I trained with the British SAS during a cross training coop. My unit was LRSD, US Army. These guys are top notch!!! They are like supermen! Excellent training! for security reasons, i can't devulge what we did. When on op, we deficate in our holes. We dig a separate 3 foot whole that we put it in...with bags, of course. We resist detection considering there are only 6 guys deep behind lines. Oh,..you smell like the area you're in. Soap and shave cream means detection. hope i helped.

its absolutely brilliant the way they use the "model" to show the rest of the group what they need to know instead of explaining it or trying to lol, so simple to think like that for them but not to most army"s!, this is yet ANOTHER teaching that makes the SAS stand out above all other "elite" forces, the SAS are far better than anything I have ever seen.....................and I'm from America!

Actually I grew up (American Army Brat) in Nuremberg, Germany. I remember not being able to go to East Germany and we left a few months after the wall came down. Anyway, I think they where trying to be somewhat politically correct (or concerned) and not having Arabic "bad guys" or some other ethnic group that constantly get portrayed as such on American TV shows. Either way, it's a cool show and ANY special operations group are bad ass regardless of what country they are from.

MR TRUCULENT wishes he was as fit as this. John McAlees was, MUST have been extremely tough and fit but he died at the early age of 62, with a heart attack, yet someone like professor Steven Hawkins has spent most of his life in a wheel chair unable to move and is 75 years old at the time of writing this comment.(30/01/2017) So does being fit make you live longer ? John McAleese probably enjoyed all that adrenaline flowing through his veins. I know the SAS are secret but did he get an important medal ?

Zooumberg Indeed mate, I've seen how the government is easily forgetting the veterans, not just in the UK but the Yanks' govt. too. Money is allocated to the administration mostly, and stupid socialistic agendas. And those SAS chaps as well, who even have problems with gear like old gas masks etc. because of bureaucracy. Anyhow, stay strong mate, for even though many forget the sacrifice of soldiers who bled for freedom, from beaches of Normandy to deserts of Iraq, there are some of us who do have respect those brave men and women who provided us with the freedom we enjoy today and mostly take for granted. Per Mare, Per Terram.

My Father worked in Chemnitz and Dresden after the reunification, at the moment I'm digitalizing his slides, maybe I'll put some of those up, after I'm done. Going to Chemnitz and Dresden was strange, at times it felt like the war (WW2) had just ended over there. The city was in a bad state, hell some houses with flats didn't even have their own bathrooms, so to take a bath one had to go to the public swimming bath, where you could rent a bathroom. And a lot of the houses where in a bad shape.

As badass as these guys are, neither the SAS nor the SEALS or any special forces for that matter, have ever gone up against an enemy as well equipped or as well trained as themselves. Imagine if these SAS guys had to extract a war criminal out of Russia from a Spetznaz secured facility, they'd be pretty fucked, or at least as evenly fucked as the Spetznaz boys. In essence, it'd be a bloodbath on both sides... Nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody can take away from the sheer guts and determination and raw military talent these lads espouse, but holy fuck, let's be honest here, they're lucky the bad guys are only ever from poorer countries with a lesser advanced training regimen. Sure, they're almost always outnumbered, but they're outnumbered by dipshits in comparison. It's like putting a pair of first-class soccer players against a high school soccer team. Sure, Messi and Ronaldo are outnumbered, but you know they're still going to win...

The thing that surprised me was the depth of the map designing, it shows that special forces need a whole array of skills. Some of which you may not even realise have military application.

That's the amazing thing about the military. Even if you have no idea what to do with your life, enlisting will at least find you something you're good at. Combat is just one part of it but it's basically like a paid, govt sponsored college where if you don't know where you want to be in 5 years, they'll find something for you and train you. I respect it a lot.

This is heresy of course but many other nations have special forces who are every bit the equal of the sas. It is foolish hubris to discount the notion that some of them are better trained, better equipped and more effective. Who really knows?

Great documentary...Thanks...All the worlds special forces are elite warriors...The argument as to who is better than who is a mute argument...However, when it comes to reputation, the British SAS are at the top of the tree as they were the first real modern army intentional and embedded special force...As well as being the first, they are still functioning and have maintained their original positioning at the top and therefore are considered the best of the best, although any special forces soldier from any special forces regiment in the world, could likely walk into the SAS, pass selection and function as well as any of the SAS men already in the regiment...They are all good...

Not sure if you're being serious here or not. This situation would never happen; most SOPs carried out by the SAS will take only a 4 - 8 man team. This program is just showing the different roles within the SAS. FYI, a lot of SEAL instructors are former SAS operators.

Well depends on which german army, the east german army had the AK-47 and AK-74. So they got the east german arms and the west german uniform. ;) Even the cap is right.;) Oh and just so you don't misunderstand me, I saw this as ironic. I wasn't complaining, but rather having my fun at that fact. ;) No hard feelings, that was irony, german humor, which is hard to understand for non-german speakers. BTW the english wikipedia article on german humor is a fun read.........no pressure! ;)

Trained by the Aussies? I'll pass after the wonderful demonstration of "skill" they gave during the "war on emus" Which reportedly the Aus military fired 2,500 rounds and killed between 200-500 birds. Dat aim.

The US and the UK do not do SF OPs alone. A SEAL team will always have a SBS adviser on hand. If the SAS are on a OP a SEAL will be on hand, nowadays NATO SFs do not plan operations alone they will always have a NATO SFs team on hand to advise. During the Bin Laden raid the SEAL team 6 had SAS pathfinders a few clicks out in case air transport was not an option and no the "SBS" is not a spelling mistake the SBS is 'Special Boat Service' another Special forces within the UK.

British Flapjacks? And actually I have a cup of tea right now :D I cant see your point I am afraid, since all of the cases you listed will have been an ex SAS man. All current SAS members have to keep their appearance hidden for security reasons I think. You really should try not to be rude about other people's cultures mate, comes across badly.
