Well, if you read the manga, you would learn that in Irie's quest to discover a cure for the Hinamizawa syndrome, he dissected the brain of a live patient. Oh, and he didn't kill himself. He was set up as a suicide after Takano found out that Rika was on to what was about to happen to her and seeking his help.
