You're good! This doesn't seem materialistic to me. I was never taught makeup properly growing up, so it took years of trying new products (still doing it somewhat) to find the right ones. Now that I've identified what works for me, that's it. So you're fine!!! Exploration is healthy in my opinion. And yay on your mom visiting!!!! Also good on you for a social media hiatus. I felt so much better once I cut out social media.

I feel like the 'materialistic' KZbin videos that are just about products are somehow comforting precisely because they are not too deep, but they still capture my interest. I like watching these kind of videos sometimes to unwind. Also I've learned about a few products I really like and continue to use that way. So, truly, I appreciate these types of videos a lot!

Maria, for a cleanser that removes make up easily, you should try out oil cleansers. They melt away your makeup quickly and after that, you can use your normal cleanser that you like in order to actually clean your face (I recommend Caudalie's make-up removing cleansing oil from Sephora !)

@Barney Rubble you shouldnt wash your face with sugar thats way too harsh on your skin
@everebecca9868
@everebecca9868 3 жыл бұрын
@Barney Rubble it doesnt matter if its sugar or salt its the texture thats the problem, its far too harsh for the delicate skin on your face especially twice a day and could end up making small tears in the skin and causing more harm than good!! Even if you dont have sensitive skin or you mix it with something else it still has the same damaging effect over time. No hate im just trying to help!! I thought it was a well known thing that using pure sugar/sugar scrubs were bad for your skin

maria, have you heard about "highly sensitive person" or "sensory processing sensitivity"? a HSP is someone who is very sensitive about their surroundings, meaning, they notice delicate or fine scents, tastes, *sounds*, they get easily overwhelmed by such things as bright lights, strong smells, or sirens, they also need to withdraw during busy days so they can have privacy and relief, among other traits. and because our body and skin tell us what's happening inside us, a HSP could also have sensitive skin. I myself am a HSP and my skin has always been super sensitive. I cannot wear cosmetics with fragrance on them, it's just not for me. but anyways, I thought you might like knowing this. there's a book about HSP written by Elaine Aron and there are some other researches as well. :) btw, loved to hear that you are going for a more minimalistic lifestyle, I couldn't agree more, this is what we and the planet need right now.

ok I'm late but I really like the exploratory videos, I don't think they're materialistic at all! I think we all go through times where we are trying to find new products, whether it's skincare or clothing, because these things make us feel more comfortable, more confident, more ourselves, or whatever. And it's fun to go through that with you! I like taking your pointers and feeling motivated by the changes your making.

My favorite skincare brand is Paula's Choice. Everything is fragrance-free, and they have a huuuge amount of information on their websites about their ingredients along with links to the science to back up their choices. They have an oil cleanser that my friends have said are good at removing make-up.

Eye creams are just moisturizers put in a small bottles. It is the same thing. Except in the case of vitamin C. Most vitamin c products are NOT for the upper eye lid. You would need an eye safe one for that. I use my vitamin C during the day to help with free radicals, retinol or other serums at night.

Eye creams are just small moisturisers but some people have a different skin type on their eyelids. Eyelid skin can be oilier or drier and the eye and undereye might need some special ingredients like caffeine to brighten,or retinol if you don’t want to put retinol on your whole face.

I've bought a few things based on things you've said you've liked (whether here or as part of your asmr tutorials/etc), and they have generally been great for me as well :) as someone who also is trying to find the perfect routines and "holy grails" - I fully support these videos and don't find them materialistic at all! Great idea! Some small tips I've heard in general are use moisturizing gloves at night and put sunscreen on your hands when you are outside. On a TV show they introduced a lady, as an example, with one hand that had visibly aged worse then the other (with sunspots etc.) and it was due to her wearing one Swing Glove while she played golf for hours. The hand that did not have the Swing Glove for protection, was the hand that was really badly sun damaged. The show recommended using sunscreen on the hands as you do your face to prevent this :)

Dear Maria, Me and my two best friends (all with different skin types) SWEAR on the Sunscreen from Paula's Choice. It's incredible! First the texture is so light in your skin and does not feel oily at all. Secondly a small tube will last for months even tough I am using it every day. It's quite expensive (I am from Europe so I don't know the US price& shipping conditions). But since I am also trying to be a more mindful consumer, I am using it because it''s cruelty free & has no harmful or irritating ingredients. I am in my late 20s, so maybe this product could be useful for you too! I hope you will notice this comment & it will be helpful. I am watching your videos for at least 7 years now (I started with the paper plane video I think haha). Thank you so much for all you do for us😊❤

I recently started exploring higher end products too, and I’ve noticed I waste less and am much more intentional about what I’m buying. I find many of my higher quality products last much longer than the cheaper options I’d used and was never satisfied with in the past. I would buy a lot more products just because I hadn’t found “the one” yet. Really inspiring to watch your journey and hear your thoughts on self care and such. I’ve been watching your videos for years now and am more and more impressed with your content as the years go on! Keep it up! ❤️

I completely understand and identify with you when you said that you were frugal and bought things that were cheap but less quality.... I went through same thing when I was living in another country, I had no money and all that I earned went to my college fee and rent and food. So I learned to be extremely frugal.... Then after getting married , and having a better job I had the same pattern of unconsciousnessly being over frugal where at one point I thought that's enough... I do not have to live boarder line.. I can get better things and good food for myself and my family. So I changed my wardrobe slowly , I upgraded the way I work, I started using quality language with my kids cz I was raised in lower middle class family where yelling and cursing was common, I started spending money on books and preferred quality in everything.... I try my utmost best to incorporate quality in everything I do....even the mundane things...and that has brought my satisfaction and learning that old you cannot serve the new you.

