Based solely on first-round placement. I would feel comfortable with any of the rounds. You get one shot and it's going to be a cold bore. Seeing that all the rounds performed very well on the first shot, all of them would be a fine choice. Your deer won't know the difference. Great Video WTW!!!

I said it before Hootie-man, gitchu one of those outdoor canopies then your ammo, your rifle, and you will all be in the shade. That is a special rifle, all different ammo and the point of impact hardly moved. Hang on to that one!

Love me a .308 cal. Early ‘70s dad graduated me from an 03A3 30-06 cal. to a brand new Parker-Hale .308 cal. Winchester It shot tight groups with 180 gr. reloads. I enjoy your videos! Thank you! 👍👊🏻

I bought a battery-powered air mattress inflator, trimmed the barrel & found a straw that fits the barrel of .22-250's. It works great out in the field, drastically cutting barrel cooling times. When I don't have my pump, simply propping my rifle up (in the shade) for a drawing effect really helps as well. I'm just say"n. Cooling time, in the summer heat...heck, even in winter's cold, gets old fast. Yet another great video - thank you!👍

Ron Sponer posits you must clean your barrel before using copper ammo if you have used regular ammo. Could tighten up that group even more.

He doesn't say you MUST, he admits he doesn't know why but typically coppers in his experience don't shoot as well after shooting traditional guilded

Backfire repeated Ron's results too. I am a huge fan of Barnes bullets. J shoot their 175LRX in my Savage .308. I have now harvested mule deer, 5x5 elk, cougar and black bear with 127LRX in 6.5cm. The elk and bear dropped in their tracks. The others went less than 30 yards.

Thank for the video man. I may have to pick one of those rifles up and that ones in my favorite cartridge. As far as what bullets I would use hunting. I would pick the copper load. I switched to all copper bullets for all my primary hunting ammo that I load a couple years ago and to me the copper bullets I use (hammers and Barnes) seem to put animals down faster and not waisted meat. Thanks again man keep up the good work God bless you

I have a Howa 1500 in 308. My pet load uses a 165gr Hdy BTSP, Varget powder, for a .5" average at 100yds. That turned out to be the best, testing all sorts of 150 and 165gr bullets. That particular gun likes that bullet / powder combo. I'd have to go look up the load data sheet, but it was not a fast mover, more middle of the velocity rage if I recall. That said, that gun/ammo combo is my visitor gun at the ranch. That rifle of yours will shoot.

May I suggest that you get a portable sun shade, the kind that is square and pops up. Get them for under $100 @ W.M. That way you, the rifle, the ammo, and the whole shebang could be in the shade and comfortable.

I wanted to give you my take on 165gr. I have a Remington Model 30 Express in 30-06. Now, this is an old army rifle that my grandfather gave me when I turned 16. It is a 1917 Enfield action with the ears milled off. A 1906 Springfield barrel. An old army stock cut down into a sporter. Weighs in at 9.6 lbs. I shoot Sierra 165gr. BTSP in front of 47.0gr of IMR 4064, either Remington 9 1/2 or Win LR primers. In the old military brass. Which now have roughly 10 or 11 loadings. Brass is cleaned in media tumbler, and Necks pushed back .0025 then seated to 3.700 I average .500 to .625 groups, depending on temperature and humidity. Try working up a hand load with 165gr. You'll like them. Jeffrey D

9:22 Bro I'm going to keep saying this... you mess up your groups (Last shot) by breaking shooting position, especially when you get excited when there goes two into one hole. Believe me, it really makes a difference trying to keep the exact shooting position. Love your content either way!

WTW, I got to go on a rant. When I was young (70's & 80's) you had your choice of Rem 700, Ruger 77, Win 70 & Weatherby if you had the cabbage. Those rifles were offered in like a dozen calibers short, long, magnum. These a-holes now want to offer .308, 6.5 CM & maybe 223 and that's it. WTF? Got a 223 and don't want the other two. We're screwed on unique calibers.
@williamgaines97844 ай бұрын
Browning, Colt/Sauer, Mannlicher, Mauser, Savage, & I think even Marlin had a bolt rifle in the 1970s. Rem had the 788 and the 600 series as well during those years and Winchester had the 670. One can still get a fairly broad range of cartridges, if one has the cabbage.😉

Hey, it may be more of a pain than it's worth, but it would be cool if you could setup a chronograph for these ammo tests. Even if you just took the average of the 3 shots. I know I personally don't have one and try to find the same bullet being shot out of the same model rifle for a velocity for my ballistic data.

Another great testing video. Sometimes it’s good to do some ammo testing to see what other ammo that gun might like or if it’s picky. Because you might not be able to find or get a certain ammo at the time you need or want it but you have backup options. I may have taken a mulligan on the 165s, just in case and put a 4th one on paper. All of those will definitely hunt, but for where you’re at in some thicker areas those 180s would be the choice. You have probably sold more Savages especially as of late and Ruger Americans 🇺🇸 than anyone else in the country lol 😆. I would love this gun in a left hand in either the 350 L, 400 L or 450 BM since I now live in Ohio. 😃🦌

150 grain and up for elk, moose and small bear. 180 grain for bison and medium bear. 150 or less for deer and pronghorns. .45-70 and bigger with 250 grain or heavier for the big bears. This is all assuming correct shot placement. And yes, I've heard the stories about the 95 pound woman with the .22 cal revolver and the Alaskan Brown bear. Grizzly Adams used to be one of my favorite sit-coms. You I trust.

Go buy a battery power air pump like for air beds, off the discharge side us a rubber gas line about a foot long, open bolt, put the rubber line just in the chamber and turn the pump on... 1 min later the barrel is ambient temp ready to go another group, cuts the cool down time drastically down
