I visited Saundersfoot on a family holiday in 1971. Fifty years later I visited again. Obviously, certain aspects have changed in half a century but the essential character has not. Saundersfoot is a wonderful, friendly and welcoming place.

We visited Saundersfoot when holidaying in Tenby in 'THE SUMMER OF 76' I was 14 at the time but remembering Brechfa Forest ablaze akin to a volcano eruption including all surrounding areas. A really terrifying long 6hr journey home

SAUNDERSFOOT In the 19th century, Saundersfoot was established as a port for exporting high quality anthracite coal mined from six local pits at Kilgetty and Stepaside. The coal wagons were brought down the 2ft gauge Saundersfoot railway to a purpose built harbour, until the outbreak of the Second World War when the last of the mines closed. The harbour was built between 1829 and 1834 at a cost of £7,000. By 1845 up to 20,000 tons were exported from one colliery alone. The tunnels in the cliff path to the East of Saundersfoot were built to carry the railway servicing the trade. The street now called 'The Strand', was called 'Railway Street' and the Barbecue Restaurant was originally the colliery offices. Today there is very little evidence of this industrial heritage and the village lies in a lovely sheltered valley, overlooked from the north by Hean Castle.

I just got back from Wales ! Definitely visit Wales !!! People are so ~friendly & kind there !! Saundersfoot was gorgeous 😍 Especially my late soulmate's & my fave ,Glen beach !! There are small waterfalls there ,not even many locals know them !! If you'll ever visit there ,visit The old chemist inn ,it's a pub/ restaurant/ inn .You can go on to the beach directly from the pub ,infact ,that's the only pub can let you do that in Pembrokeshire !! Also,I highly recommend shoreline cafe !! Those two are places you get 180 °of Saundersfoot beach view from & their foods are reasonably priced/ delicious 😋 The ice cream at the shoreline, I had a white chocolate flavour ,it was incredible !!! They had the best carrot cake there as well as the best white chocolate cake !!! The owner & kids working there were super nice !! Both stop serving meals early ( like 3 & 4 pm ) & close early !! Wales got lots of hilly roads & stony roads ,so it's tough on your knees & feet !! So,prepare for those !! Lol. Also,do travel light for the reason !! I was gonna, but changed my mind at the last minute( as I got 2 free checked bag deal with my tickets ! ) ,I SHOULDN'T HAD !! LOL. Wales's got lots to offer !!! Saundersfoot, Wales ,Cardiff, Newport ( I highly recommend cafe at the Ridgeway & St.Julians Inn ,the pub with the best views !!! Both St.julian's Inn/ The Old Chemist inn are !!! Breathtaking !!! ) Tenby ,Swansea ,Aberystwyth, Wye area , Llangollen. Snowdonia ! Too many !! Hoping you'll get to visit Wales someday soon !!! 👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️🏴💞

Been a while since I’ve been there, was looking at moving back to Pembrokeshire, noticed the garden in the harbour has gone and now those retail units. A misspent youth at a certain nightclub in Penally will always have a place in my ❤ Has Openreach put fibre in the area yet? Would make a nice work from home location.

It's a very attractive place 👍. How do the people get into the boat dry at high tide ? I don't see webs ?
@welsh-cymru15882 жыл бұрын
Lpeople usually wait until the water coming in with the tide is up to the ankles they climb onboard wearing wellies to keep their feet dry , wait a while on the boats until the tide is in more before setting sail
