Maria, please don't feel sorry or worse or uneasy because of your choice not to watch the news! I decided to stop doing that about 15 years ago, then I started again in 2020 because of the pandemic and within weeks it had driven me into extreme anxiety disorder and later almost depression. Now I haven't been watching or reading any news at all for 2 years and honestly I never want to start again. Never ever. This is a valid choice we all have the right to do and I feel so deeply for you in that! Thank you for sharing!

@@sarahjaye4117I too have struggled with intrusive thoughts. It’s like a default setting in my brain. Very recently I had a break through, I inserted my own thought, to think like a race car going around a track numerous times. My new thought is “be kind to yourself and others”. I like it because it reminds me not to be hard on myself for struggling and I think it is just compassionate. I really hope this method will also give you a break through. For me intrusive thoughts just pop up almost when I’m “expecting them too” it such a bad habit. This has helped me redirect the narrative. @@biff123similar! I have anxiety, ocd and adhd and I can’t STAND when people are so flippant about ocd or adhd to “defend” their quirks. Like actually - I’m consumed by the thought of germs and have to check our doors and plugs multiple times before we leave the house, and forcing people to give me “real hugs” when they or I leave places and obsessing if I don’t do these things. I know some people have certain compulsions about things being neat and orderly but I want to rage when people use it to mean they just prefer things to be clean.

People don’t understand that OCD is a genuine disorder that’s based on anxiety and guilt. It has nothing to do with enjoying cleaning. Those of us who have compulsive cleaning as a symptom, we clean because we’re SUFFERING mentally, not because we enjoy it. And it usually has nothing to do with there being a mess - we clean compulsively because there is an awful intrusive thought in our head (for example my daughter will die from poisoning if I touch the fridge handle without washing my skin with bleach). It’s a nightmare. I hate when people say “I’m so OCD.” I appreciate you being respectful 💜

I have to check our door locks multiple times each night etc. my compulsions are not severe, so I’m thankful for that but the obsessive thoughts have been hard my whole life. You mentioned you had ADHD a long time ago (used to be called ADD). Which means you’re neurodivergent! Neurodivergence includes ADHD, OCD & Autism. Some people have 1 of those, others have a mix! What you experience are signs of both ADHD & OCD. That would explain needing things in a very specific way, it would explain how you dive into things that interest you in a very significant/hyperfixated way. It even would explain why certain things are too loud for you! (Like at your classes or at the theater) ♥️ I know some people don’t like the label, which I totally get! I am proud of being neurodivergent. We are a quirky folk! 😂

The thought of peeling peaches and have the juice dripping through my fingers gives me shivers! I too have stopped watching the news. I read news instead (less visionary bombardment) but even then skip over the most gruesome parts. I feel too much and become distraught over all the horror in the world. I'm not ignorant to it but I cannot consume it! The love waves you talk about I feel as well. I actually believe that is Reiki. I believe that emotions intensify when you become a parent. My husband and I tear up at every happy and sad moment in life, in a movie, etc. I know when it’s time for me to hand him a tissue without even looking at him, and vice versa. Weird quirk of mine - when I eat M&M candies, I first have to separate the colors and then eat two of each color at a time. If there is a color with an odd number of candies in my hand or whatever, I have to eat the odd ones separately, one by one and never with another color. My husband makes fun of me about that. I never eat that candy any other way. Love your videos. It comes through what a great person you are and I can feel the love and care you send out to us. Learned a lot of sweet and cute things about you today. Would love to sit and chat with you over a cup of lukewarm tea. All the best to you and your family, Maria.

