Fun fact: 0, 0 is actually called Null Island, because in some databases whenever they didn't specify values for the longitude and latitude, saving it as NULL (meaning no value, undefined) it mistakenly got saved to (0, 0) which is in the middle of the ocean. So, due to this error, many places ended up at Null Island, creating an urban myth around this place.

@tyrusbachar93599 жыл бұрын
See, I would agree. However, the question really isn't that simple when you think about it. There are three continents that cross the equator, South America, Africa, and Asia: and two continents that cross the prime meridian, Africa, and Europe. The conundrum is figuring out which continent's center point is closest to the meridian intersection [(0,0)} in which case, Africa is the closest and therefore the correct answer. However, that answer is slightly hard to come by... at least it is when you're trying to visualize a map in your head. PS: I actually face-palmed when he used his second life-line that question.
@MetalliCxZero9 жыл бұрын

I´m American, but I have travelled to many countries throughout the globe, thanks to my ethnical ancestry, due the fact that my family was doomed by the Jewish Diaspora, I have to say that other countries are way better educated than us. And it amazes me that most of my compatriots (Americans) think that in order for a person to be become (financially) rich, (he/she) needs to be smart, which to me it´s risible, I mean, not necessarily, since the "sine qua non" to become a millionare is lack of scrupulousness, it doesn´t mean it´s one of the reasons, but it is one of the main conditions. I mean, power corrupts and most times, corruption is attached to power. Not all smart people are rich or ambition to become one, but most of the rich people (not all of them) lack of scrupulousness. It´s like the old saying in Spanish (literally translated): "Behind a great fortune, there´s always a great crime"... And meaning of crime, not neccessarily makes an exclusive assumption to legal crimes, but also there´s moral crimes and spiritual crimes.
@AnGeLoUs078 жыл бұрын
+BRYAN351 You are discriminatorily prejudice (and forgive my aliteration), but it's not sensitive to even argument such an statement. It depends on idiosyncratic factors mainly. I mean, if you displace yourself to the Arab Emirates the account of criminality you'll find there as in most well-developed country is actually conducted by the oligarchs and the labour demography/less solvent individuals are just a reflection of their own environment which is created by circumstances and incidentals factors that the oligarchs create to manipulate the masses, using the excuse of "organizing society". Meaning, that criminality is subject to human conduct, not just a pure demography based on stereotypical definitions. Action and reaction.

You are right about there being six, but america is two continents while europe/asia is one and the same since they are on the same continental shelf... However, it is more often taught that there are seven continents in the english speaking world due to the fact that the english language does not have separate words for a 'part of the world' and a continent.

all these comments bashing Charlie about not knowing the Equator is 0*... woe was he, I'm sure.. Why I bet he went straight to an ATM, pulled out $100,000 and used the crisp, new bills to dry his eyes from all the tears.. then wiped his ass with each one and burned them. I'm not a Sheen fan-boy, but please people, this guy's been drilling the hottest women on this planet since the late-80s, and you people are bragging about knowing an imaginary line. Americans are viewed as idiots because of: - the high percentage of people who think creationism is how the world came to be (which is 42%) - the relatively high illiteracy rate (which was 14% in 2014, putting them at the average of the world, which is just dramatic for any developed country) - the fact that the average American puts more weight on whether someone will say "God bless America", rather than advocating for actually workable policy to determine whether someone is fit for office. - the fact that, in America, you can successfully sue a company making microwaves for not putting in their manual that you can't use a microwave to dry your puppy (which subsequently someone did try to do, killing the puppy) - the fact that this isn't even the most ludicrous law suit to be awarded in the USA. Don't blame the world for the way Americans depict themselves...

If only Charlie had some basic geography knowledge, he could've easily answered 'Africa' and still had 50:50, and call MJF, to answer for $125K. But, well-played anyway. And was fun to watch. Nice to hear from 'Mike' also.

Such an easy question once you realise it’s the intersection of the Equator and the Greenwich Meridian. I don’t blame MJF, because he had only 30 seconds. I think if he had seen the question and had more than 30 seconds he would have known it.

Oceania is what the Region is called. Which adds subregions (e.g. New Zealand) to the continent of Australia. Continent comes from latin - terra continens meaning continious land. While I would say that "Oceania" could also be accepted as a name, to disregard Australia as the proper name is simply bullshit.

@Jay. Zero degrees longitude is an arbitrary point that goes through Greenwich, England; mainly thanks to John Harrison who invented a marine chronometer (a long-sought-after device) ... you would have to know that, but it seems he did. Looks like he thought zero degrees latitude was at the South -pole and the 50/ 50 saved him; actually it's the equator and Michael J Fox (good choice of phone a friend) knew this. The questions aren't difficult if you know the answer, Americans aren't famed for their knowledge of world geography; but remember he's playing for charity in front of a lot of colleagues ... My guess is the 50/50 guy threw him a bone, by removing Antarctica.
