I remember hooking up all of the portable lights on a 60K generator in the Marines. Since I was the first to put it under a full load chunks of build up were spewing out of the exhaust. 60,000 watts in an area smaller than a baseball diamond all pointed straight up. I was in a bowl just after sunset and it lit up everything. The marine layer was in and the glow in the sky was amazing. Siiiiigh

this engine is mainly used for tanks...a locomotive engine,or a generator is 3 to 6 time larger...as said stakeee.

Actually, they were standard equipment in Fiat Pandas and Subaru Brumbys.

I agree completely, the technology today allows us to get more power out of smaller engines while using less fuel. But I still love those old mechanical diesels. They are unstoppable lol. We had an old Detroit 3-71 that had a major failure, the whole engine was toast. They couldnt shut it down because it started to run off of its own oil. They let it blow because it was in a runaway condition. Awesome stuff! lol

@MrShawn30515 жыл бұрын
@mohamadalikazi- Not in the least. Were you saying a 3 liter engine with 600hp should be used in an industrial application? Im sure you were not. My point was simply that while you can achieve significant power from a much smaller engine, they are for two totally different applications. That engine can sustain a 100% duty cycle @ full output for a LONG time with only routine maintenance.

where can u fit that

No, a locomotive engine is much much larger than this, this is just a generator.

yup, were i did my work experience they had 2 twin turbo V16 diesels from submarines rated at 4000HP each just deppends wt you want from an engine tht saurer engine could be used for anything u wanted it for
@Aydosh199116 жыл бұрын
Unless I am missing the point what is special about this, it is a Diesel engine and generator. If it was running on chip fat, water or some other fuel then it might be interesting.

Hah in my vocational school we have a detroit 8-92 and that thing ran away one day and rattled the engine stand all the way to the back corner of the shop!! It takes like 3 people in case it runs away to cut fuel lines and to hook up the air shut off!
@TheCottonTop15 жыл бұрын
Yeah no turbo. They could make the same power with half the cylinder if it was turbocharged.

This engine is NOT 2500 Hp. Not even close. If you could gain 300% more power from 2 turbos, every engine would have two turbos. So whoever told you that, is pulling your leg, big time.
@CreRay7 жыл бұрын
Not commenting on this engine here, but in general: Very efficient non-turbo diesel engine: ~70Nm/liter Powerful twin turbo current day diesel engine: ~230-245Nm/liter ..so a ~250% gain IS possible, and even more. However, as the engine must be able to take the added power (bearings, pistons, head etc), it's not just a matter of adding turbo's!