Omg, I feel like you are describing me! I can’t stand the under part of cups. I was just telling my mom I want to open a restaurant called the perfect bite. Thanksgiving I need to mashed potatoes, corn, gravy, stuffing and cranny and turkey in one bite and always need the cranberries with the turkey. Lately I have made white chicken chili and use scoops and put the chili then a jalapeno slice avocado chunk and dollop of sour cream on top w cilantro and a squeeze of lime. And I recently stopped watching news and true crime and I feel so much better. Curating what I put in my mind. Hearing you makes me so happy! Watching you is so comforting and I feel like you are one of my good friends! This reminds me of your speaking on sensitivity as a fellow artist I can relate. This excerpt from The Creative Act from Rick Rubin summed this up perfectly for me. One of the reasons so many great artists die of overdoses early in their lives is because they're using drugs to numb a very painful existence. The reason it's painful is the reason they became artists in the first place: their incredible sensitivity. If you see tremendous beauty or tremendous pain where other people see little or nothing at all, you're confronted with big feelings all the time. These emotions can be confusing and overwhelming. When those around you don't see what you see and feel what you feel, this can lead to a sense of isolation and a general feeling of not belonging, of otherness. These charged emotions, powerful when expressed in the work, are the same dark clouds that beg to be numbed to allow sleep or to get out of bed and face the day in the morning. It's a blessing and a curse. Another one The people who choose to do art are, many times, the most vulnerable. There are singers considered among the best in the world who can't bring themselves to listen to their own voice. And these are not rare exceptions. Many artists in different arenas have similar issues. The sensitivity that allows them to make the art is the same vulnerability that makes them more tender to being judged. Still, many continue to share their work and risk criticism in spite of this. It's as if they have no other choice. Being an artist is who they are, and they are made whole through self-expression.

I'm so glad you shared this, Masha! Extremely relatable. I've been realizing lately just how many people I know that experience similar stuff, but it's people I never would've expected it from. I definitely also have sensory issues, you talking about things being lined up reminds me of myself. I always have to make sure my keyboard and mouse pad are lined up right to the edge of my desk, and if it feels "wrong" I have to keep adjusting it. Same with the way clothes feel. Sometimes they just feel uncomfortable. Personally I've always had issues with the material of jeans, and bras in general. As a kid I would freak out when my mom tried to trim my nails. I understand why you don't want to say OCD, I feel the same and usually just say "compulsive tendencies" or "sensory issues". Also, never feel bad for choosing not to look at the news. It's an endless cycle of horrible things happening. I try to avoid thinking about negative things in the world just in general, especially when it's things I know I can't do anything to fix. Nothing wrong with focusing on your own mental health! 💜

I totally get your ability to push love out of your body towards others. If I had to describe it, it's like a sonar wave or echo or the circles of a water droplet. I like to think I can send it to loved ones when they're not near, and often I think about people and they get in touch afterwards. My happiness is definitely smells; candles, wax melts, rain, cut grass smells can totally lift my mood, light too, I'm drawn to it like a moth. The downside to my openness is that I think I can absorb other people's anxiety, worries, and mental pain, so this can be quite exhausting at times.

Thank you so much for sharing these unique traits Maria! Something quirky/interesting about me is that I love the feeling of writing with pen on a piece of paper on top of a surface with fabric on it.... if you know you know!! 😀

Maria, do you ever listen to classical music? You seem like someone who would really appreciate the beauty of it. Listen to a Brahms Symphony, or the Barber Violin Concerto. It will take you to another place! Thank you for sharing about yourself. As a mom of a daughter, I can relate to so many things you said. Wishing you the best!

I can listen to Vivaldi Seasons all day long. It's the most incredible creation, in my opinion. ❤️❤️❤️

I love your chat videos so much, Maria! I listen to them every morning when I go on my walk, so a new chat video from you is such a treat. 😍 I can’t watch the news either, I totally get it. I feel EVERYTHING, the positive and negative, and the debilitating way I feel after exposure to news stories also makes me unable to do anything for myself or others. One food quirk I have is I can’t have soup that’s too soupy, haha! I have to make it like a chili even if it’s not and give it texture (usually with crackers). Or I have to dip my grilled cheese in it - anything to make it more of an experience than feeling like I’m eating a DRINK as a meal. I can’t do it! 😂 Another quirk is how I see lines and dimensions. For any given space in my room or work environment, it must be aligned in some way. I won’t know what that way is until I begin customizing the area, haha! I might organize books tallest to shortest, or group circles together (like candles and cups), or I’ll choose a color palette. But in some way, there must be alignment to the space. It helps me focus and feel calm and energized when there’s spatial balance - it makes my brain function better. 😂

