No one realizes why this is so funny. Because the characters they are playing are afraid because they could get killed if they even touch that paper with that marker. But also the actual cast took a chance. I mean it was live, and even if one of them stumbled, or sneezed, and dropped the marker, or bumped into that canvas in any way that left a mark, their actual real life lives might have been in danger. I mean look up how they went after people who did that before. This is what makes this sketch truly insane and hilarious. Well written. Because they went right up to that dangerous line over and over again, being careful not to cross it. I would have made sure the marker was completely dry and a dud before they started. If I had to lacquer it. Like a loaded pistol between that and that canvas.

Taran Killam was such a force. I miss him on SNL!

Bobby Moynihan is clearly influenced by Lou Costello. When he first gets the subject to draw, his facial expressions come straight from the 1940s-era Lou. Its a high compliment.

You see, the joke is, there is a terrorist group targeting people who draw or portray The Prophet Mohammad. Hence the, "oh sweet lord they're comin for meeeeee". So it's not about the difficulty of it. They didn't want to die.

Would it have been funny if they had drawn him?

@Zain Iftikhar If the picture they had drawn on the show had been respectful, would that have been offensive?
@patrickd86545 жыл бұрын
@Zain Iftikhar First, thank you for your thoughtful reply. I would say that people will draw disrespectful pictures of Muhammad (or Jesus, Budha, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, etc.) regardless of what I do. If I draw a respectful picture, I am not responsible for the disrespectful pictures. Moreover, you are fully within your rights not to like pictures of Muhammad, but I am still within my rights to draw them. Now that I know you don't like them, it would be extremely disrespectful toward you for me to draw them and email them to you, and I would never do that. On the other hand, were I to draw them and post them on my personal website or KZbin channel or whatever, I have not treated you or anyone else with disrespect. If you don't like my media content, you are free not to look at it. Thanks for reading this.
