That's another thing we have to admire about him. That he never ran away from his mistakes. He always confronted them by facing the consumers directly. No spokepersons. He always talked directly to the consumers, he reduced his own salary 50%, and the other executives's salaries got a 30% cut. He was against lay off employees , he said that an employee won't be able to improve if he or she is always in fear about being lay off sooner or later. For him his employees were important, proof is how he went and helped the team in charge of Smash Bros. Melee with the bugs that otherwise would have ended in the game getting delayed. I saw how he got a lot of criticism about the Wii U, etc. And he took it all, accepting that indeed they made mistakes. That is being a humble person, and a honorable one at that. R.I.P. Some people will sneer at the thought of a CEO of a videogame company not doing the job for money but they need to go google it. The man handed millions of dollars worth of bonuses back when he felt he didn't deliver to fans what they expected, he took a pay cut so that Nintendo employees didn't lose their jobs, he apologised for their E3 2015 showing in a tweet which was from a hospital bed and he worked for the fans until his last day on Earth. Here's a great quote from Genyo Takeda - "The seeds that Mr. Iwata planted would one day grow into flowers that will make people around the world smile.” That flower was Switch and it's just surpassed 130 million hardware sales and is now the third best selling console in history. It needs just 15 million more sales to be the best selling console of all time. Thank you for everything and your final gift Mr.Iwata. RIP.

Here I am in 2020, spending my last day as mayor in New Leaf and it's bittersweet. I know I'll be back some day, but for now I'm preparing to head off toward new horizons. So as a sit down at my town tree one last time, and see all the people who have come and gone over the last 7 years, I can't help but be thankful for all these beautiful memories. And while I know that the developers put their whole hearts of the game, they did it because they respected Mr. Iwata, and knew exactly what he expected. He wasn't unreasonable. He just expected one thing. Fun. And that's what we got. Every single time. I can never repay this man for all the fun he's given me through all these years, and all the hard times his games have gotten me through, or how he inspires me every day to do what I love as a priority and to never settle for anything less than what I want to do with my life. Thank you for so many years of beautiful memories, Mr. Iwata. You will be missed. In your heart you were a gamer, but in my heart you will always be my hero.

Two Years. It's been almost two years since you've been gone, yet the gaming world goes on and on. Soldiering on through an endless fight, some games successes, the others not quite right. Yet one thing still remains tried and true, we never have forgotten you. The man who kept a company alive, cut his own paycheck to help them survive. Who had an idea for a new kind of machine, one with which you play along with a touchscreen. Brought forth an evolution in how we game, changing some rules, yet others staying the same. The memories you brought us, both good and bad, were some of the best times we'd ever had. and the day that god decided it was time for you to go, that was truly what we'd show through our tributes, gifts and utmost respect, for a man whom made a company once flawed so perfect. And although again you may be gone, your legacy will continue on and on In your heart you may have been a gamer, but to us you were a savior A Savior of childhood memories once lost, discarded and blown away, like fragments of dust. Yet one thing you'd never lost, in all of your years, was our trust as well as our tears, for a Man whom had helped preserve something we held so near, a company whose products helped fill our lives with cheer, So I write this poem to pay respect, to a man whom helped make my life that bit more perfect. Here's to you, Satoru Iwata, You may be gone no matter what we say, but I just wanted to get this out, A few weeks before the day, the day one of our idols went away. You left via a rainbow in the sky, and although we'd all sat down and cried, we truly knew why. It was the final course, the final match, the final trial, and it had been coming for quite a little while, We thank you for everything you've done, for the games you made were truly fun, And although your time here may be done, to us you are still, and shall remain number one. Thank you for everything, you wonderful man, you did everything that you knew you truly can. Rest easy knowing that we all truly care, even if the fact is that you're no longer there. Thank you, We do understand. RIP Satoru Iwata, 1959-2015.

This was the man who made such classics like Earthbound on the SNES, Balloon Trip on the NES, to helping create all the early Pokémon and Kirby games. Which eventually lead to him having a hand in all the major Nintendo franchises; such as Mario, Legend of Zelda, and Animal Crossing. He helped push the idea of the DS, and it was because of him we even got the Wii. When the Wii U was failing; instead of laying off others and cutting wages; Iwata cut from his own pay check, something that is rare to see from a boss let alone a CEO. From the NES and Game Boy, all the way to the Wii U and 3DS; Iwata has had a huge impact in gaming. He's been a part of my childhood, as well as the childhood of others; and for that I thank him for his hard work, and all the heart and soul he put into putting a smile on someone else's face. He knew that games aren't about the best graphics and having the most powerful consoles, but instead its about the memories that we make through games, and the fun that we have through them with friends and family that really matter. In the end its about the memories we can share, and Iwata gave us just that. Rest in peace Mr. Iwata, you'll be dearly missed. Thank you for everything you did.