I was also told I have obsessive compulsive tendencies. It’s definitely not OCD, but there are things that set you off. Like I used to absolutely _lose my sh*t_ when my mom would go into my closet and mess up my hangers by pushing them too close together. It was like the end of the world. I would cry. I would get so angry. They had to be perfectly spaced apart and I did not let anyone touch my closet. One time she purposely shoved everything to one side and I screamed. It’s stuff like that. It’s not impacting my day to day, but I need things to be a very specific way and I will not be able to stop thinking about it. Or like locking my car three times even though I know I locked it but I have to press the button again just in case. I have ADHD though so getting obsessive is definitely part of that.

Such a kind soul Maria, thank you so much for sharing and confirming how you send love trough the camera cus it does feel! The way you share your vision and good vibes are so unique, real and honest, ilyyyyyyyyy ❤❤❤❤❤❤

When you mentioned pushing out warmth and love, I feel that in your videos. It also surprised me cause it's something that I really try to do to when I hug someone or pet my dog or anything. Just really focus on the energy and I think it's felt. ♥

I can relate to a lot of things you said, including the carboard/ sensory issues, getting cold, getting very emotional, obsessive etc. Have you looked into the concept of Highly Sensitive Person? It's a term created by a psychologist that posits that around 20% of people process sensory inputs more deeply on a brain level (there's more to it, I don't know if I explain well). It helped me understand a lot about myself and be able to deal with moments where I get overwhelmed with more self-compassion. Highly sensitive people share a lot of traits in common with people with autism but there are a lot of differences between the two, especially on a social level. When I was younger I always thought I had autism as I always felt different. There are some bad parts of it, but overall I find it a blessing to be sensitive :)

Ooohhhh… I feel like I may have this.. or maybe it’s my adhd? lol idk. There are so many overlaps!
@HallieWoodАй бұрын
Wow, I just wrote a post on here about the same thing. I am a “highly sensitive person”, but definitely not autistic and don’t have any social struggles. I just have an extremely high level of empathy, sensitivity, etc.

Maria. I am not one to comment very often, but just wanted to say a massive thanks for your thoughts and insights on this channel and also for your ASMR content too! I find it helps me relax in a way I find hard any other way. We have also moved to a foreign country (UK to Portugal) and can empathise and ‘get’ what you so eloquently put! ❤

Thank you so much for sharing this. We all have our quirks, and I related to a lot of this! I'm always cold, I definitely have perfectionist tendencies, I'm very empathetic and cry easily from movies, music, anything moving, and I'm also really with you on the news philosophy. I've been watching you for 9 years, and thank you for just being you! ❤

Yes totally! I could really relate to it as a late diagnosed autistic woman.

@@jessitschu1015may I ask how you were diagnosed late? I'm 29 and mentioned this to my psychiatrist and they offered me names and address to places for screening. I just haven't called but I know I have it. Also wondering if it's worth a diagnosis or if self-diagnosing is good enough. I'm just scared to not be validated in what I know is true about me

