There is a feature in both versions of Daytona 2 that has a "live feed" of the race you are racing on. It can only be accessed via linking two arcade machines and having one of them set to "live". The new DAYTONA Championship USA they made is an absolute disgrace and an insult to the DAYTONA USA series and isn't a true sequel to the first game like this one is. It's one of the things I remember the most. I was barely able to keep my car straight. Everytime you get bumped from the side in the beginner course the steering wheel goes nuts. But as an older man now I really appreciate the work they have done. When I re-explored the game with my own force feedback wheel on an emulator, it's amazing how the wheel reacts when you go into a slide and it's so satisfying when you fight the wheel to stay in the slide and then you countersteer to exit the slide.

There would have been no way it could have got to the N64. Sega was still competing with their Saturn and Dreamcast console against Nintendo. Also the Saturn cant handle this much polygons I think. Even if they did they would have to do it like the Saturn port of Daytona USA. All the other options were possible though. I honestly think why the game could not get any ports because the Model 3 was way to powerful to the point current-gen consoles of that time couldn't handle their extreme polygon count.

Differences between Battle On The Edge vs Power Edition: The Beginner stage's environment is different between versions. In Battle On The Edge, the track was situated inside the biodome arena full of waterfalls, forests and flower field known as the Forest Island Speedway or Forest Dome Speedway. In Power Edition, it was changed into an open air NASCAR oval track known as the Sega International Speedway. The Easy Level Car or the Chevrolet Monte Carlo's paint job or brand sponsorship was changed. In Battle On The Edge, it was the Chums Sugarless Gums and it has Parrot Jellybeans fictional product placements on the car. In Power Edition, it was changed into JC Eagle with the word Tactics on the hood. The Sega Am2 logo appears on the attract mode in Power Edition. The flame lighting on both title screen and the loading screen are different in between versions, In Battle On The Edge, it has orange flames. In Power Edition, it was changed into blue flames. The fonts between versions are different in terms of sizes especially on the words "Sega Presents The Heat is Back". The attract mode on both versions are different on between versions. In Battle On The Edge, it shows short video clips of all three driving on all of the three tracks and the words "Dangerous Over 200 MPH Battle" and "You Can Slingshot." In Power Edition, it added the cutscene on the player's crew team and only shows the entirety of the race such as clashing with another car and crashes. The Crew Chief speaks very often in Power Edition. The Hornet High Class Gallop Racing car is now available for free in Power Edition with the original Daytona USA physics retained. Unlike, in Battle On The Edge, you must entered the correct code in order to unlock it. The Challenge Mode was added in Power Edition. It's a race to the finish without breaks against the time limit where all of the three tracks are used. The commentary between the crew chief and a driver of the crashed car was added in Power Edition during the live camera mode.

The attention to detail on the cars is something that doesn't get talked about enough. Namely, I'm referring to the noses. In the first game, they were all 1990 Chevrolet Luminas, but in this game, they're clearly based on the actual cars that ran in the Winston Cup Series in 1997. The Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Ford Thunderbird, and Pontiac Grand Prix are easily recognizable. As for the Phantom car, I have no idea what this is supposed to be. The Internet Game Cars Database lists it as a Ford Thunderbird, but this looks NOTHING like a '97 Thunderbird.

Released in 1998, Sega AM2's only true sequel to Daytona USA used the more powerful Sega Model 3 board (Model 3 Step 2.1 in Battle on the Edge and Power Edition's case). Despite a handful of Model 3 arcade games being ported to Dreamcast and Wii (with the exception of the Scud Race tech demo), Daytona USA 2 sadly wasn't one of them. It's a shame that Sega AM Ishoku (Convert) Team never got around porting Model 3 titles to modern consoles before scattering back to Sega's various internal development teams. The closest Daytona USA 2 got a console release was Power Edition's MIX/Challenge course appearing as a bonus track in the Xbox version of Sega AM2's 2003 racer OutRun 2, but even then the Japanese version had the bonus track closely resemble the arcade than the US release.

In NASCAR, it's illegal to have the cars drifting through turns.

Jiterdomer But Japanese people however, disobeyed this rule did this anyway. Technically speaking this game feels more american than Japanese.
@wormaheldharrier31226 жыл бұрын
Jiterdomer Then again, it’s most likely against the rules to host a NASCAR race inside a giant biosphere, a futuristic Sega Joypolis indoor amusement park and in the roads, parks, harbours, residential areas and skyscrapers of a emptied, but most likely populated, city.

Maybe that is why Nascar is niche now. Make the cars powerslidey and I swear that sport would become my religion.

Well, You will able to play it via "Like a Dragon : Gaiden" in game Arcade Machine. The name of the game changed from Daytona USA 2 to Sega Racing Classic 2 due to expired license contract of using "Daytona USA" name as the game title.

Would of looked good on the dreamcast or even a full restoration on the next gen consoles or even a steam release but idk?

Wait, what? Producer Nagoshi, who is now at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio made this game?
@papermunpapermun95585 жыл бұрын
Yes, he came up with the idea for DUSA 1 when he was in USA watching a nascar race. He poured all the passion and enthusiasm of the 90s into this masterpiece. If I could worship an artist, he is the artist I would worship.

Does this car completely mirror the same driving physics in the original Daytona USA?
@SaturnMemories6 жыл бұрын
I've never played Power Edition in arcades (only BOTE), so I can't say with 100% certainty, but once you tweak certain settings in the Supermodel config file, it seems more or less the same. Gear drifting is definitely identical though. 4-1-3-4 or 4-2-4 work great through most turns.
@amaulana0906 жыл бұрын
Saturn Memories Oh, whoops I didn't specify the car I meant only the Hornet Classic. But yeah. I think you guessed the car right. Thanks, anyway!
