There's an important distinction between "breaking a save" and "ruining production lines." Coffee Stain have repeatedly said that old saves will load in 1.0. They've also said that many factories will no longer run exactly the same because they are rebalancing the recipes. A single recipe change to something like steel beams has a massive domino effect. Beacons are the least worrisome to me. Snutt on a Q&A stream said they'll likely be replace with another single-item input. Tear down the beacon factory and replace it with Rotors (or w/e) and you're good. Notably, all that ignores whatever the story will bring.

very true, but once people start playing 1.0 and loading in old saves it will be like continuing in a different game altogether. like being half way through the main story and not know what is going on. and while everything will be different and they have to reevaluate there entire factory it might just break the person even if the save loads. Might just be kinder for everybody to start a new save.

@@Slipgatex lol imagine it does for some odd reason, like the store aspect makes the old saves unplayable. that would end up terrible and funny. but yeah your right. i mean even when they added in pipes and changed the landscape the saves were "playable" but at what cost. everyone just had to start a new save anyway because it was much easier than trying to fix it. i feel like this is hte same but on a bigger scale as more people have had more time with the game since an update like that and had more things to build.

Yes your old saves will load but Coffee Stain did say that some nodes will be changed/transferred elsewhere, they also said that certain recipes have changed. Will it break your 20+ hours save probably not, will it break your 50+ hour saves most probably

@@HelloWorld-kp1rn That's the same semantics issue my original comment was talking about. IMO, a save that loads isn't "broken." All the nodes could be moved and most recipes changed, but you'll still be able to get in there and fix it by hand.

After they announce 1.0 I just froze my save and stop playing anymore until 1.0. And I plan to start a fresh start after 1.0 released

i have assumed everything will start from scratch from day 1. instead of focusing on a mega project i instead focus on developing a style to my support buildings, practising how to setup my inputs and doing a lot of blueprinting of things like roads, and infrastructure. the new stuff is going to throw all kinds of wrenches in to plans so its best to focus on perfecting your early factory layout and how you scale outwards.

I am a new player and this is what I am also doing. I still do not have my blueprints how I want them, and keep rethinking them to future proof then a little for bigger factories. I am also half-heartedly doing the items for levels 5 and 6 in the hub and have not yet done oil or plastic but plastic and rubber are the only things I need to finish 5 and 6. This weekend I will probably build my first oil factory.... or not...

My "genesis" save with elevated rail loop around the map, plus a decent output coal power plant with everything (current) in the game unlocked and a shit ton of items in storage containers will mostly be fine with exception of any map changes that affect my rails. I created this save for the purpose of having in essence a "creative" mode save more or less where I had done the unlocking work. Of course with 1.0 I'll also be starting fresh game. Have only dabbled a little since updates 7 and 8 to check if all remained unlocked, etc. Can't wait for full release. Hoping by end of summer.

absolutely, i really hope before august but im still wondering if they will push it as far into 2024 as they can. My plan is a total new save, no mods, and massive creative builds. Cant wait to sink my full life into this lol

Whenever there is a major update, it usually is a good idea to start a new save. If you feel you can't be bothered to do it all again, then there's something wrong with the game design.

This is just a clickbait video. 1.0 will not break your save, as in you wont be able to load it anymore. Yes you might have to fix things that could take a significant amount of time but thats not breaking your save.

true, but none of the updates ever really broke our saves... even the one they told us would. Its just an over simplification of the fact that 1.0 will have you do a lot work to make your game playable in the new version with everything your going to have to change and fix.

Its the same as when they said pipes would break the game or when they redid the spira coast. it's just meant to get people prepared for what will come when 1.0 hits that's all.

I would argue, if you’re mid-late game… it does break your game… it’s by varying degrees, given. But every damn KZbin video is clickbait these days, I wouldn’t call this one dishonest though. Nodes are going to move, change purity, be added underneath areas you may have already built, or straight up been removed. Pretty breaking if you ask me. Considering a recipe rebalance is coming, any old save you load will probably have loads of factories that just won't work anymore because the items needed have changed, creating a gargantuan domino effect.

I think, they should do a wipe of saves... everyone starting from the beginning, They won't but it would be prudent... however I agree if you have certain lines it will essentially break your save, due to the overwhelming amount of tear down and rebuild.. meaning 100% reliance on oil and biofuel.. provided they don't change other things.

Even if it doesnt break your save people should really just start a new save. Like said the story aspect is part of all existing production so even the very beginning of the game has changed.

something im going to be a lot more focused on is actually trying to maintain a lot more of the vegetation this time around. the recent news that trucks wont just obliterate it makes the task a lot easier lol. having done a lot of clear cutting i think i prefer the ascetic of having my bases up on stilts above the fauna. post 1.0 i think im going to spend a lot more time stylizing my creations.

Although I am gradually tinkering on my second playthrough, I'll start again. I am not sure how much "story" I need or how it will enrich the experience, but I want to find out. More important to me would me stable servers and Multiplayer support, as this broke the big project of a previous group project when the dedicated server went unstable.

Its not an update if its not breaking your save! Also, someone has made a mod that has the announced 1.0 alt recipe for us to use so we can at least get the factory ready that way if we want (if the manufacture time is the same). Thanks for the video!

I'm happy to have returned to the last phase of the game before 1.0 in my last game, although I arrived at tier 7-8 around 80 hours of play, 50 hours later, I unlocked all the milestones but the items to complete the game have not been automated (worst part is the first one lol). I'm at 150 hours now, I've reorganized a lot of things from the beginning, but I wonder if I'll have time to finish before release. I would like to start again properly with the experience obtained, because even after 800 hours of play, I remain a "normal" player xD

lol yeah i like restarting as well too many times lol. but most dont like losing all there progress and the ones that need to be prepared dont need a wishy washy statement like "well it wont break your game but will mess a bunch of things up" I feel like having them prepped for the worst will make them happy to see it working and more likely to keep going. Biggest killer of players is the motivation killer. Hope this will help them. =)

Yeah I learned so much on my main playthrough. But the mega factory my starter base evolved into over 800 hours will be unplayable in 1.0 and I don't have the heart to tear it down. I'll be doing a new game and playing the campaign as the Devs intended. Maybe someday I'll come back and renovate but it won't be for a while.
