@@justarandomguy3969 sas max is 2x sata max, because sata can send signals unidirectionally while sas is bidirectional, it's same cable but the sender/receiver device is different technology, and also sas supports sata drives as well, it's "backwards compatible" to SATA

SAS cables support emerging data storage technologies. SAS: Uses SFF connectors. Is compatible with SATA drives that can be connected to an SAS controller. Has SAS-4 with throughput up to 22.5 Gbps, full duplex. Has a hot-pluggable connection. Uses expanders to daisy chain up to 65,535 devices. Terminate the last device.

SATA can only read or write. One way processing only. SAS work simultaneously both read/write - two way processing. This is not most important difference.

I really enjoyed the explanation of the SATA and m.2 drives. I hadn't heard of the SAS so that was a new one for me. One thing I did notice after doing a lot of research is that for gaming, unless you're using a mechanical hard drive, the load times between SATA, m.2 Gen 3, and m.2 Gen 4 really weren't that big a difference, a few seconds or less in most cases.

SAS is exponentially more expensive it's $285 for a SAS adapter vs $20 for a SATA😭 and SAS is for enterprise I think I have a 4tb SATA barracuda for my ps4 but I have an 18tb exos SAS but I am not spending almost $300 to try to use that and even seagate admitted they aren't sure if it'll work on my PlayStation 😢
@Dante-42010 ай бұрын
@@dimagass7801indeed! Price was the most shocking thing to me when I learned about SAS! You can save quite a few bucks by buying and connecting SATA drives to SAS controllers though! I would only bother in a server though, definitely not a playstation!
@khanyisanisikhakhane40year2310 ай бұрын
@dimagass7801 you won't even be able to take advantage of the sas speeds through a converter.
@FirstnameLastname-py3bc Жыл бұрын
Eh man you could have said a lot more about SAS. SAS is SATA on steroids (SAS has same connector, supports SATA drives too, is on paper exactly 2x faster than SATA because SATA can send signal either up or down, not both at the same time, but SAS is bidirectional, can have full 600MB up and 600MB down at the same time, but not above 600MB; SAS cable standard supports a way longer length cables but nowadays I have seen up to 1 meter SATA cables too) SAS drives have higher security and preservation standard, i.e longevity and error correction is more advanced). Price being higher is only because of its use market - enterprise, where clients opt for more reliability and willing to pay ten times more for it. If it was as popular as SATA it would have been as cheap.

SAS and Sata are the exact same size. You can fit just as many sata drives in a pc as sas drives. The number of ports you get is determined by your motherboard or your expansion card.

SATA and PCIe are not comparable. SATA is a connector, of which the protocol is AHCI. PCIe is a protocol, on which another protocol called NVMe runs. NVMe normally uses an M.2 connector / form factor. A more fitting video title would be "SATA vs. SAS vs. M.2 NVMe".
