The weird false Neutral is also what happened to me last week on my training bike (doing the A2 on a 2023 310 R). I hope they fixed that on newer models.

My rear brake squeaks too. Always has. Changed pads. Still noisy. Recently added a rear brake riser for a Tenere T7 and it helped tremendously. Not a direct fit but can be done. Another great video! Ride safe.

My 2019 G310GS doesn't display neutral when not in neutral so I can't try to start it in gear. That's a problem specific to your bike and adjusting the sensor should fix the problem. The clutch is twitchy on my baby GS, but in a different way. The engine doesn't have much rotating mass so it's easy to stall the bike. I did that some in traffic but trained myself to rev it more before letting out the clutch, however I still stall the bike a lot off road. I usually ride with ABS on for the easy off road that I do, but if I was riding where there are steep hills and I needed to skid the rear wheel down the hill, every time I stalled it on the way up the hill, I'd need to manually disable the ABS, which is a hassle. There is an $825 Rekluse clutch that fixes this stall problem, and BMW added a slipper clutch and ride by wire in 2021 to greatly resolve this issue. I added a 30 mm bar riser and I rolled the bars away from me a bit and they seemed good there. If you want more adjustability, there are adjustable bar risers where you can control how high to raise the bar, how much to move the bar fore and aft, and what angle the bar is rotated. I've bought some good after market "Amazon special" accessories and some that were meh. Overall, the popularity of the G310GS is leading to more and better accessories, both from the no-name Asian importers and the mainline aftermarket suppliers. The accessory situation is much better now than it was when I bought my G310GS four years ago. I bought Givi engine protection bars and they were an easy bolt on solution. Many of the cheap versions need pry bars and ratchet straps to bend the bars enough to align, and some even need new holes to be drilled. Givi is good to go. Almost four years in, I've spent $0 on dealer maintenance on my G310GS. I do all of the maintenance myself, and it's been cheap and easy. I kept records. I didn't buy supplies from the dealer but I bought the best quality stuff I could get online and kept the records to preserve the generous 3 year factory warranty, which expired without me ever needing to use it. I'm currently two months overdue for the annual maintenance but still well inside the 6000 mile limit. I'm still planning to get the high Seat Concepts seat, maybe this winter, but apparently my butt has become accustomed to the seat, or the seat wore in, or both. I'm no longer saddle sore after 400 mile rides. It may also be that I stand when riding through small towns now that I have large comfortable Pivot Pegz. My biggest G310GS complaint is still the 2.9 gallon fuel capacity. I usually get 180 to 200 miles to a tank, but it should have at least a 4 gallon tank, and preferably a 5 gallon tank. I'd pay a few hundred dollars if there was a good aftermarket solution, but there isn't.
@anthonya7066Ай бұрын
Interesting, that neutral thing is bizarre I have never had that happen, did you notice it from new or only recently? My only complaint is the clutch engagement point is a bit too late for my liking, it's okay for road riding but on technical off-road riding I have to concentrate on the clutch too much, so it distracts me a little. I would prefer the bite point to be earlier and have not figured out how to adjust it to my liking. Maybe if I changed to aftermarket clutch lever it might help.

Im interested in your opinion of kawasakis versys x 300
@Sasqmoto3 ай бұрын
it was one of my choices but ultimately was smaller and not my cup of tea. I have a friend that rides one and hes trying to get rid of it. I find the bmw perfect for me. the versus is not a bad motorcycle. I think it all comes down to personal preferences.
@BrianSmith-ql5nj3 ай бұрын
@@Sasqmoto just curious the details of the decision though. The versys is more capable offroad. Has a higher top end. Carries more fuel. Operation of machanical components are butter smooth. Actually made by kawasaki. I havent ridden a bmw but given the chance i will try one out. I currently have a 2024 klx 300 and have been seriously considering the versys as my second bike in 2026. As far as i know the bmw is the only direct competition to the versys x 300. Thanx for the replies im enjoying your bmw content.
@Sasqmoto3 ай бұрын
when I was first looking for a motorcycle I looked at all specs and comparisons. I did a whole video on it. I saw the versys as more of a dual sport vs adventure. it was more off road biased. I wanted something that would be fun on the street with less offroad. now as I have had it for a while. I think I made the best choice. Each motorcycle has its stregths and weaknesses. the 7 inch ground clearance was a plus, the handling around corners and more street biased was as well. The versys is smaller, im a bigbguy and fit was foremost. looks dont hurt. l like the trellis frame, warranty is off the charts on the bmw with roadside assistance. So there are a lot of things that were pluses for me on the bmw.
@BrianSmith-ql5nj3 ай бұрын
@@Sasqmoto i see thanks for the insight i am also a larger guy 6 ft 250 pounds i preferr the look of the versys but as you stated the footpegs do seem a little high to me as well. The nearest bmw dealer to me is 60 miles one way. Great videography on your channel and your voice is very easy to listen to. Subbed.

Totally agree about the back pedal position, not had the noise yet. looking at putting some bars on mine the best ones I would say come from Germany, but a bit expensive but looking at the revues good quality even if I get stung for customs duty...thanks brexshit.

just got some parts from the Uk. I thought I would have to pay customs. no fee. It was from Rally Raid.
@UltralightMotorcycleCamping3 ай бұрын
My Givi engine protection bars fit perfectly and were a simple bolt on solution. I opted for just engine protection and not fairing protection. I've dropped the bike several times and the fairings have been protected by the handlebars. If I scratch a fairing, I'll Bondo it and paint the fairings Krylon Fusion matte black. :-) I'm not paying what a dealer wants for plastic fairings. Givi is in Italy so hopefully no customs duty for you?

