

It’s ok to hate on Marvel, but at least make some good counter arguments with the discussion. Ralph and Alex both made a lot of good pros and cons about the movie. Adam just seemed like he wanted to sabotage the whole thing.
@docchicken9606 жыл бұрын
I don't think he really needs to go into detail about why he doesn't like them, anyone who is interested in film can see the glaring problems in Marvel movies.
@DAMIENDMILLS6 жыл бұрын
He clearly hates them, he picks and chooses which ones to watch, and he has no context as a consequence.
@DAMIENDMILLS6 жыл бұрын
????? Then he should at least not be picky and watch all the previous movies. He constantly needs to be reminded who a character is or he would say he didn't watch one of the connected movies. Seems like cherry picking and he only went to go see the ones he thought were gona be the talk of the internet. Seems fine of you have a KZbin channel, but it just seems strange that he is aware he needs context, and still refuses to get it. So if he isn't going to see the MCU movies in order, then he's wasting his time because that's how they are meant to be seen. It's like reading a book series out of order, you'll get confused and it will only be your own fault.
@ohimdying6 жыл бұрын
Just watch his rewiev on his channel, he was pretty alright with it there. And it's true that super hero movies are becoming even more cookie cutter than love comedies but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. Duuuuh
@officialkidwizard6 жыл бұрын
*DAMIEN MILLS* you're missing the point: Adam barely has any investment in these films and you're acting like it's a travesty that he didn't praise them like they're the second coming of Christ. You're the one coming at this from the perspective of 'he has to literally know everything about all the movies before he can have a criticism of it'... Do you not think that maybe he doesn't know all the names of the characters because he doesn't find them interesting, he doesn't find a reason to get involved in the story, and the only real reason that he's watching this movie is because he knows people are going to want to hear his thoughts on it and also he can make money on a review? Like fuck man.

Namuh Jehff Stop trying to undermine an achievement no film industry on the planet has achieved other than Marvel films. Oh i get it, its a "popcorn flick" that means its "lesser than every avant garde film that was suggested by my favorite youtuber because I don't have an opinion of my own, so I borrow it to sound smart." Alls I'm saying is, give credit where credit is due, its not that hard. Otherwise you're just trying to validate your own insecurities about whether you're "different enough" from the regular crowd. Fucking, PUH-LEASE. Go to film school and give me a good fucking reason for your unqualified cynicism about movies you apparently don't "think are a big deal" cuz you watched Holy Mountain once. Fuuuuuuuuck you.

Kubrick was not always cruel to his actors, and Malcom McDowell was disappointed to find out that he wasn't nearly as emotionally involved in their friendship as he appeared on set. Contrast this with directors who fetishize torturing actors pointlessly. You guys also need to watch Tarkovsky
