I’d love to see these other techniques too! Excellent vid, and I’ve subscribed in the hopes you do make them. I love this idea of thinking of the blueprints as a machine themselves and not as a collection of smaller machines. They abstract away the details.

Hey man I just wanted to swing by this video again and tell you how thankful I am for it. I've been finding myself frustrated with how to design my factories and stuff. I like a bit of form on top of brutal function. Put on my designs end up not being easily stackable or somewhat cumbersome in large scales. After I watch this video I've taken a step back and re-examine my design philosophy I found myself really liking this way of designing. I tested it out while trying to redesign my large-scale pure iron ingot factory. Not only do I really like the aesthetic of it, it feels so goddamn satisfying to line all these things up next to each other without having to touch it and just stacking on top with minimal effort. If you set up all the piping and shit correctly it barely takes any time at all the string all these together. I doubt I'll use it for everything, but I think this type of design styles going to stick around in my repertoire for quite a while. Besides, there's nothing wrong with amor industrial aesthetic.

Holy moly! You have great energy AND great ideas!!! Thank you so very much! You should ™ "Get your lazy belts up off the floor" Now, if you could only teach me / others to think like you... I need more, man! I am old, slow and nearly senile, but...more please!!!!! The energy you have is exhausting (because I am the polar opposite) but I love it! More compact! More off the floor! More anything! Do you ever make compact processes like Adaptive Control Modules or the like? I don't know, maybe that can't be a thing... I would really like to see a general overview of your world with separate detailed videos of components with explanations of how and why you chose to do it that way. But, only do what you feel up to. I don't want to overwhelm you or anything. If it isn't fun, it isn't worth it. But seriously, thank you for sharing, it is great stuff!!!!

Hey no worries, I actually learned to slow down my delivery when I was a teenager by recording myself. I go a bit fast because I'm trying to pack in as much as possible. KZbin has a video speed feature you can use if it helps :) And yes, anything you put in a manufacturer can work with this system too, but you can only fit 2 machines in the Mk1 designer. Maybe I can get something bigger in the Mk2 or Mk3, I haven't used them yet. I really like that design becase the frame is entirely made of beams which look really beefy and industrial.

My design is much simpler, just 4 constructors on the left and 4 on the right, the input faces the outside and output inside, input side is fed with a sinple manifold and output also merges into a manifold, and each floor's manifold is also connected to the next floors manifold with elevators and reverse the direction

Could you save the splitter/merger stack to a blueprint for easier use in other blueprints, or will the connections not work?
@excrubulent
@excrubulent 2 күн бұрын
The stack absolutely would work in a blueprint. The reason I don't use blueprints for that is because usually it's more work to position them than to build them from scratch, and there's actually a bunch of different orientation possibilities that would make blueprints hard to use in this context. Like each input position in the triple stack is specific to this build, and both stacks are mirrored.

I also hope they one day add a management console that can display relevant data for buildings/nodes that can be upgraded to entire factories and zones later. Like a separate wiring that is just logical. Maybe even short range IR at first to a wifi type LAN to a MAN when fully upgraded.

@Jarnis-v1c

Nice creative "abuse" of the game as it allows this type of clipping parts, but frankly I find the solution to compactify things to be slightly cheaty. The general idea of modular blueprints for easy scaling is still quite valid. If only the blueprint machine was larger to start with, and if only blueprints were easier to link to each other without having to effectively link each stamp of the blueprint manually. On the other hand, I understand the developers are hesitant to turn the whole thing into stamping of huge prebuilt blueprint chunks (similar to how Factorio and Dyson Sphere Program tends to become late-game)
@homtherobot
@homtherobot 2 күн бұрын
@@Jarnis-v1c just curious, why do you find the compact part cheaty? In my mind it's the same level of cheating as any other blueprint (i.e. not cheating at all). I understand it exploits some game mechanics but the outcome really isn't that huge of an advantage. The game world is huge and space is plentiful. Nothing stopping you from just dropping two regular 4x smelter blueprints side by side to get an 8x.
