Hey sas and aaron!! that was so fun watching both of you trying new thing🤣 the flavor that you chose for the hotpot was Mala which is numbing spice, it came out from the Sichuan peppercorn, which is essential ingredient for this dish. Mala flavor is so popular around China, almost in every instant noodle, hotpot, other dishes, u name it, you can find it everywhere. I hated mala flovor before because of the numbness it brought, but the more i try it, the more I love it, it does give you a kick, and eventually you want it more and more. Just like chili 🌶😂

You guys did nothing wrong! The cooking went all right, maybe you should put a little more water in the noodles, but generally it's perfectly done. You're maybe just not used to the "mala", which's a classic Sichuan flavor: prickly spicy, because of the Chinese prickly peppers in the sauce which make your tongue go numb. That's pretty normal, and it indeed is an acquired taste. And yeah, Sas's is the pork one, Aaron's is the beef one, according to the packaging.

Oh and it does get salty because of the sauce is way too flavorful, so a lot of people have this as a side dish to rice to tune down the saltiness and spiciness.

My advice is (you shouldn’t put all the sauce in if you don’t like spicy and thick broth just put half of it ) half of it is spicy too. And you should put more water to cover all the staff in there. I ate that kind of hot pot a lots and this is my experience . And if you see the Sichuan pepper corn in there , don’t eat it because it will make your mouth numb.❤️🫶
