1:12:30 Avatar lore expert here. The na'vi fuck with their genitals like humans. Those dangly bits at the end of their ponytails are something like exposed nerve endings, so the hair sex is more of an emotional experience since they're essentially communicating brain to brain, feeling out each other's thoughts and emotions. It's not the kind of thing you'd do with the homies, although I wouldn't judge. Also the ponytails just cover up a fleshy appendage sticking out of their heads. Edit: 1:25:13 The na'vi can't body swap all willy nilly because Eywa has to allow it, and she cares most about the circle of life and whatnot so I don't think she would like immortality very much. Also it was probably an experimental treatment that they hadn't tried before.

@Slugthing
@Slugthing 2 жыл бұрын
@@nailinthefashion maybe I should rephrase it to “well written gay characters”. When it comes to Disney, they CONSTANTLY pretend to be progressive by promoting what I would classify as their “first gay character of the week”, as every week, they’ll have a new “first gay character” in some upcoming movie to draw attention to it. However, none of these characters have been main characters, and are typically side characters who’s sexuality will have little to no impact, so they can throw some random bit of dialogue in where they will vaguely alude to having been in a relationship with the same sex, and this will always be in one scene that doesn’t really need to be there. This isn’t to say that well written gay character can only be well written when they’re in a romance, but there are so many films in which the main characters are assumed to be straight by the writers/directors (based on the way they’ll interact with the opposite sex). Perhaps instead of Doctor Strange being interested in women, he could be interested in a guy. You don’t have to change anything about him apart from who he’s romantically interested in. What’s more important here is that it is baked within the text itself. He would just happen to be a gay main character, instead of some lazy joke such as “hm, I think I might’ve had sex with him once before, but I can’t tell” (sorry for how poor the joke is). That could easily be cut out, and it barely implies that the main character is gay. Even when a character is more openly gay in a Disney movie, it’s usually some offensive stereotype that makes it even worse. I think a good example of that would be Jungle Cruise, in which the guy is “girly”, so I guess he’s more openly gay or something.

I hate how so many people (not talking about Adum) don't understand that cinematography still exists and can still be great even when said thing is animated, 2d or 3d. And it takes work, I especially hate when people devalue the work that's put into animation, the immense amount of effort that's needed to make shit look good
@Lifesizemortal
@Lifesizemortal 2 жыл бұрын
agreed. Most of the time CGI hate really shows who the charlatan reviewers are. The tools and methods changing over time is the expected evolution of the medium. Same with film purists who think we never should've switched to digital cameras, ignoring how expensive and inaccessible filmmaking would be otherwise. In the same respect, CGI makes modern filmmaking accessible to independent filmmakers, also making the big budget movies of epic scope at all possible, while still being comparatively inexpensive to practical FX.

It was actually even more satisfying after seeing it for a second time after seeing Multiverse Of Madness. While MOM did have it's fair share of moments of proper inspiration and directorial control, seeing EEAaO really did serve to make me realize it wasn't all that maddening nor did it use the multiverse to much of the same effect. I mean the highlight of it all for me was Dead Dr. Strange and taking control of the minions of the dead, but the other has at least 3 scenes of that same kind of high inspiration.

Totally agree with Adum regarding the teaser. It looked very nice, but nothing that blew me away to the point where I could say "wow this looks unlike anything I've ever seen!" Back in 2009 Avatar revolutionized CG effects but other films have caught up since and now that CG is the new norm, there has to be something truly breathtaking and unprecedented about it to have it be equally as impactful now as it was then. Scarlet Witch is a tragic character in the comics as well. I haven't seen either Wanda-Vision or Doctor Strange 2 but it seems like they are showing MCU fans the very fucked up way Wanda deals with her trauma. In thr comics, on big, important Marvel storyline was "House of M" which was entire story about how the world was altered to fit what Wanda wanted due to her struggling with her trauma of losing her family. Generally people have what they really want and are happy. Eventually some characters learn what she has done and in the end Wanda erases like 90% of all mutant DNA in the world simply by saying "No More Mutants". I love Scarlet Witch. She's a really interesting character. Scarlet Witch was originally a mutant and part of X-Men lore before joining the Avengers. Eventually she was retconned to not be a mutant for some reason, so it kind of calls into question her motivation at the end of House Of M. Since Wanda herself was a mutant, if she actually got rid of all Mutants that would include herself. That makes the ending of House of M even more tragic imo. She was attempting to remove her own incredible power, and possibly end her own life.

