Danzo is a warhawk, the corruption of shinobi made manifest, the darkness within each shinobi and he sees it as his duty to do the things others see as underhanded. Yet, in his own messed up way, he is a true shinobi. He could have had a family like Hiruzen. He could have taken students. He could have walked in the light, but he carried all the darkness of the village with him, took the sins on his concious so the Hokage wouldn't have to do it. He was a monster no doubt, but he became a monster so others wouldn't have to. Even though he saw Naruto as a weapon, he would not mistreat him like the villagers, since he saw all shinobi as tools and it warped his view of the world. His mistake, in creation of the Root, was in trying to become the fire of the village as well. The Hokage must be the one to love and cherish the village, from the child left orphan straight after they are born, to the next pampered clanhead. He left all of that when he created Root, to act with logic and efficiency. I think he tried to be as Tobirama was, the genius 2nd Hokage, who on the outside was cold and logical. What he didn't see was what Tobirama was underneath the underneath, someone who had a loving family to drive them forward, someone who was flustered by his brother, who would comically yell at a 16 year old for them claiming a jutsu as their own, who would recognize that same 16 year old as hokage material almost imediattely after and compare them to his own brother. He had the potential to be Hokage, everyone does. He just abandoned it without knowing.

I have to admit I cried a bit at Danzos death scene, he was a bad guy through and through and he's one of the few few Naruto villains to never be redeemed. I am honestly a bit ashamed I did since no one else seems to have but like in the end it seems Danzo really did do the shit he did for the sake of the village at least in his warped mind. I honestly thought his death would have been just straight forward death I had no idea they were gonna try to humanize Danzo of all people.

Agreed. But we gotta remember, naruto isn't great at weaving hand signs, and he definitely isn't adept enough at this point to really know how to use wind style. So even when comparatively speaking, he’s still not weak nor less skillful than his peers (or at-least by large margin).

hero ?? he was no hero my friend, he inherited tobirama's extremism towards the uchihas which made him consider the whole clan a threat with no clear reasons why, he was harsh with most clans but he knew deep down the uchihas were the clan to be aware of so instead of including them in the village's affairs, he kept alienating them so much that they planned a coup to reclaim their place in the village and the respect they deserve. there is no doubt that danzo is behind the uchiha's coup, the uchiha were always considered an honorable clan of the village but thanks to danzo and hiruzen's lack of assertiveness, the uchihas were driven to the outskirts of the village under the silly argument that they should be close to the ninja prison, and they were being monitored by the anbu 24/7, so u could basically say that the uchiha tragedy was caused by danzo's extremism, u should also know that danzo convinced hanzo for some fucked up reason that yahiko's akatsuki were a bunch of rogue ninjas who wanted power to rule the hidden rain , which resulted in hanzo causing yahiko's death and the inception of obito's akatsuki, just by these two exemples, u can conclude that anything danzo touches, it usually ends with death and suffering.

@@ghost245353 very true, it is quite unfortunate and sad to know that a man who lets prejudice cloud his actions and judgement was ever considered for the position of second hokage, but whats even worse is hiruzen's lack of assertivness during the uchiha coup. he knew for A FACT that danzo hated the uchihas from his core, and that he was ready to do anything to wipe them out, but he stood there and asked children (itachi and shisui) to solve the problem, he knew deep inside that the elders of konoha didnt care enough abt the uchiha and he just did nothing, its unbelievable how hiruzen failed to connect the dots and understand that this was all caused by danzo and excecute him for this

However, they could have told the third Hokage immediately. It made no sense why they didn't especially because Itachi knew what the elders wanted to do. If Hiruzen did nothing AFTER he was told, then there is no way the elders and hokage would not look like the villains in the eyes of the readers/viewers. Hashirama was right. Tobirama exiling the Uchiha to the edge of the village would only raise tension between the two clans. The proof of his racism was made evident the in next generation (Hiruzen, Danzo, etc.).
