Metronomic drumming? Roger Nicholls' Wendel II drum machine was used on The Nightfly, but I'm not exactly sure on which tracks. New Frontier also has a very regular, metronomic beat.

Donald is 75 now and won't be able to tour much longer. Bands like this need to continue to keep Steely Dan/Fagen stil alive. This and all your other selections from this concert are just superb.

That looks like Gary Lunn on bass, and yes, he’s an incredible player! Also Tom Hemby on guitar. Tim Akers on keyboards (black shirt), John Hammond on drums and Gene Miller on vocals. They also play together in Tim Akers’ Smoking Section, an amazing funk, soul and R/B band featuring horns (who are likely represented in this video, I just can’t make them out). Gary’s bass on their cover of Rock Steady is fantastic!

An utterly brilliant song, fell in love with its musical complexity on the Nightfly album in 1982. Studied it ever since, now this absolute treat of seeing it performed live. I need to rub down these goosebumps! Blown away!! What a creamy guitar tone.

When I got The Nightfly piano music I was amused to find some pieces like Greenflower Street didn’t bother with a key signature because there were so many accidental flats and sharps. I’m a guitarist and love to play some piano but I play like the dog in the Muppet Show.

Was dancing to this by the Drifters at the age of 14 in 1956. Loved the Donald Fagen rendition when I heard it years ago. I love this song. You guys are killer.

Same age as my Mom. You've got you 80 on the way...Happy Birthday! She took me to concerts as a kid and instilled my love of live music. Saw James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5 (before they had a record deal), Al Green, etc. in the early 60's and 70's.

I'm surprised there aren't more views for this group and their other songs. Got a lot of balls covering D Fagen. Not very easy to do. Impressed with the back up singers in particular. Hit all the right notes on time, Not surprised no DF sounding voice for vocals. Again, hard to imitate his voice..Really enjoyed this and the other songs from that album that you guys covered. Nice work, deserves more views!

I like watching this band even more than listening to the original tracks. In the early 80's I attended university with some of them, and did a lot of Nashville recording work with Tom, Gary, John. Nowadays, I am just an amateur Hammond B3 grinder for amusement.

Great cover. Jeff Porcaro played the hi-hat one handed which gives it another tinge but that’s OK.