The Death Metal event, that was somehow both in continuity yet has no barring on the plot of other superhero titles, Or the fact that New-52 Superman died and was literally replaced by OG Superman from the previous continuity/universe. Like Marvel only ever did What-if, Ultimate, and the MAX lines, which were either different enough or *very* fucking different to the main continuity. Sure there was still a multiverse, but who gives a shit when it’s not actually the characters that you read, just facsimiles of them that happened to experience the same things. So it’s funny that out of greed, the MCU is succumbing into the same pitfall that’s affecting their competitor

I think Ralph’s point is that it’s less important for the greater movie that Dr Strange’s characterization be on point. It isn’t something the movie puts much emphasis on, so him being pretty weak (same with the script in general) was less impactful than it would’ve been in a different type of movie. That being said I do agree he’s sort of brushing off a lot of what the movie was trying (and failing, bc the script was terrible) to go for with Strange’s character. The core conflict of the movie is supposed to be how Wanda is going to extremes that Strange would have gone to himself to get what he wanted, and him learning to let go of it, but it ultimately fails in exploring that conflict. The reason I don’t care as much about that is the film does explore aspects of Dr. Strange that I think are more fun (even though the script disagrees with me) like him doubling down, utilizing forbidden magic in a creative way being how he ends up winning in the end.

@@ElvenSonic I understand that perspective as there are definitely movies I enjoy that are lacking in the script but are a very complete experience based on elements such as world building or tone. There's a lot that y'all missed in the nuance like in the pairing tradition. There would be those that choose someone based on their merits, best singer etc, but the point would be to get to know people; to date around and pair with someone you would die for, someone who taught you the way to the ikran, someone who would vouch for you in front of their entire people. Upon a rewatch, there's so much more to offer than just a Dances with Wolves retelling-- There's a strong, stern Poison Ivy type who makes fun of all the men around her but actually has a heart of gold, who is a perfect mirror to the military dudes. She's my favourite character out of the bunch and I wish we could have seen the school in operation. I'm hoping the sequel gives us that pay off through a flashback maybe, but I doubt it. I disagree with Ralph and Alex. When watching Wandavision, Wanda wasn't portrayed as the villain (At least, not at the end) There are bits where she is portrayed that way, sure. But, this isn't consistent. Wanda Mentally tortures an entire town, keeping children locked away from their parents, one of the people says, "If you wont let us go, just let us die." Yet, at the end, when the authorities show up and it's time for Wanda to face the consequences of her action (ENSLAVING AN ENTIRE TOWN) Monica Rambeau, our "good guy" character decides to just let Wanda escape, telling her "They'll never know what you sacrificed." All the blood on Wanda's hands, was accomplished due to Monica, just feeling bad for Wanda and letting the villain go, after ENSLAVING AN ENTIRE TOWN. The police show up and as Wanda is FLEEING FROM THE COPS, Monica says "good luck" The show ends with Wanda FLEEING FROM THE COPS, with the soundtrack in no way indicating, that this OBVIOUS bad thing is bad. Instead, the music is hopeful and as Wanda looks back at the town, THAT SHE JUST ENSLAVED, the music begins to kick in and again the music doesn't change into a more sinister version, to indicate that she just enslaved a town. It was just your average, get ready for what's coming next music. Also, this isn't relevant, but I just want to remind everyone, that they brought Vision back, with his memories and I feel like that was just forgotten. For some reason he never contacted Wanda, he just left, because?

Something I took issue with in Multiverse of Madness was the direction they took with Wanda. At the end of Wandavision, while not immediately forgiven, Wanda comes to terms with vision’s death and that what she did to the town was wrong. However she doesn’t seem to be entirely over her kids which we see in the end when she begins to read the dark hold. But instead of showing the journey of her becoming corrupted by the darkhold, they just skip all of that and she’s just evil. It comes off as very lazy to me.

The majority of movie theaters only have 2k projectors installed (since most films finish at a 2k resolution). So you all probably saw it at a 2k resolution. Usually, the theaters will promote specific theater rooms as a 4k digital projection (even with IMAX, you have to look for IMAX with laser as any other digital IMAX theater is also shockingly at 2k). The 3D version of the trailer was super immersive as like the first, it was natively shot in 3D Edit: Just found out, James Cameron is doing a "remaster" of the vfx in Avatar 1, before the release of Way of the Water.

I also thought for the longest time that Neytri was actually called Ataryi or close to that name, I hadn't seen the movie in about 6 years until I watched it a few days ago. Like "oh shit really people remember all the names of the caped dorks in the movies whose sole purpose was to bring all the most famous of the caped dorks that have been part of comic books, tv shows and movies since the 50s together?! And they don't remember the name of characters from an original IP from a decade and a half ago that has had zero sequels, tv shows, and very little in the way of tied-in media in general?!" Of course it is westernized and full of hollywood tropes to appeal more towards the "average" guy (just like the movie itself), but that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. James Horner still manages to make the music just as exiting, complex and beautiful without having to sacrifice the accessibility of it. And there are still plenty of "foreign" sounding moments to create a nice balance. If they went the way they initailly planned, it would have probably sounded more like Horner's Apocalypto (which is a much inferior score IMO).
