CodeMasters' mixture of IKARI WARRIORS and ARNIE for the Commodore 64 😹😺👍🕹️. I still love the Commodore 64 games on the Commodore 64 and Amiga 😺👍🕹️.

I liked the fact that it makes an attempt at capturing the best from all of those games... however, it was unfortunate that none of them were as good as their counterpart originals. Shame, but still - give it a whirl and see what you think 😇🕹️👌

It almost looks like a Shoot-em-up-construction-kit game. Not surprised that the Amiga version is no better: A bad game idea is a bad idea, after all.

@@CheekyCommodoreGamer I always liked the idea (in very few of these overhead games) where the enemy cannot see you if you're behind a tree or vehicle etc. It adds a nice level of realism that very few of these games achieve. It's also nice when objects like trees or vehicles block the enemy's shots (and yours) so that you can use them for protection. This does require a bit of a higher level of programming skill, but it adds so much to the game.

The success of Kung-Fu Master told developers that players wanted to have an attack with almost zero range, with endless hordes of opponents rushing in from both sides. And then Green Beret took that formula and said, "Yeah, that still makes perfect sense when everyone is armed with guns." Daft!

Had this one around some of my big bootleg compilations, and I always had soft spot for it. Quite simply, looked like a cool interactive demo, and fun private joke experiment - stuffing two distinctive gameplays into one load - and I mean - two of the most iconic & classic "special forces" action games in the arcades, and on 8-bit computer. And visuals and motions weren't bad at all, quite tasty to look at, but sure the gameplay was lacking in various departments. Let's say that I keep fond memories of this game because it made me dream of possibility to actually make some really cool game using the same concept. Just putting some elements properly together (if Sensible Software guys did it, go figure...). Strenghtening the formula and going multi-part for the sheer varied content, some suggested narrative and many cool moments to experience - no limit to great fun. Feel like mentioning Fernandez Must Die again - also unique example of the melting pot of various commando-styled shooters (and then some) - we just needed some more efforts in the same mold, to get it completely right. There is awesomeness lying in these concepts, but not pushed to their possibilities. However, it's never too late. Incredible C64 games are being produced on a daily basis today, and perhaps someone might decide to check these commando stuff of old, and give them some new and better life? Maybe somebody who read these line of mine? One can never know...

Hoo boy, this one is absolutely shameless! The days when QA and playtesting was done by the programmer or one of his friends resulted in some ungodly horrible games being released on the unsuspecting public, and thus review magazines were absolutely essential to the gamer of the day. This was surely a good example. Not going to look it up (if I even could) but I am sure the Zzap!64 crew didn't give this clunking turd anything above 30%.
@CheekyCommodoreGamer5 күн бұрын
Wasn't one of the best, but still - I'd say fire it up and give it a whirl. I can imagine there will be plenty who love it, as games are very subjective 😇🕹️👌

Fun video! I appreciate the Amiga version comparisons. I always thought that the Amiga versions were far superior, but as here and in some other vids, that was not always true. In this case I have the feeling that this was an eatlier Amiga game? Could it be that they rushed some Amiga releases without using its 16 bit potential? Great upload anyway and keep the good memories rolling!
@CheekyCommodoreGamer5 күн бұрын
Yeah the Commodore 64 had many games which were much better than the Amiga ports and, in this instance, it definitely shows! A poor, poor game for the Amiga. Was funny playing this one though on the C64, it's not half as bad as the review makes out... most of it was tongue in cheek. Stay tuned for more classic nostalgic memories 😇🕹️👌