That Neutral issue is the first time I've come across while searching for others experiences with the bike. Also I didn't realize the Back Brake Squealing was a common issue. Though I'm a new rider so I don't know what is normal/bad on a bike, I got this bike brand new 2024 ver. to be my first bike. The squealing was there day 1, Though as a new rider I practiced low speed exercises for a month using a lot of back break for about 2 hours almost every day & the squealing just stopped one day. It has been a month since then & the squealing hasn't come back. I commute to work on the bike daily so I run about a little over 311 miles a week. As for the Rear brake pad...I never found it uncomfortable? Maybe I just tolerate things more than others but the bike has felt pretty perfect to me in terms of comfortability. Though the $311 I had to pay for service hurt, didn't know it would be that much. Oh, I ride in SoCal by the way.

awesome for you to practice like that! I grew up in so cal. Torrance. thanks for watching. stay safe out there.

I agree with all of them! I have not had the false neutral issue, but have definitely seen the rest and have an issue with blip downshifting where the shift lever doesn’t come back on 2nd gear. I also agree with mx costs, the dealer near me is really good with customers, and I usually do my own maintenance and when my starter clutch went out the parts guy even recommended I buy the cheap replacement part on eBay bc the one directly from bmw was so over priced ($700 vs $50) and they even loaned me the puller and engine holder pin to do the job.

I completely agree about all the extras for this bike. BMW offers almost nothing, so you have a choice of either cheap knockoffs from Ali or Temu, which don't always fit, or you're left with Wunderlich, which is unfortunately very expensive, which is a bit at odds with the budget bike that the G310GS was supposed to be.

I don't have that neutral light issue on my 310 gs but oddly enough I do have a similar neutral light issue on my Kioti tractor lol. As far as the 5 things go, that's probably about average for all bikes. They all seem to have some "wtf were they thinking" issues. You are correct on the aftermarket support.

My comments incomming 🙂 ... - I haven't experienced the "neutral"-problem... yet... Maybe I will, maybe I won't 🙂 - yeah, the handlebars have given me some headaches too, and I still consider fitting a Renthal 🙂 - The back brake is annoying, yeah! But it does stop the bike 🙂 - I have had no issues with stuff from RallyRaid, SW-Motech, GIVI, AS3, R&G, SHAD, HyperPro, BarkBusters... but yeah, the cheap stuff from China (TEMU, AliExpress, Amazon, etc. are sometimes really crap and doesn't fit without modifications...) - YEAH, the cost of visiting a BMWshop is really really expensive! I agree, for a budget-bike they should charge another rate per hour than for the ridiculously expensive big BMW's 🙂 (For that reason I get my bike serviced at a non-BMW shop... although I do oil/filter-changes myself) Overall - I love my 2019 310GS, and so far I have 20.000 km of happy riding, and I have no plans of selling it 🙂 Btw, I enjoy your video's ... Learned a lot from you, and are still learning... Happy riding, and keep sharing 🙂

I think ALL motorcycle dealer shop costs are outrageous. I think my friend paid over $600 for the break-in service on his CRF300L Rally at the dealership where he bought the bike. That's a lot for what is mostly an oil change.

I agree with you about the rear-brake pad being placed to low and it is not adjustable. I did end up getting a plate to mount on top of it and that did help, some... My brake pad was about 1.5 inches low compared to the foot peg so even with the added plate it is not even with the foot peg. It's better, but still... We should not have to reach down with our toes to find the brake. That is so lame! I have not had the Neutral issue like you have, but I have not been riding that much lately with all of the heat. Thanks for the negatives! :)

Hmm I've never had that problem with neutral after 4 years of ownership. I do have an issue where it will stall with the clutch fully engaged at a stop when I twist the throttle occasionally, but thats never happened unless I'm at a complete stop. Also on your point with the parts not fitting - its not just a problem with cheap parts. A set of crash bars I got from a reputable German brand had mounting issues where it was off by an entire half an inch. I contacted them and they said its a known issue with these bikes that some of the tolerances in manufacturing are massive. Not sure if they were just deflecting blame or if thats legitimate. Price of maintenance and replacement parts is kinda crazy for such a cheap bike. Also waiting 4-8 weeks for parts to come in from Germany. Very much considering trading it in for a CRF300L
@Sasqmoto3 ай бұрын
do do it... the tolerances are not off by that much! welding is an art. some people are amazing at it others, not so much. i tried the 300l and it felt like I was doing a wheely. the suspension is so soft in the back! Thanks for sharing. stay safe.
@UltralightMotorcycleCamping3 ай бұрын
@@Sasqmoto - The CRF300L Rally feels very different. It feels like I'm popping a wheelie. I thought the suspension was soft and there was a lot of engine braking on the G310GS, but both are much more noticeable on the CRF300L. I've ridden nothing but small dual sports since the mid 1970s, and I now much prefer the ride on my G310GS to the CRF300L Rally. I'm putting 50% off road tires on the baby GS, so that'll make it ride more like a dual sport.
