I tried this about 20 years ago and had the same reaction. It's too unpolished to stand with the best shooters on the Saturn. But I might need to revisit it for the soundtrack. Thanks for the video.

Totally agree about the shitty graphics it looks very similar to Rastan Saga 2 but without the colours. I think this was a 90's phenomenon of graphics downgrades as Atari Games went from the glorius art of 720, APB and Toobin to the stomach churning thunder jaws. I'm still battling away on viper phase 1 so i'd like to see your thoughts on that one. Personally, i can't get any further than level 3 even though i've sunk 20 hours + into it.

thinking about the evolution of games in the 70's and 80's, they started black and white, then we got colour, so i think companies went colour mad and made everything super saturated. by the time the 90's rolled around to make your game stand out you had to do something else, i think that's why we got digitised sprites and grim colour choices - it was different to what came before (but not as nice!) when we got actual textured 3d arcade games it sort of did the same thing - Daytona and Ridge Racer were super saturated, then things got a more muted palette as the decade went on. Sega definitely kept the vibrant look where it could (Dreamcast had some super colourful games) but thats not the direction the mainstream went in. It's nice to see the resurgence of colour in games through indie titles in the last few years.

@retrospiritsgaiden yeh that sounds about right though I suspect a lot of people like grey games rather than the bright blue skies that sega produced. This may have something to do with the fact I can't see wtf is coming in these ' grey" games

@@MrDirkles maybe all the 'cool' 'leet' players back in the day thought colours were for kids? don't know but i do seem to remember some sort of snobbery, possibly to this day from certain demographics, that anything with chromatic range is for people under 5 years old.
