Upon reaching the US in 1928, this is how the great Sarojini Naidu introduced herself.

To be frank, the USA is older than India. India was never a single country until it got its independence from the UK in 1947. Compare this to the US which got its independence from the UK in 1776. You may point out India's ancient cultures, but even that can be compared to the Native American cultures.

@@தமிழோன்There you have it. People like you are the reason she explicitly mentioned the fact that India is an ancient civilization. Even if we disregard all religious texts and scriptures and confine our knowledge to whatever history points out, we'll still arrive at the Indus Valley Civilization, which is one of the three oldest civilizations in the entire world. Just because our borders were changing doesn't mean that we were nonexistent. Even the borders of European countries have been changing for a long time, but that doesn't mean that they weren't a specific region.

And today we look down upon Indians who use any accent while speaking English. Before Indian English accent we al spoke British accent and no one had any issues then. Now if we use any foreign accent the Indians will start lecturing about using only Indian accent while speaking English. It's sad. Foreign accents aren't our enemies it's our prejudices and fears that prevent Indian from becoming a global super power. Foreign accents used English for centuries and hence they have proper rules and Understandability to send communication across to others. Hence I urge Indians to stop hunt Indians who use foreign accents while speaking English or French. A stylised form of English sounds better. You grew up in India amongst Indians and then you are speaking with an accent, it’s not natural , it’s forced. That’s why such people are made fun of,because they are faking it. These Indians who speak with an accent are the ones who are looking down upon their native accent and think a foreign accent is superior. You missed the whole point.
