This clip makes us feel privileged, proud and "holier-than-Lily" that we in our childhood didn't possess the insensitivity of the morbid lily that can compel even the otherwise jocund Charlotte to cry profusely and Carrie on the other end of the phone, quite oblivious of this even now, "jilted at 40".
Lily's "Red Scare" manages to out-brat the sassy Ms. Jenny Briar ( • SATC HD | Hot Child in... ) and the inane Master Simon Cobb, emerging as the most innocent villain-child of all times. We can only empathize with her for "The Scarlet and the White" situation Charlotte is mired in. Thanks be to god that the bra-less nanny, Erin, comes to her rescue like a Catholic priestess and takes the little imps of mischief under her wing, saving Mrs. Goldenblatt, from the floral trouble.

I really don’t believe Charlotte is crying over the skirt. She’s overwhelmed. Rose is crying all the time and Lily obviously wanted attention as well. Being an older sibling myself I can remember wanting attention when my mom was focusing so much on my baby sister. Charlotte is legit at her wit’s end. She’s trying to be the perfect mom and she can’t. Yea she was upset about the skirt but I really don’t believe it would have been that big of a deal if the situation wasn’t so stressful. Plus worrying about Harry and the nanny…Lord, I’m surprised she kept her cool as long as she did.

First of all these women are characteristically obsessed with fashion and go out for groceries in $10,000 dollar skirts. It's a very old money thing to do. Secondly, she was already feeling insecure about her nanny so maybe she wanted to feel beautiful? But being a mother and being simultaneously perfect to look at is an impossible struggle which is what brought about the breakdown. It was very natural.

She was happy to hang up on Carrie after it happened, she should have hung up on her before. This wasn't the kid's fault, it was Charlotte's. Yelling at your kid over something that is your own fault is bad parenting, mother or father. Good parenting is usually about very simple decisions, like not setting your kid up with a massive pot of wet red paint while you're otherwise distracted and there's not a lot of space available.

Not true, I would judge a father just the same. I actually judge mom's less, because mom's usually understand their kids, they just yell when they're overwhelmed, whereas dad's don't even understand their kids. Lilly wasn't being bad in my opinion, she was just trying to get her mother's attention, she kept saying, 'Mommy, mommy!' and when she didn't get answered she acted out which is what kids do. I don't judge Charlotte either, she was trying to tell her kid one minute patiently while trying to juggle a screaming toddler, a stressful phone conversation, and making cupcakes. And she tried to calm down after her outburst.

Let me just say this, as a stay at home mom my hair is not perfect, my clothes aren't perfect, and my hair is sometimes up in a ponytail. Though I liked this scenario of Charlotte becoming overwhelmed because at that moment, she realized she had gotten what she always wanted. A family. She struggled with infertility for the longest time, they adopted Lily and then had baby Rose. She got mad at Lily for ruining her skirt and needed a moment. Personally I don't wear designer clothes, but the think the scene was very significant. Charlotte at that point was a real mom with real kids managing the house hold baking cupcakes for her daughters class I believe and talking on the phone. Basically multi tasking. At that point she felt like she had failed as a mother. I've had mommy moments like that myself. We women just need that moment. Charlotte did start yelling at Lily but she stopped herself to realize she just needed to step away.

The whole scene was pretty stupid - shes wearing a vintage skirt even though shes baking and looking after two screaming children, one of whom is painting. Why is she even juggling all of that at the same time? The cupcakes can wait, deal with your screaming baby first. And WHY oh why would you decide that NOW is the right time to phone your friend? Was she not doing enough?? Some mothers just love to make life very difficult for themselves.

What I think happened is Erin the nanny usually is watching the kids while Charlotte can do other duties of a stay at home mom; fashion is an important part of Charlottes image so she doesnt seem to want to sacrifice that and dresses how she likes, and it seems as though Erin was retuning from a break which would explain why Charlotte was juggling so much, when she found Charlotte in the Pantry.