I highly suggest using an oil cleanser and then following up with a “regular” or foaming cleanser. The oil cleanser breaks down oil-based products on your face including sunscreen, and the foaming cleanser will remove water-based impurities. It’s the most effective way to totally cleanse your skin if you’re wearing makeup and sunscreen!

Maria, when you mentioned that you were researching a "minimalist" lifestyle, I totally clicked with you on that one. With that said, I always told myself that "less is more, and more is less", which means that you can always have more when it's necessary, so don't buy or have too much to the point where you get stressed out and overwhelmed. And I'm really proud to say that I decluttered my room within the span of two hours with my mom and since then I have felt this sense of freedom and relief that I am no longer in a pit of clutter and piles of X, Y, and Z. Furthermore, don't feel bad for not posting in a while on social media because I haven't done so in a while either. You're not the only one and no, it isn't sad that you don't want to come back yet. And that is OK. Take all the time you need to focus on yourself and your family. Be well Maria! ✨

About the cleansers and makeup. The way it works is first an oil based cleanser (a balm or an oil to milk cleanser) that melts the makeup then a water based cleanser that washes all of that away. Hope that helps 😊 If you're interested in learning about good skincare I would suggest Liah Yoo, Hyram or Susan Yara, to begin with. I promise you'll learn good stuff from them ❤️

Hi Maria, First of all, I want to thank you so much for the work that you do!!! I discovered that ASMR was a real "thing" only a few months ago. I am a Reiki practitioner and while looking on line for a remote Reiki session, stumbled across someone who does ASMR style Reiki by proxy. Then I looked up ASMR and found a wonderful woman called Latte, whose videos I thoroughly enjoy. She mentioned you in one of her videos as her inspiration, and that's how I found you. I love everything you do! You are so welcoming, comforting and interesting, and I want to thank you for easing my anxiety especially during these crazy times. I totally understand where you're coming from regarding unplugging from social media. I've been doing the same thing and have been enjoying life so much more, taking time to stop and smell the roses and take better care of myself. I highly recommended reconnecting with the world again in a more authentic way. It is possible, even during this pandemic. Great news about your Mom coming to visit. Enjoy! Happy Holidays to you and your family. 💖Love and Light, Marianne

I SO want to get you started on a K-beauty skincare routine. You would ADORE the products, simplicity, and quality of ingredients, not to mention how well they work. I've been using Korean skincare for several years and I will never go back to using anything else.

You don't have to justify your purchases to the world, you are not wasteful and you expend in self care. You also don't have to justify your minimalist journey, what matters is the mindset and the steps you take towards it. It's a journey and it's different for everyone. Ive been working on it for like 5 years and still have a lot of room for improvement 💕

So great to see you here Masha!! You’re not missing anything on Facebook and IG. I also took a 2.5 or 3 week break from fb, and I instantly regretted it when I returned. I’m thinking of going back on next month just to wish people a happy Thanksgiving. Not a minute sooner lol. Stay well and enjoy your time with your mom!! 💖 I hope sweet Mila is feeling better soon. 🙏🏾🤗

Not an ad but bioderma micellar water will remove any eye makeup 100% and not leave your eye skin dry. Might solve two of the problems you mentioned. Love it.

Yay for your mom coming!! For skincare, I highly recommend Dermalogica! Ive been using them for so many years and my skin loves it. They have an amazing cleanser and they have many sunscreens and none of them leave a white cast or gross feel.

Girl I feel you on unplugging from social media. It has done me a world of good. It allows me to focus on improving myself and see the ugly things in the world so much less often. Enjoy your visit with your momma. I hope little Mila feels better soon! ❤

I found out I was allergic to artificial fragrance in 2017, and slowly but surely switched all my skin/body, hair, and face products to fragrance free items. It has been SO beneficial for my super dry, eczema skin! I would recommend that anyone with sensitive skin stops using all fragrances, including perfumes that aren’t just essential oils.

I gave up FB a few years ago and finally got rid of Instagram at the beginning of quarantine and I feel free! I don't even miss it! Please don't feel badly for not posting on social media as much, it's all up to how you're feeling 😊

Maria, you should totally look into Korean sunscreens! They have incredible formulas that are so ahead of the game compared to US sunscreens. The Purito Centella Unscented Sunscreen is incredible and has a huge following. It's a mineral sunscreen that feels more like a moisturizer, leaves absolutely no white cast, and you can't even feel it on your skin a few minutes after putting it on. Holy grail product!!

I left instagram in October of 2019 and I will never go back. It was so mad for my mental well being and I am absolutely happier away from it. I use Twitter to keep connected with friends and fb messenger to talk but otherwise avoid social media as much as possible. Not weird at all, we're learning how to navigate a completely plugged in world!

Teething recommendation: frozen grapes. They don’t freeze solid like ice, so you can still cut them in half or quarters and they feel SO GOOD on the gums. I used this for my babies and even myself when my dental work went wrong.

I could feel the weight of emotion as you shared about your baby being in such pain. Although it seems like nothing it is so much for her.
