Coach Painter needs to take responsibility fully for the loss. As all of us who have a job for living, we would have goals at work set by employers. Shooting was a problem all season. I don’t think the lack of confidence started v. FDU but it certainly peaked in that game. Confidence is a problem at Purdue, and I don’t pretend to have the answer but I do believe the problem is obvious. The lack of confidence also showed up in Purdue returning to turnover-ville again v. FDU. Timidity was the cancer that destroyed the team’s tournament hopes. They need to be far more aggressive.

I have often listened to Painter (especially on the CMP show) says things to the effect of "well have you ever coached a game in your life?" as if that's even a valid attack. I've watched thousands of games of basketball and I know when I see horrible fucking coaching decisions. I don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that when a rocket explodes on the launch pad, something was probably not right. When a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament loses to a #16.5 seed (basically D2 school) that responsibility is 100% on the coach especially when that #16 seed didn't actually play lights out (a la UMBC). Painter should resign. I can't believe these guys didn't even bring that up as an option when everyone is talking about it. My guess is that they're livelihood is tied to keeping the CMP narrative positive. I have to tell you though, I won't be supporting ostrich behavior for this channel anymore.

I have been a Purdue fan and a Painter apologist for a long time. But my patience with Painter is thinning out. He takes talented players and ruins them by making them the salves of his system. He learned that system from another mediocre coach - Gene Keady, who never won anything in March either. Last night's game was an absolute disgrace. The guys break the press, and when they get the ball in the front court and have a 3-on-2 advantage, they wait for the defense to set up instead of attacking the rim. A few quick baskets will discourage the other team from using the press on every made basket. What the hell the coach was doing? I watched the first half and refused to watch the second because I knew that we were beaten. The Notre Dame job is open. Matt, please do us a favor, take that job.

Too bad Stefanovic didn't opt in for one more year as they needed a pure shooter. It was a killer they lost out on Nijel Pack to UM. He was exactly the type of player they needed, an athlete who could create their own shot when things broke down. Painter and his staff did an amazing job in overachieving with this team given the lack of talent. But watching him freeze up in that game and not make any adjustments, jack up threes when it's not their night instead of driving to the basket and try to at least draw a foul was inexcusable. I wonder if their current assistants aren't capable for pushing for adjustments when Painter is stuck like that. Absolutely brutal end but writing on the wall was they weren't going to go far anyway.

If Painter wants the build a program that draws recruits (or any future Purdue coach going forward), you simply CANT run a decades old, out dated "feed the post" system anymore.
