But it can also be comforting; megacorporations aren't prejudiced, they'll bring attention to a good cause because you'll give them money for it. If it doesn't feel exploitative it only means their PR firm is doing a good job.

This is true. Trump being president is the best thing that could have happened to SNL. You could argue that all non-political sketches were very weak last night... The political climate is so comical at the moment you don't really have to put that much effort into the writing as it's already hilarious. i think you missed the part where the companies are USING these issues that they don't care about to try to stay relevant and to sell a completely unrelated product, thats pretty disgusting to use an issue and to take a side just because they think that that will be a popular side and make them some money. it wasn't about the issues themselves. there are plenty of real life ads which are just confusing, weird, and taking advantage in this way. ..i think snl did a good job on the skit

in Australia we have a TV show called "Gruen" about advertising, and in a regular segment, real ad agencies pitch for crazy ideas set by the show. But they also actually MAKE the ads. It's freaking amazing. It's like high school debating with sick CGI. Search "Gruen The Pitch".