He is not a martyr, he was just a guy that loved his job so much and did it so well that eventually draw praise from the people around him and paved the way for him to develop further into his job so he could prove himself worthy of higher responsibilities. He didn't do it for the praise, he didn't need it but he sure got many that were rightfully deserved. Praise is just a result, not the objective. He sure finished succesfully many of his objectives in life, and they sure were fullfilling for him. Praise and recognition are just the possible consequences.

Today I can play Kirby's dreamland and revive those happy days, a link with my young self that has made me a happier person. Today a remember this man. Thanks, for the joy and the memories. Rest in peace Mr. Iwata

Why I'm crying, he was a ceo of a multinational company, it could be because he was Human in his job, in his exposure in directs, in his paycuts, in putting the whole kanto inside Pokémon gold/silver. Iwata-san, you where the goat of CEOs.

I remember when I first got the Wii. My family played Wii sports and other various titles. We had so much fun that we played it almost everyday. We would invite family over to join us as well. Soon, most of our family had a Wii. We thought it was revolutionary, just like its code name. I’ll never forget those moments and most importantly. I will never forget you Iwata.

Even though this video came out 6 years ago, and I'm a bit late to reply. I cried just a bit as to how much of a wonderful tribute honoring Mr. Iwata this was. I felt bad I didn't comment before because I had school to do, after hearing his passing. But I decided to rewatch this just for old-time sake, to relive old memories in the Directs I've watched him in. Rest In Peace to this Legend. 🙏😔
Regardless how old Nintendo gets, i will never forget the company and the amazing people who we're there for so long. The dedication and inspiration from people like Mr.Iwata will always be with me, he was my childhood. Creating games and game consoles, not money grabbing subscription greed machines...

It's 2016, and I still miss him, he's like an uncle you can relate, laugh, and have fun together with Video games. An Uncle who would make up his mistakes and be proud of it. An Uncle who would keep a smile and tears on your face. A smile of Joy, but tears of sadness as Life makes time short.

A man who committed his life bringing joy to others through his passion, gaming. A man who was met with contempt and disdain in his final days because 2015’s Nintendo E3 press conference was not up to everyone’s standards. A man who halved his salary so others would not get fired. In spite of all that, a man who worked tirelessly from his hospital bed as the lead developer on the switch while battling a terminal illness. A man, who like all of us here, is a gamer at heart. A man who stayed true to his passions and mission until the very end. The Nintendo Switch is a gaming marvel. Loved by billions around the world. It truly is one of gaming’s greatest golden eggs. It’s great, people truly love it. But it’s not only an amazing gaming console that will stand resilient against the test of time for generations as many of your other great works have. It’s another honest and undeniable testimony of your unwavering faith in Nintendo and gaming. Thank you so much Satoru-San. Thank you for not giving up hope when the majority of us did. The gaming world, no, the world truly lost a gem with your passing. I hope you are looking down on us in joy at how much it has brought the gaming world. Rest In Peace.

The death of Satoru Iwata shook many and his loss was felt in the hearts of gamers around the world. seeing this tribute made me tear up. Iwata was a great man who is the reason that Nintendo and gaming itself is the way it is today. he was an extraordinary man with many accomplishments but in the end he cared about us. he cared about gamers around the world and he cared about the content that was released from nintendo. he wasn't just in it for the profit. He wanted to create content that would make millions smile and feel joy. and he did just that. because he knew games were suppose to be one thing. Fun. and the reason he understood this so well was because he wasn't just a corporal president or just a programmer. he was more than that. just like he said himself. in his heart, he was a gamer. like us all. May you rest in peace Satoru Iwata. we will all miss you.

Truly one of the few minds in the gaming industry who tried and succeeded at innovating how people see gaming. For a time there, everyone had a Wii at home. Everyone knows about the Nintendo DS. Minds like Iwata's don't come often, and he'll always be missed because of it.

Satoru Iwata was the man who made my childhood and life so happy, I remember when my brother lent me his gameboy because I wanted to play the game that he was playing, I never knew that the game he was playing was the game that would change my life. Pokemon, after years and years of playing Pokemon Ruby all over again, the first ever Nintendo DS was released and a package came to our house from canada from our relatives and that was the start of me loving Pokemon more. So I salute to Mr. Satoru Iwata may he Rest In Peace. He is now with his fellow great people...

Mr. Iwata was a man that changed the way we looked at video games. He loved his work and loved the people he worked with. He was never someone in it for the money, he wanted people to have fun, and to get everyone involved. He sought to do what other people in the industry said was impossible and succeeded. A pillar of the gaming industry, a perpetual legend; He was a dreamer, an innovator and of course, a Gamer. Rest in peace knowing that the Switch was your biggest hit. Thank you for making our childhoods something memorable.
