the military need permission to fire upon the enemy even if some dumb son of a bitch is holding a fire arm, the infantry have to wait for the enemy to fire upon them before we can return fire, the standards of having to ask permission to make the kill shot, has dropped tremendously a soldier should know when to shoot and who could be a threat to them selvs and there company "they fight like lions but are led by donkeys"

Pretty amazing, i love all this kind of stuff but towards the end when they're talking about leaving the SAS/Army or whatever and starting at the botom of the pile i can't help but think it's stupid that these people aren't set up for life when they leave the SAS and even the forces in general. A footballer gets paid millions for kicking a ball around while these true heroes go through immense training and go through unbelievable stuff only to leave it all and have to take a shitty job to make ends meet. Sure, some of them write books, make games and get on TV shows but it's a far cry from what they deserve. I'd like to think if i were royalty, stupidly rich or whatever and i got taken hostage for example, i would make sure the people involved in my rescue lived comfortably for the rest of their lives.

After having slagged off walter mitty dreamer types who want to join the SAS there's nothing wrong with it provided you are quite intelligent and super fit and have good endurance and are quite young. If you fail the selection like 90 odd percent do theres no shame in that. AT least you had the balls to go for it if you don't drop out really early on.

I dunno, I'm an armchair type you will have to ask the people themselves. I do know the SAS is a small force but deadfy If you have the vision to see beyond the obvious they are a great thing to have in world politics. Theres always that unspoken threat that the best troops in the world maybe used against you. Its handy for tinpot dictators and other idiots. The SAS themselves would probably hate the idea of that, being any part of politics, but thats how the world is.

Opinions are like assholes!!!! Everybody has one!!! If we’re being honest every tier 1 unit from a first world country is gonna be equally comparable and the deciding factor would fall back to their support and any advantage one or the other may have!! As far as tactics and training SEALs and SAS are equally trained and funded and the selection process for both is equally as rigorous!!! The SEALs and SAS/SBS are literally friends and train together and operate together regularly!!!

Go read "Inside Delta Force" by Eric Haney. Delta Force was modeled almost exclusively after the SAS. Even their selection phases mimic the SAS's, all the way down to the relaxed manner of the instructors during the selection phase. Richard Marcinko (creator of SEAL Team 6) even had his SEALs train with the SAS regularly. Bottom line: Without the SAS we wouldn't have a lot of the special forces units we have today.

When Eddie Stone says being SAS, does not give you a god given right to a descent job; I disagree. When you are highly trained or skilled or qualified, I think you do have a god given right to have a descent job and career and be given the respect you deserve. If society is going to insist that highly skilled, trained and qualified people exist, then society should respect you after you leave these roles, as well as during them. Otherwise, what is the point of all the specialised training and skill development.

What makes them better than other special forces soldiers who are very good themselves like US Navy Seals is simply self motivation. It is hard enough when someone screams at you all the time and helps you keep going but finding the motive and the inner strength yourself is really hard!!

the interview part at 50:19 onward is imo impressive and touching at the same time. it shows the human side of the elite soldiers, what they think of family, what their worries are, the problems they face after service and that theyre in fact not a bunch of thugs. its very important to show that side too, not only the glorification of invincible special forces drones. on the other hand, why are so many sas troopers on tv scottish? i have a hard time understanding them. ;)

***** I spent twenty years in the air force, it is not part of the army, get your facts right you moron. Origins While the British were not the first to make use of heavier-than-air military aircraft, the RAF is the world's oldest independent air force: that is, the first air force to become independent of army or navy control.[3 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Air_Force when you decide to insult people, best if what you say is true, not a load of bo--ocks. Aye. Some never adjust either. My dad left the army twenty years ago, and he's still got it in him. He's extremely restless, can't ever not be doing anything, gets angry if people don't take things seriously. I can understand why going from discipline and constant action into normal life would be VERY hard. Part of why I never followed in his footsteps. Almost wish I did, in retrospect.

It was SAS who agreed to teach the Americans for the yanks to get their own elite unit. Called many names, in the 90s they were called Delta Force, now Special Team 6. Change your name all you like, the SAS is still the standard. Many American marines and special forces have tried to get into the SAS.

Also unfortunately the US special forces don't specialize in intelligence gathering. Since they tend to be doing strike missions more then anything else. It would be fairly simple to train the special forces by the CIA/NSA in order to increase the abilities of the Special Forces to be something more then just a surgical strike team. I still LOVE my boys in the military and I can't emphasize enough how much training and effort they put into completing the training. It just shows the different styles of training and what the military WANTS for special forces and what roles they have to play in the whole scope of things.

The British guard regiments are all top class fighting soldiers. To be in a guard regiment means you have to be a lot better than a normal regiment. Throw in the commandos and the parachute regiment and the royal marines and theyre all good. Most of the people who try for sas selection are from the parachute regiment.

Yes I agree that SAS and other Forces often have it rough after returning to Civvy Street. It's a poor use of highly trained and motivated people, to have them back at the bottom; perhaps unemployed. IF I were an employer, I would be proud to have the sorts of skills they have. And I don't even mean in Security work. They would be self reliant and able to work alone. They would be able to think quickly and react to changing situations using their own judgment. Many would have First Aid skills already. And having spent several years in the Service, Their loyalty, commitment, and motivation and leadership would also be good for any firm and colleagues in team setting. Again, I would be proud to have them in my Firm or Project. Sad to hear about Mac. All the best to them all. Jack.

some peole view them higher then the NAVY SEALS not to say they are just that it depends who you talk to. The point is they top or Britsh soldiers and are suppose to be their country's SEALs, but sometimes it comes down to the peson, i seen guy in Air Force Special Forces on a TV show pitting against 6 Navy Seals and time and time again he kill them and complete the mission. i was happy about that cause i was in the Air Force and this guy was Para Rescue. All special forces are in the same class, it is almost like opinion, they work together, it that why don't quit and 6 months of basic it an makes the same type of soldier. Green Beret also have 2 basics so it changed the flunk out rate, the first one they think is real one and a lot of them more then half, t then it actually starts from there the NAVY SEALs have one BUDs, before that you go to regular basic all NAVY goes to. they reason why they NAVY SEALS, but they all have extremely high wash out numbers. If you asked who was higher to Green Beret he say Green Beret if you asked NAVY SEAL he say NAVY SEALs are higher. The Green Beret have famous songs written about them and they are much older then NAVY SEALs. In the eyes of military they equal it just different branch. The graining is the same type hard to complete and try easy to quit. You an quit just ring my bell, the regular military basic you can't quit even if you wanted to. Even Recon is lower then true special forces they get compliments and proper up as they go through the training, that never happens in BUDs. It a mind thing and test of what your made of, and nobody knows that answer till it is over. Everyone know why they here what the screaming is about but even knowing that they still end up quitting which amazes me. It probably like quitting smoking, you just can't let quitting idea into your head, you also need to certain physical body swimming 200 meters without a braath ask some peole phscil their bodies aren't made for it.

i forget the name of the show, but it was him against 5 or 6 NAVY SEALs and every show he kille all of them and completed the mission. He was NAVY Marines Recon at first then crossed trained to Air Force and became Para Rescue or PJ. Also combat controlling are just combat oriented they call in air strikes from the ground. There was one mission he killed 3 and then got caught but he was Not a NAVY SEAL.
