As a HUGE Saucony fan, I got these the day they released in the UK. Such a lovely, comfortable update to the 11 BUT, and its a HUGE BUT, they only lasted 120miles (6 outings) before i had a huge hole in the upper and 3 other spots getting ready to become holes.

Hey Seth, best documentary I've ever watched is 'Senna', about one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers to ever live, Ayrton Senna. He was a 3-time world champion and ruthless on the track, but was a thoughtful, introspective and passionate person. I think you'd really love it. There are some great clips of Senna on YT doing his training routine in Brazil, running everyday on the beaches, pretty awesome stuff. I'm a huge admirer of him. Cheers!

Not sure if it was the best ever but certainly best in a while, social dilemma, a really fascinating insight how social media gets you..... maybe not exactly what you want to hear if social media is your thing but important none the less. QD-Barkley Marahons. As a running nerd, I was engaged and enthralled from beginning to end. Both the origin story and the race itself are gripping. Highly recommended if you are at all interested in trail running or slightly “looney” content. 10/10 would recommend.

Tried the 11 and the 12 side by side just yesterday at my local running store since they had both in stock. Seems they've narrowed the landing base, made the lugs a little smaller, and stripped down the upper. The difference was amazing.

This is my go-to trail shoe. Here in the Pennsylvania mountains ⛰️ with the types of runs I go on, this is it. Joyful trail running. You nailed this review. 3 to 10 miles of rocky, hilly, muddy trails. For longer, easier trail runs I put on my Hoka Challenger. The Peregrine has proven to be a tank, in a good way. I'm still running in the Peregrine 10, and still few signs of wear despite all of the rocks and mud. I'm excited for this update too.

QD: Running-related, I'm a fan of Where Dreams Go to Die, as well as The Runner, which tells the story of David Horton's PCT record setting run. Non-running-related, Senna might be my favorite movie of all time. Fantastic telling of Ayrton Senna's life and F1 career.

Thanks for this excellent review. I purchased the Peregrine12 specifically for running on snow that’s not too deep or messy. I’ve tested it on some steep inclines and can corroborate that the grip is terrific. Yes, the midsole is on the firmer side but I’m used to that in most of my other shoes. I ran in a borrowed pair of Hoka SG4 and found them too spongy for me; I like the proprioception of some ground feel and wouldn’t use these on hard surfaces. Runners World also listed it as one of the best shoes for running on snow. I’ll also enjoy it for hiking and light trail running. I plan to do a 10 mi run on a snow-covered trail today or tomorrow. I have two runs on my pair now and they are really nice. Yes, a little too firm for my tastes, but I think that's ok for trail running since you're not on pavement. The shoe (tread) is a little overkill for most of the terrain I will use it on, but the grip is amazing.

Thanks for the review. I have been fairly minimalist in the last 12 to 14 years, so while I don't feel that it is obligatorily a short distance shoe due to lack of cushioning, I agree with you and I'd rather choose this shoe for aggressive terrain, sky running, scrambling, very rocky steep terrain running and so on. For slightly shorter distances up to Marathon. Mud is not one of these options though. For real mud you need deep lugs. There is the Peregrine ST. I also felt that the shoe has very rigid built for security and bomb-proofness. That is very noticable in the heel. The heel counter is thin and substantial and built from a hard plastic instead of the usual treated paper, like in the old days. For somebody really up on the forefoot, or someone with heel-spurs this might be a big issue. I am not done with my review yet, still testing the shoe. I am really looking forward to some real high altitude mountain events with the shoe this summer.

A great idea for an episode would be to test which shoes durometer rating goes up the most from room temperature to a given freezing temperature. Leave one shoe inside and one outside overnight for a bunch of shoes you consider for winter running then take the readings.

I run in Utah on mostly dry, rocky, steep, technical trails, and the Peregrine 10s were good for me but wore out the lugs on the outsole by around 350 miles. Cushioning still alright (not amazing) and upper is just fine. I currently run in Topo Ultraventure Pro and love the toe box shape and cushioning, but there are some quality concerns with these that I'm not thrilled about. Seth have you reviewed any Topo Athletic trail shoes?

Ran in many versions from the v1 through v10. (there was no v9). Was my favorite shoe up to v8, sometimes bought 2 pairs at a time when on sale. The v10 was a major redesign and was a huge step backwards. Lost it's trail feel, felt slugish, awful upper. Relegated to wearing for yard work, rather than running. Checked out the v11 and it wasn't much better. Will check out the v12 but the upper doesn't look like it's been corrected.

Qod, "Holy grail in America". Fascinating story tracking numerous archeological discoveries from Minnesota to New England and Nova Scotia, which appear to be connected. Forensic geologist Scott Walter does a the analysis of numerous artifacts and does a great job of separating false items from the genuine ones.

Weight, weight, weight. Stop. Just cause you drop weight doesn’t mean the shoe is great. Weight plays a vital role but I feel like when a shoe drops weight all the other factors of the shoe get overlooked, good or bad. I love my peregrines…the 10 that is. I have 4 pairs of the peregrine 10. The 11 got a little more narrow. The 12 looks and feels like they put lugs on the kinvara. I’ll likely avoid unless they release better colors and I can get it for closer to $100.
