That was beyond a sample. I can understand using a song as a base, but when an artist just puts different lyrics on top someone else’s beat, there can be no complaints about paying up.

But morally I would’ve did a nicer split with the newer artists ya know. True a person can rightfully take what’s technically owed to them lending a sample & song but doesn’t mean morally we should be greedy. That punk ass white boy has around 400 million dollars, he wasn’t hurting for no money at all, and Puff legally sampled it, whereas Juicewrld and his producer stole the sample. I was tryna give sting benefit of the doubt, but he seems like a pretty greedy money hungry dude anyways.

It's folklore that Sting gets ALL the publishing money from The Police songs.... Journalist Vic Garbarini conducted an interview in 2000 with the Police & subsequently made the following statement after the interview to clear up some wordplay between Sting, Andy & Stewart regarding the ''I'll Be Missing You'' song: “The basic premise that Sting gets all the royalties/publishing for Police songs is simply not true. Early on it became apparent that Andy and Stewart’s unique contributions to Stings songs, really gave them a whole other dimension. So Sting agreed to give each of his bandmates 15% of royalties each, on all his songs.”
