Yes and veterinary dermatologist say it is unnecessary much of the time now. Infact, many ear infections are caused by the inflammation caused by unnecessary plucking of ear hairs.

@@mariebowman2152 not true. It's unnecessary for most dogs. Non-shedding dogs like this shit-zu (I own a poodle) need their hair plucked and cleaned really often to prevent ear infections. I adopted my baby when he was only 5 months old and he had a super bad ear infection which almost made him deaf because he had been neglected, took 3 months to heal. This happens because these dogs have hair even inside the ear canal plus floppy ears which prevents hair circulation

It looks incredibly painful and the dog may whimper in pain and appear traumatised by the end, but it's a necessary evil to remove the inner ear hair and keep the ear canal clear. Doodle hair continues to grow in a fine cotton-like consistency and this is very bad for them. Being so fluffy it traps debris and wax in the ear which can lead to inner ear complications as well as being uncomfortable for the dog and causing your dog to constantly shake its head and scratch its ear which can add to the irritation. Also with their ears being large and drooping over the ear canal this adds to the problems where their inner ears can get stuff trapped in them such as water, ear wax and sweat and can become a breeding ground for bacteria and inner ear infections. Unfortunately these ear issues are caused by selectively breeding this type of dog as well as issues with hair matting, poopy butt, eye weeping, and the likelyhood of them developing arthiritis later in their life. They may be cute to look at but they need constant maintenance to keep their external hair from growing too thick and matting, regular eye cleaning and eye hair trimming to reduce buildup of gunk around the eyes, shaving their butt area so it doesn't get poop stuck to the fur, trimming the fur underneath their paws, and regular ear plucking and checking. A poorly maintained doodle can be a nightmare for groomers to fix.

It’s going to be painful because it’s in the ear canal and dogs have very sensitive canals. It will hurt because the fur is possibly stuck to the canal and was tugging against it.

I had a Gordon Setter X that was prone to yeasty ear infections so I had to rid his ear canal of hair, thankfully his inner ears weren’t too hairy but boy he hated when I cleaned his ears and pulled out the hair! I feel your pain little buddy!

Nope that’s kinda all there is. You could maybe trim them with scissors/shears but the hair could fall down the canal or worse it could cut the delicate tissue. If you use an ear powder and catch it earlier than this it hurts less

Well there's this powder stuff that helps loosen the hair that I seen groomers use but it doesn't work that good pulling and yanking it out is the best way that work to make sure u get it out otherwise the dogs ears are just gonna get infected

My wirehair mini Dachshund gets ear hair, So once a week, I make sure to get the long hairs and remove them. I also gently clean his ears. He has yet to ever have an ear infection, and now he doesnt mind me doing it.

In dogs with this hair type it is a necessity to pluck the hair from the ears, all groomers do it. If you don't it is neglecting the hygiene needs of the breed and they are bound to end up with thrush/yeast/fungal infections or bacterial infections. Btw guys, ear powder is to increase grip on the hair not clean the ears. If the hair is not very greasy or covered in debris from infection, you don't always have to use it.

@@elsiefabrick3395 I'm pretty sure it was because a flush will get any cotton fibers that hung around from all that wiping before washed out. I love ear wax removal videos too and audiologists always preach about never sticking q-tips in the ears for a bunch of reasons, one of them being that the cotton bud at the end or fibers from it can get trapped in the canal which could lead to infection.

The groomer is doing her job it's the only way to get the dogs ears and keep them from getting infected so if anyone is to blame for that the dog has to go through this pain its the owners for letting the dogs ears get like that this can be prevented by keeping up with your dogs ears weekly and make sure they are cleaned so the dog won't have to go through this so people stop coming at the groomer like she did anything wrong please

Actually in most recent years ear plucking is no longer recommended due to this ripping of hair out can cause microscopic tears in the ear canal. If bacteria are present it’s possible for it to cause an ear infection in the injured ear. Just like the hair in our ears, the hair in a dog’s ear serves a purpose, among these us that it blocks debris from getting into the ear canal. Cleaning and trimming is enough to keep your dog's ears healthy and if there you think there is a need to resort to a more aggressive treatment then it is recommended this be done ONLY by a veterinarian.

You didn't get a reply... So I will. If your dog doesn't have ear hair, *there is no hair to be removed from the ear* , so he does not need it done. If you own a breed of dog who DOES get ear hair, you only need to get it done if your vet tells you it is necessary to clear an infection within the ear.

Well, while I do not agree with the plucking the ear hairs for cosmetic purposes, I can understand if the hairs themselves are causing health problems ,like being matted or causing the eargunk to not move out of the dog’s ears naturally, then pulling the ear hairs out might make sense. But give the poor pup a painkiller, I wax my legs and can testify that hair pulling of any sort hurts like the dickens.

Appears the pet parents don't pay much attention to grooming in between going to the groomers. Should go to the groomer more often than 6 months if they're not going to do something themselves in between that time frame. Just my opinion.

The powder isn't to clean the ears. It helps to give grip, esp when pulling by hand. The solution is the cleaner.
