The concept behind _Saturday Night Live_ isn't inherently bad. It's just executed poorly. One of the biggest problems I see with their approach is related to something Charlie touches on: they don't seem to write for a primary audience. By not doing so, they confuse the audience they do have. Commenting on current things that young people are doing may _resonate_ with older people but specifying the trends and events going on will make them unable to latch onto it since they aren't a part of that generation. As for younger viewers, the references used may not always register with them because they were written by and for people who came before their time. The other big issues I noticed are their attempts to satirize and explain current things. Once you explain a joke, the joke isn't funny anymore. Once something reaches mainstream media, people don't want anything to do with it. These don't work. The show is essentially the product of a group of out-of-touch writers trying to be like Voltaire and failing to the highest degree.
@ashblossomandjoyoussprung.9917 Жыл бұрын
The main issue with SNL is that it's supposed to be the jumping-off point for exciting new actors. Jim Carrey comes in, does his bit, then leaves to be a famous actor, same with John Belushi, Chevy Chase, and a bunch of great comedic actors. It becomes bad when it becomes just another comedy sketch show, where established actors demand millions to be on the show and celebrities regularly appear in sketches. They're supposed to give the next John Belushi or Chris Farley their big break, not give Elon Musk an ego boost.

They use warm up acts to to get the crowd going and record their laughter. An average taping session for the show is several hours. While they can't keep you there. They won't invite you back if you leave. The cast sometimes mingles with the crowd and they've even given out stuff sometimes. Also behind-the-scenes stuff can be better then what's shown. Either way. It keeps people in the seats. I was a regular in the seats of few shows when I lived in California. There are times when it does feel like you're being held hostage but depending on the show, you cam normally walk out with free stuff or stories to tell.

9 times out of 10 SNL skits are abysmal even back then but every once in a while there’s a golden nugget, they’re very few and far between. I think about the skits with the office potty and “Dick in a Box” more often than I’d like to admit… it’s shameful.

Might be unpopular, but Jimmy Fallon has completely overtaken SNL, and they regularly upload segments to the internet because Fallon isn't completely tonedeaf about the direction entertainment media is taking.
