Yet again another great scene analogy. The concept you described in Millennium Actress, where she tells her story through multiple movie shots. IS something that is still currently used today in most drama or action tv shows. There was a episode of Walker texas Ranger that used that concept in telling of his past. Great work on this one. Brought back fond memories of watching Kons work.

You honestly didn't get near as many likes for this as you deserve. You analyzed and packaged this exceptionally well. Thank you.

To me Satoshi Kon was a great storyteller who imbibed a great narration in his films and that what made him stand on the zenith of Japanese Animation.

Anybody that speaks of Kon Satoshi in a positive light gets a thumbs up from me, he is and remains my favorite., an interesting side note is that Madonna used perfect blue as a film backdrop in one of her worlds tours.

Absolutely amazing video, articulating your thought was amazing , it is literally a sin that this did not blow up.

Wow! Great essay! Thank you for this. I recently re-watched (after many years) Tokyo Godfathers -- the closest thing to a conventional Hollywood narrative that Kon directed (AFAIK). A masterpiece of movie making (and anime, I would suggest). You used the term "bitter-sweet" in your essay, but I would suggest that what separates Kon's work from his contemporaries is the absence of sentimentality, and yet no fear of sentiment. Sentimentality is a trap that most film makers can't resist -- Shinkai and Hosoda being two current examples. Kon has always left me emotionally drained, without feeling like I'd been conned. Thanks again.

Hi! I wanted to ask you if you know a link to read "Lucid Dreams, Falsa Awakenings: Figures of the fan in SK from Kerin Ogg :) I'm doing my thesis about Kon and all material is great! (Such as your video!)

Paulina Dana Hi Paulina. Thank you for watching my video. It'd be an honour to be cited in a thesis. As for the Lucid Dreaming article, I urge you to check with your school's library as it should be available to access through their databases.

Sure thing. Depending on which citation style you use (e.g MLA), you can credit me as "The Writer Sits in the Back." You may also use my real name "William Moo" as well. Hope you can also subscribe as I'll be putting out more videos like this in the future and keep tabs on all my social media stuff. :)

Jesus fucking Christ who watches Kon films dubbed? The man controlled every single aspect of his movies, down to the voice acting. The lip syncing is really good in the original language, as well. Watching any of them dubbed is an egregious mistake
