අනිවාර්යෙන් එන්න, නියම රටක්! නිදහස් අධ්‍යාපනය තියෙනවා. ඔයාල හිතන "නිදහස්" අධ්‍යාපනය නම් නෙමේ. AL නැහැ, tuition නැහැ, z score නැහැ! Island rank, district rank නැහැ! ළමයෙක්ට සල්ලි ගෙවල වුණත් රජයේ campus යන්න පුළුවන්. සමහ‍ර වෙලාවට ඔයාගේ දරුවෝ USA වල රජයේ campus යනකොට ඔයාල මුදල් ගෙවයි, නැති නම් student loan ගනියි. Campus ඇතුලේ පොලිසිය ඉන්නවා. Engineering කරන්න undergraduate එකට එන සමහර ළමයි පාසලේ Physics කරලා එනවා, සමහර ළමයි පාසලේ physics කරලා නැහැ. නමුත් campus ඇවිත් foundation course කරන engineering කරනවා. මේ රටේ technician කෙනෙක්ට වුණත් degree එක කරලා engineer වෙන්න පුළුවන්. මොරටුවේ NDT කරපු එකාට මොරටුවේ undergraduate එක කරන්න දෙන්නේ නැහැ! ඇත්තම ලංකාවේ නිදහස් අධ්‍යාපනයක් නැහැ! ලංකාවේ සමාජයේ පංති භේදය, ගොත්‍රිකත්වය ඇතිකරන පිස්සු අධ්‍යාපන ක්‍රමයක් තියෙන්නේ. මේවා කියන කොට ඔබට හිනා යයි, නමුත් USA ආවහම ලංකාවේ පිස්සුව දැකල දුක හිතෙයි...

That's indeed an interesting story. However, my suggestion is that it's beneficial to apply for an MSc/PhD after completing your BSc in Sri Lanka for the following reasons: 1. You can earn a strong and thorough BSc degree in your chosen subject (e.g., Mathematics). 2. If you come from a middle-income family, you have the opportunity to earn and save some money during your BSc years, which will help cover the costs of the application process, airfare, etc. This is based on my personal experience, and while others may disagree, having some savings can erase some of the burdens in this process.

ඔබ කියල තියෙන ක්‍රමයට ලංකාවේ campus යන්න පුළුවන් කී දෙනාට ද ? වැඩිම Z score එක ගන්න අයට පමණයි ඔහොම ලංකාවේ රජයේ campus යන්න පුළුවන්. නමුත් අපි දන්නවා එහෙම වැඩිම ලකුණු ගත්තෙ නැති වුණත් දක්ෂ ළමයි ඉන්නව. ඇත්තටම මේ දරුවා කියපු ක්‍රමයට ගොඩක් දෙනෙකුට USA ,Canada වගේ යන්න පුළුවන්, හොද English දැනුමක් , බාහිර ක්‍රියාකාරම් ( විශේෂයෙන් sports, volunteer service), SAT scores, 9 වසරේ සිට 12 වසර දක්වා පස්ලේ විෂය වල GPA එක, statement of purpose, recommendation letters වගේ දේවල් වලින් apply කරලා undergraduate එක කරන්න scholarships ගන්න පුළුවන්! ලංකාවේ OL හෝ AL USA වල පිළිගන්නේ නැහැ, Undergraduate වලට apply කරන කොට common app එකේ AL results, optional section එකක් තියෙනව honors කියල අන්න එතන තමයි දාන්නේ. ලංකාවේ විභාග මුලික අධ්‍යාපනය නිසා රටේ ගොඩක් දෙනෙකුට උසස් අධ්‍යාපනය ලබන්න අවස්ථාව නැහැ. කව්රුවත් මෙය වෙනස් කරන්නේ නැහැ. ඉතින් මම හිතන්නේ රට දියුණු කරන්න ගොඩක් අමාරුයි.

I don't want to argue with anyone, and I would love to see more undergraduate students from Sri Lanka in U.S. universities. I definitely agree that all kids are talented, and their knowledge and skills can't be fully evaluated just based on the A/L exams. The challenge, however, is that no government can't easily expand university intake because of resource limitations. But at the same time, we should feel grateful that we have free access to education from grades 1 to 13, as well as free healthcare for everyone. These are privileges that many countries can't provide, and they offer a strong foundation for all citizens, even if the system isn’t perfect.

@@AjithSNayanananda ලංකාවේ රජයේ විශ්ව විද්‍යාල වල ප්‍රථම උපාධිය නොමිලේ කරලා සීමිත පිරිසකට විතරක් යන්න වෙන විදිහට ඉතා දැඩි තරගයක් ඇති කරලා. වැඩිම z score එකට හොදම degree එක සහ විශ්ව විද්‍යාල. මේ නිසා ලංකාවේ ළමයි වසරකට රුපියල් බිලියන 200ක් tuition කාරයන්ට පුජා කරනවා. නමුත් රජයේ campus වලට මුදල් නැහැ! දියුණු රටවල 50% වගේ රජයෙන් campus වලට දෙන්නේ, අනෙක් මුදල් ළමයිගෙන් අය කරගන්න university fees, ඒ campus දියුණු වෙනවා! ලංකාවේ දියුණු වෙන්නේ tuition කාරයෝ, බණ්ඩාර දිසානායක කියන tuition මුදලාලි Segis කියල private campus එකකුත් දාල. ඇත්තම ලංකාවේ නිදහස් අධ්‍යාපනයක් නැහැ! ළමයි ගොඩක් මුදල් වියදම් කරනවා z score එක වැඩි කරගන්න, tuition කාරයන්ට ගෙවල. දියුණු රටවල ළමයි තමුන්ගේ තියෙන විෂය නිපුනතාවයෙන් campus යනවා, දක්ෂ හෝ දුප්පත් නම් නොමිලේ අනෙක් අය රජයේ campus වලටත් මුදල් ගෙවල ඉගෙන ගන්නවා. රටේ ගොඩක් දෙනෙක් ඉගෙන ගන්නවා. නිපුනතාවය අඩු නම් campus එක තුල foundation course කරලාඉදිරියට යනවා. English දැන ගත්ත කියල දියුණු ලෝකයේ අධ්‍යාපන ක්‍රම ගැනවත් දන්නේ නැහැ. ලංකාවේ ඉදිරියට යන්න පුළුවන් exam වල වැඩිම ලකුණු ගන්න උන්ට පමණයි! ලංකාවේ equity in education කියල දෙයක් දන්නෙම නැහැ! ලංකාව කවදාවත් දියුණු කරන්න බැහැ මේ "නිදහස්" අධ්‍යාපනය නිසා!

Congratulations Son! Good luck for your journey. For every body else who are wondering how he got there I’m sure his SAT score played a big role getting the scholarship. But everyone else if you don’t get a good result in your ALs and miss the chance to go to a government university here is my advice. That won’t be the end of the world for you. There are lot of private universities as well as places like the Open University in Sri Lanka where you can get your degree. If you don’t have money, just earn some first, and then register for the degree. Specially places like the open university support part time degree for kids who work and still want to get their degree. You don’t have to go to the States or UK to study. The place doesn’t matter if you’re a smart person. No one really cares from where you get your bachelor degrees, once you get your masters or your PhD. And then it doesn’t matter where do your PhD if you’re talented and a hard working person. I am a scientist running a research lab in a well known institute in US. Guess what, I did my bachelors in the Open University Sri Lanka with a First class, and did my PhD in Sri Lanka as well. But I got my first job in the US, New York University. Well my AL results were not good enough,. There’s no such thing called a best country or a best college, it is only you can make the best out of it, wherever you are and whatever you do.