@jujimarsАй бұрын
Masha!! Thank you for sharing these! I related to a lot, especially your emotion based ones. You asked to share some of ours, so here goes!❤ 1. Ever since I was a kid, I loved book textures and DVD case textures. I would also load up tons of books on the couch with me or in my bed and stack them and re-stack them over and over, feel them, etc! 2. My teeth has an underlap in one spot, and I like clicking my finger nail over that intersection. I don’t know if it’s a compulsive need to adjust it, or if I just like how it feels/ the sound? But I also do it more so when I am anxious. 3. Sometimes I open up word docs and just type away- usually lists- in a font that looks like handwriting. To me it’s super satisfying, and it calms my brain. 4. I re-watch things more than I explore new content. Unless I have heard amazing things about something or am so excited to see something, I usually always re-watch things I’ve seen before! Maybe because at the end of the day I don’t want to focus on anything new! 5. I am fantastic about picking up new instruments. 6. I ALSO get obsessive about things and perfectionism. I fall down into rabbit holes of interest almost out of nowhere sometimes. Sometimes it’s hard to climb out of those subjects. 7. I can not sit on a couch without a blanket over my legs and feet. Even in summer! 8. It seems like my moods are worse in even numbered years… I honestly want to figure out if my brain is on some kind of clock, or if that’s possible. 9. I consider myself Catholic but I bet a lot of Catholics would say I am a bad one. I have faith, but struggle with a lot of what I’m told about it. I am too Christ based for non-Christians, but not as “Christianish” to feel like I fit in at church groups. I also have too liberal of views to feel conservative, but too conservative to feel liberal. 10. I have a handful of people in my life where I admire their views so much that they could literally recommend ANYTHING and I’ll be influenced to do it too! Like if they share a book they read, a movie they’ve watched, or a skincare product. Sometimes I just trust these people to know what the heck they’re talking about and I want to try too…. I try to keep it a secret so they don’t feel like I’m stalking them though!! 11. I am a lot of things, but sometimes I’ll get a particular emotion or sensation, and I’ll be like “THIS is the real me, I’d like to feel this always.” I can’t explain it.

Hi! Just wanted to say really quickly that I 100% agree with not watching the news because it's too much, there other ways to stay aware of current events! I'm the exact same way. Also I see a lot of comments about being neurodivergent and I just wanted to let you know that I am not divergent and I related to a lot of this as well! I do have OCD tendencies though.

I love your perfectionism. You did a video years, if not decades ago, where you were neatly stacking jenga blocks and I was mesmerized. It reminded me of watching girls in school doing the same thing, lining up pencils, making everything on their desk perfect. I was such a chaotic, emotional, bad kid and watching those girls with their perfectionist habits was the only time my brain was ever quiet.

I relate so much to you and your personality! I'm ultra sensitive to things as well, and have a more extreme emotional response to the news, negative stories, etc. I used to be an avid true crime story watcher on TV but, since experiencing many losses in a short period of time of loved ones, I can't watch true crime anymore. I place myself in the families' shoes and become depressed. You are a dear soul, I wish I knew you in real life! I guess a funny quirk about me is whenever I drink soda, I have to swish it in my mouth a certain way before I can swallow it 😄

The last personality trait , you remind me of myself. I used to be so passionate about love - platonic or romantic. I've been so hurt that I've lost myself and it bothers me...but am in my healing journey and I can feel and see myself coming back to myself. I love it so much , slow process but the healing is happening. Thank you for sharing! 💛.

Crying and having all the feels is actually a fantastic way of "feeling your emotions" which is the goal of emotional healing. Being able to cry or feel/give love means you are emotionally stable and have reached the pinnacle emotional healing state. All our lives we bury our emotions and they leak out in other ways like pain in our bodies, chronic disease, shame, depression, and similar. Be proud that you have reached this level of emotional healing and you can express it, we should all try to reach this state 🥰❤

Oh what a wonderfully charming video! I am so similar. I’m a girl who runs cold but likes lukewarm things too! I always dump out coffee filled too high to be able to add water to it and I add ice to my ramen. And I’ve always needed everything to be in “order,” or lined up, usually perfectly square to each other. And weirdly the volume level has to be in increments of 5 only 🤷🏼♀️ People are so funny and interesting! I’m a crier too, especially worse now that I’m a mom. I always cry watching the Olympics and whenever I reach the top of a mountain when I’m hiking. Life is so beautiful - because of that it’s always felt emotionally heavy to me.
