Fun fact: these are "Ujaani" and "Vatiyali" songs. Ujan means the upstream or the upper side of a river. And "Vati" means the downward stream or downside of the river. These songs were usually sung by the sailors at night while they were rowing their cargo boats. They used to carry goods from one bazaar or Haat to another at a great distance at night by rowing boats. They sang these songs to keep themselves awake on long journeys and keep their spirit up at night. You can tell which song is which by the tempo and the pitch of the song. Ujaani songs are high tempo and pitched as it required more energy to row the boats. Vatiyali songs are soft tempo and low pitched as the rowers required less energy to row the board down the stream. These songs are highly metaphysical and metaphorical. And their lyrics are rich in content and detailed. The song at the beginning is a Vatiyali and the second one is Ujaani.

Our bangla language has many dialects in different regions of bangla. The songs are different by regions as well. This song is a northern bangali song. The small boat drivers sing these songs while driving. These songs developed by the boat drivers. That's why it’s a folk song. Most of the bangali folk songs' origins are Bangladesh.

এই গানগুলো শুধু শোনার না ফিল করারও। শিল্পীর কন্ঠ গাওনটার সাথে যায় কিন্তু ইন্সট্রুমেন্টগুলোর বিশাল দায়িত্ব রয়েছে শ্রোতাকে মাটির স্বাদ দিতে যা আশানুরূপ পাইনি। সহজ সরল নদীর মাঝি হয়ে মাঝ নদীতে এই গানগুলো গেয়ে গেয়ে বাইয়া যাচ্ছি ভাবতেই অন্যরকম লাগে।
